Further clarification by Capcom on DMC5:SE: Series S will not have RT. Xbox Series X will get Direct X Ray Tracing Patch at a later date

What is the reason why the Xbox Series S is missing RT?

Honest question, how do you know it’s at a later date re:XSX? Have they said that elsewhere? Could be a day one patch scenario.

So we’re taking Reddit gaming rumours as gospel now?

You mean this?

The ray tracing function of the Xbox Series X version will be added in an update scheduled to be delivered after the release date.

That's not reddit.

If its running at 1080p, thats about 1/4 the resolution, and 1/3 the teraflops, should be no sweat. At 1440p its 1/2, maybe thats where it becomes a challenge?

I think the Series S is a good proposition as long as the Series X version is a 4K game. The entire crux of this system is that it makes up for a massive hardware deficit, by forgoing the nicetie, and crazy overhead of, 4K.

When something like a Ray Tracing mode crunches the Series X down to 1080p, there is simply nowhere (sensible) for the Series S to go, but removing that mode. It’ll be the same with Minecraft if that ever comes out.

Shows the intelligence of these so called spec thread "engineers". With how taxing rt is, you really thought it'd be on a 4tf console? 🤣

Nice bait attempt, while showing how little you actually know about the hardware lol.

I just thought it would be extremely limited since it's supposed to have the same* RT hardware the XSX has.

* Talking about the tech not the CU counts.

Well, Series S as 1/3 of the horsepower of Series X and 63% of its memory.

In addition to cut its resolution to 1080p or less it makes sense that they should cut extra stuff. I think this like this (removing RT on Series S) will be common, specially in the future, as next gen games get more demanding.

It wouldn’t be a negative if Microsoft presented the Xbox Series S in a more honest way, they literally said that and then followed up with how it supports ray tracing and all the other features of RDNA 2. Like go back and watch the *official* video explaining the system.
Well, what they say it's true. It will have games with up to 1440p (or even 4K), and other games with RT (but maybe at 30fps and 1080p/900p).

But people shouldn't expect to get the high end AAA games looking exactly like in Series X and at the same FPS but in 1440p. There is a meaningful difference of resources, so they'll have to cut FPS, resolution (until 1080p or beyond), lighting, shadows, RT or whatever they need to cut.

Kind of like saying ps4 pro won't have RT support. Come on people, nobody in here would have thought otherwise right ?

The Series S continues to look more and more like a bust. I honestly think they miscalculated and I don't think it'll take off like they wanted to. They shouldn't have even developed it to begin with and went all in on next gen with the series x and next generation features.. games..

I can't imagine the headaches that the hardworking developers have

well, Ubisoft managed to make it work in Watch Dogs on Series S, so it's either they don't even want to try or they have issues with the dev kits

a 1080p30 mode with RT should have been in the cards on Series S, but honestly, who the fuck would play it like that?

If raytracing is in the Series S version of Watch Dogs an open world game way more demanding than DMC5 then this is a developer issue.

nah fam, look at the poll, the all knowing council of NeoGaf knows it is because it is underpowered! it can't be anything else because that would go against the agenda!

Btw, no reason we shouldn’t see RT on Series S in other cases.

Take Miles Morales. The RT there, while impressive, has such a light touch that the game still runs in 4K (at least, I believe) at 30 FPS. Hypothetically, just for a second, if it were possible to put that game on Series X, I don’t see why Series S wouldn’t run RT at 1080p or so.

In this example, Capcom appears to have gone for a really expensive RT solution, crunching even the premium hardware down to 1080p, and leaving nowhere for the S to go.
