PS5 unboxing embargos lift on the 27th, "other stuff" on the 6th, launch games in between

whats the point in the staggered NDAs if your console is basically sold out??...are they trying to hide something or is this just some weird torture for people that didnt get a pre-order

It’s a good strategy to keep hype up long term and make sure the PS5 releases at peak hype level. Also makes sure that each game gets good coverage and that content creators have plenty of time to make good videos and articles. Some of these games like Godfall have a small marketing budget so Sony doing it like this gives them the best marketing push they can have.

Sony have very strange approach to marketing, one that is outdated and archaic in the age of social media. I think their marketing has been pretty poor leading up to PS5 launch.
That's exactly backwards.

In the age of social media, we forget everything that happened yesterday because new stuff happens every day. By trickling new information constantly, they keep the media attention on them. Today, there are countless articles about the fact that we *won't have any information till next week*. Literally no news is commanding the news cycle.

One day it's the controller, the next it's the box, the next it's the headset (or whatever), and so on. There is never a couple of weeks where we haven't thought about this system.

When you have to have a legal contract to open up a cardboard box in front of a camera..what possibly count be the issue??...i hate NDA's as they are usually used to hide shitty games from honest opinions

Like you said there is no issue. They are just going to pull a console out of a box.

Pretty dumb to assume that Sony is afraid to show an unboxing. It's more logical to assume they they just want a bunch of unboxings released at the same time to generate hype on social media.

I'm trying to find an official unboxing of an Xbox Series X retail console. Has there been any yet?

Holy shit it’s huge

Can people stop saying it's so huge? It's really not. And if it was, get over it

Holy fuck they gave one to whoever that is?

That’s kind of rude, she looks very small compared to the PS5 box.:messenger_grinning_smiling:

iJustine’s sister, so probably her. Big YouTuber.

In general, glad that they’re doing a full rollout to all this gaming and tech personalities. It’s a different age, no thanks to how insufferable and bad gaming journalism has become. Sending a PS5 to IGN doesn’t really guarantee you’ll reach the people where they are anymore, but all the trendy YouTubers? Like or dislike that, it will result in a huge impact.

Wasn't the Mexican Youtuber XSX unboxing an official unboxing?

Seriously? Sony is utilizing social media in the most cost efficient way by having them generate all the hype without Sony having to do anything more than giving key influences a free PS5.

There are so many people who are willing to market on behalf of Sony (and Microsoft) it's crazy.

IMO since last year their marketing is bring flawless... planned, timed, and reaching unbelievable hype with the community every single time.

Basically Sony is winning the next-gen just with marketing.

While the competition every time they tried to use marketing it backslashed them... some times it was unlucky, sometimes just FUD, and others just bad marketing.

Exactly.

Sony little by little didn’t give any chance to consumers forget PS5 exists and it is coming.

Maybe they are still working on the software and want comparisons with Xbox as late as possible. Maybe the loading times are not perfect yet , i mean the people expect at least 100% faster from the magical wonder SSD.
That has nothing to do with torture, because casuals don't care about unboxing and so on. The casual torture starts when Sony starts the big marketing campaigns and there will be nothing to buy this year.

Why would they be afraid of people taking a console out of a box?
Definitely has to be rough sharp edges, that massive monster was because of the last minute boost clocks decision to lower the power gap, and the consequences are there in the plastics used and the rushed assemble design.
Why do you think that Japanese guy had to wear gloves in the turn apart videa?

Holy shit it’s huge

Nah the box is massive:

Lol dude that's all you got? We got it _ it's huge!! It's huge! Lol
No one that wants to buy a PS5 is going to give a shit about it... And casuals, and moms and dads, are going to look at it and think that it's so huge because it's so much powerful than ps4.... You wasting your time mate 🙃

U know creating good looking content takes time and if there was no embargo these sites would try to rush to push out a video as quick as possible to get the clicks (leading to lower quality video)and many things wouldn't get the shine it needs.

Its called marketing .

Everything is NDA'd these days.

I'm not sure why people are saying Sony is in the dark ages or do they have something to hide by staggering. Everyone is doing it.

I said as much with the XSX videos that were dropped over the last couple of weeks from 'creators'.

And it is a pile of shit. Precisely for what you say. No one can give honest opinions now.

You give someone access to pre-release content and in exchange you sign an agreement. You're handed a list of what you should highlight and talk about and crucially what you should avoid talking about.

It is just advertising made to look like someone's own opinion.
