mario odyssey :messenger_neutral:

Different tastes I guess, but mario were the most depressing, boring and repetitive game I have played in last 10-20 years. Just felt like life is slipping away from my body. Another friend that owns switch (only people I know that own them here) also said it were damn repetitive and lackluster levels.

I just find it really weird and interesting how the game can be praised but also feel so bad to some.

If any reviewer felt like me, I bet they would not have the guts to be honest and give it 1/5 starts

I thought Origins had a better open world tbh than Syndicate.
Despite what fans of the series will say I think Origins and Odyssey are the best games since Black Flag.

My beef with the AC series is that it has no identity.
The stealth elements are too poor to make them proper stealth games. The combat systems are too shallow to make good action games and the exploration/plot elements are too thin to make them good adventure games. They up being a mishmash of stealth, action, and adventure while being bad in all aspects. At least for me.
Origins/Odyssey fully embraced being action-RPG's.

I know there are huge fans of the series but I've always thought besides the gorgeous graphics (up until Origins) and high production values, AC was at best mediocre in every facet of game design.
Odyssey and Origins are decent, if not a bit generic ARPG's with some pretty cool elements and by far the best combat systems to date, which isn't saying much but eh.

Don't know if the gameplay in unity was better, the combat was atrocious in both, but at least unity was a stunner graphically.
Both have shit gameplay but Unity's rendition of Paris is breathtaking and to me, it's still the most technically and artistically accomplished AC title.

To each their own but I'd agree with that rating. The game I've enjoyed the most on the Switch.

The game came out like 4 hours ago.
Oh come on! I bet you anything if Cyberpunk 2077 came out yesterday, it would be on that list.

Vanillaware made most crazy and yet most well constructed story and it fucking deserves recognition for that.

TLOU2 in the "Top Tier List", but doesn't place in the "Story Driven" category? ... what exactly is top tier about it, then?

Moving on - if the review scores for their games were a declaration of quality, shouldn't their "Games of the Generation" just be their highest reviewed games? Is that the criteria here? It doesn't look like it.

I loved II, but then felt it lost its way until a more core experience in Syndicate albeit with RPG stuff. It's become an aRPG now though, you're right. Even in Valhalla it seems to have gone a bit further. I feel the raids and spartan battles in Odyssey are like something from Shadow of Mordor. The assassinations in Valhalla so far look like the bodies drop quicker than in Skyrim as well. Whereas in Odyssey Alexios's idea of an assassination was to run out in the open, do an elaborate evisceration , dance around then run back into cover. Was like fucking Ellie in TLOU I at times - except they saw you and alerted the entire region.

Top tier

Read Dead Redemption 2?? The biggest disappointment since that Bond game that followed Goldeneye 64??

What kind of fuckery is that 😂

I was trying to make you feel better.

Good top tier, but it's missing Mankind Divided. Prague is the best hub I've ever experienced.

The Top Tier seems like they tried too hard to be accommodating. 3 damn open world games...I'm sure they could've found other worthy titles.

Why is GAF even discussing these ridiculous shitlists... every single user on this forum can come up with better / more interesting lists.

Almost as if there is no such thing as an objective best games list and it all comes down to personal taste.

Though I think they list a lot of good games there and while I don't agree with everything there might be some weird categories going on, but it really isn't that bad.

I mean these guys scored an 8,5 for the absolute trash that is ufc 4, not surprised about some of their ridicolous choices...

I feel like "lists" are articles where you can get a lot of clicks for very low effort (I mean, a randomly generated list is as "valuable" as any other) when your company has a bit of downtime.

One of the better lists I see. Don't agree with EVERYTHING but top tier definitely checks out.

Why is Bloodborne in relentless action though...

Yeah, KC: Deliverance was a surprise hit for me and it should've been discussed more by the popular blogs like GameInformer, GiantBomb or Bloomberg but all the bloggers were more concerned that there weren't any black people in medieval Bohemia, so the game got labeled as "racist".

KCD and Disco Elysium were the absolute standout non-Nintendo games of the last few years for me - KCD gives you such a sense of freedom in a world that I really enjoyed inhabiting, with wonderful characters and the best combat in gaming. Nicking all the weapons from the weapon shop was fun too though I rather destroyed the local economy doing so.

It isn't a terrible list save for The Last Of Us II, switch that out with Sekiro I'd say.

I mean no mention of Sekiro at all is pretty damn lame, it was certainly one of the best games I played over the gen.

Okish list... I would prefer Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 to any of those games on the list.

The Last Of Us 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on the top tier must be a joke.

Why can't there be a winner and runners up in each category? We really do live in a sensitive age, don't we? It seems like people are scared to offend others in of fear backlash so they try to include everyone and everything as winners. Almost every outlets these days has multiple winners and tries to include as many categories as possible so they don't offend anyone. SMH.

It sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before.
I'm sure people have the same opinion about a game that is beloved to you, a game that probably sold less and reviewed worse than RDR2.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
BOTW is absolutely considered the best Nintendo had gone to a new format for the first time (more open world freedom, creation tools/weapons/skins etc.) Link is coming out the gates to fight Ganon if you want to, most complete Zelda in history.

Stopped reading at RDR2. Gameplay is too PS3 era for my modern sensibilities. Fuck Guarma as always.

As a huge KH Stan, while I loved 3, I don’t think it has a spot on a list like this, especially at JRPG.

Similarly, while I like Syndicate, I don’t think it deserves to be on this list, a better argument could probably be made for anything other than launch unity in the series.

Man Forza always gets shafted. I’m not big on racing games and I love the horizon games. Must suck being a dev that makes racers. No matter how great you make you’re game, it seems like it’ll never get the proper recognition.

ExKing

says GAF is a racist board but still wants to be a part of it...
Red Dead 2 has nothing to do in the top tier. Most overrated game of this gen.
