Said this in the other thread, but after all of this time and waiting, this cannot be what Microsoft leads with in terms of its first official look at next gen game footage. It’s fucking insane.

They must have something a lot better. Must have, surely? Why aren’t they putting any of it out? Is this really what they’re leading with?
It's safe to assume they had all their next-gen eggs in the Halo basket. Hence the baffling insistence on showing it when it wasn't ready.

i logged on to see this, wow.

Must be some die hard fans that want to play the game like that.
And the worse is coming.
here's motostorm on Ps3

And even worse here's PGR4 on the 360 (that game was awesome)

Why do some next gen games look worse than not even current gen games but previous gen games.

There was a rumour there's another Hellblade 2 trailer coming... However if that doesn't look as good as the original then Microsoft have real problems... And god knows when Hellblade 2 will be released.

Still too early to be concerned 🤷‍♂️ ... Tbh though PS5 could have similar issues to begin with for all we know 🤷‍♂️... But anyway still this isn't good to see.
I'm suprised Gears 5 isn't compatible yet 🙄

Lol, that tweet is pure FUD.

* Quick Resume didn't crash, State of Decay 2 just needed an update. This is always what happens on an Xbox. If a game needs an update it will go back to the homescreen and let you know.
* The biggest games aren't compatible? Please, they just haven't let people play them on this system for now... As if Halo MCC and Gears 5 won't be playable at launch on the XSX "pie_tears_joy:
* Not every game compatible like the PS5. First of all, all Xbox One games will be compatible, Microsoft said this already. Secondly, weren't there 10 games that aren't compatible on the PS5? Not that it matters because 10 games are negligible, but don't say Xbox BC isn't working correctly to then say PS5 is fully compatible.

The way this people conterpulate this data is funny and wrong on so many levels.

Why would you use reduction on CUs as the only factor in reducing size? GPU components are less than half of SoC in XSX. So naturally, 44% reduction in CUs will only lead to ~18-20% reduction in overall size.

Lets think of it a different way using what we currently know about XSX:

Die size: 360mm
GPU: 360*047 = 169.2mm (GPU was 47% of XSX die shot)
For simplification, I will be lumping other elements (CPU, IO, Caches into the remaining area) = 190.8mm

now since the poster used reduction of CUs are the main differentiator between PS5 and XSX, lets calculate each CU approx area using what we know about XSX:

Each CU= 160.2/56 = 2.8mm

we can now deduce PS5 die size:

(40CUs* 2.8mm) + 190.8 = 302.8mm

We have PS5 die at around 303mm which almost within rounding error or minor differences to the 308mm mentioned in the tweet.

So I expect PS5 caches to be similar to XSX. Or minor differences in the I/O block

Edit: The numbers I provided is purely as a response to that tweet, it doesn't take into consideration a lot of small details of chip design. So take that with huge grain of salt...its just me trying to explain that 44% reduction in CUs should leads to 44% decrease in die size.

  • Seems like you missed the part where they game quit to menu, she reopened, tried to load again and then was notified about the update. The first "crash" did not prompt for an update.
  • "They just haven't let people play them on this system for now" Like any actual Next-Gen games, right? It's all unicorns and fairies.
  • Your BC take is a fucking joke. assume a flat 4000 games. 10 games not being compatible makes for 99.75% back compatibility. Are you seriously arguing that this is not "fully" backwards compatible?
Who dropped you on your head when you were a toddler?

Why is it that Xbox's defense force needs to mention the PS5 every time something is broken?

What we know so far, according to multiple reports

  • It runs hot
  • at least one person seems to have told Dealer it has shut down due to heat implying both airflow and fw issues (fans didn't kick up)
  • crashes
  • not compatible with some of the biggest games
  • framerates are all over in both next gen showings (Dirt 5) and back compat (sekiro).
Why not report what it is? could be preview software, hardware, or it could be seriously messed up. The PS5 has nothing to do with the above.

Top of console where heat is supposed to come out gets hot, not really a problem.

I don't know how many consoles MS have given out, seems to be quite a few, every electronic device will have a failure rate, every single one. One console means nothing.

Incomplete system with incomplete software crashed, shocking.

MS are releasing games in batches, not all games may be white listed yet, the biggest games have their own patches so they wouldn't show the old version.

We've seen one frame time graph on Dirt 5, at 120fps which looked quite solid on unfinished code. Sekiro ran with no patch at mostly 60 with some drops, it ran really poorly on last gen in comparison. Not really a problem on an unpatched game, it's a lot better on Series X.

MS said that they intend all games without Kinect requirements to be compatible, but they never committed to have 100% compatibility of that subset at launch as the Verge article put it: “While Spencer doesn’t explicitly commit to every Xbox One game working on the Xbox Series X, it’s clear that the vast majority will, and the “intent” wording is there just in case there’s a rare exception.”. MS and Sony are committing to the same number of titles compatible more or less, but sure we are seeing some nice BC improvements on Xbox’s side.

You really are in denial. There are reports of consoles shutting down. This was confirmed by the biggest Phil Spencer shill out there, Dealer.

And less than 1 month away from release, I'm amazed the "software is still incomplete" excuse is being used.

Read my tears about xbox here --->
Remember what Series X was revealed with? Hellblade 2 in 2019.
Fanboys used the Hellblade 2 music vid as ammo against PlayStation by comparing it to early Godfall.

What the fuck happened? Im not an xbox guy but even I am disappointed by the total lack of impressive looking games.

this is just like fabricated hype. There are walls that lies can't pass.

If those problems are on retail units, then people will eat MS alive.

MS is just giving XSX to some part of the midia to promote it, nothing else.

As much as the quick resume function is a neat feature when it works, I wonder how much resources it consumes... I also wonder if Sony will use the same feature, as we've yet to see it in action. 🤷‍♂️
From what I recall the PS4 suspend and resume wasn't a feature until 2 years after the console launched.

Correct me if I'm wrong. 👍

Resistance? That tweet was pure FUD. I get that you can be critical about them, but if you start lying that's not really criticising, now is it?

i think its a fantastic feature but surely its got to be a standard for both consoles.

They seem to have sent out quite a few so no I'm not worried, Sony haven't let any third party touch a PS5 yet......a month to go....you concerned?

I will agree on one thing, is that the XSX promotion is getting out of hand. MS need to come and show what we need to see rather than inluencers getting clicks based on good / bad things.

MS should team up with Valhalla and other likely good 3rd party offerings coming out soon and show 4k gameplay with hi res assets / non youtbe assets for people to download and discuss, talk about.

There didn't seem to be the option to just start it as you left it though. So if they update whilst you have it in your quick resume then you can't go back in to save off your progress properly? I mean there will always be lots of variables at play here and always online type games will need to manage stuff gracefully, but it's worth knowing so you don't end up relying on the feature too much.

i think this pursuit of 120 fps is a waste of time really.

And i say that for both xbox and ps5. just make shit 60fps and stop with the ugliness.
I am on this board too, because with mouse 120hz advatage is apparent. However 120hz TV are niche and also you are not dealing with super fast mouse, but controller, so yeah...

I did not play State of Decay, however is it some GaaS always connected game?

i don't know what to say anymore dude/dudette.

It seems not matter what Microsoft does, they are always come out smelling like roses.

It's like they can do no wrong in their eyes of there supporters.
You can start by saying where I was wrong. Seriously. There were 3 points the tweet made, I said why they were bs, so feel free to call me out on my bs. What did I say that was so wrong on all of those points?

Not sure how the new OS will handle quick resume if there is an update. I'm also not 100% sure if the game was already in a quick resume state.

The 2 memory PHY saving is quite large as well as the extra 16 CU and whatever interconnects .....be balanced against a 360-308 mm2 difference.

I do not for 1 second believe in the PC rumour of 128 MB L2 cache even for PC, thats ridiculous, I would believe it was total die cache is my guess but we dont know. If it is 128MB on PC it has to be a stacked die arrangement.

Infinity cache would not be exciting if your loosing that much die space and a whole load of potential additional GPU power.

To me I am expecting, if it is true, for ps5 to be maybe 8 or 12 MB L2, that would be massive in itself - 32 MB L2 does not compute IMO unless its stacked and off die.

There are lots of unknows of course.

It still looks way worse than the actual footage in motion. But I'm not worried about the XSX at all, I still expect that 3rd party games will look better on the XSX.

That they are showing this as next-gen footage only has to do with Microsoft buying the marketing rights for this game. So I don't see this as any indicator.

But why are we getting this FIRST?

The footage is getting ripped to shreds by online outlets.

Why not put out something that really show how powerful the console is?

Why put something out first that looks cross gen, and does nothing to sell XsX?

Are you talking about L2 cache for CPU or it's for GPU? Because 3900x has just 6MB of L2 cache, caches are really expensive to size of the die.
