The Unboxing Wars have ended: Microsoft won

Well now we have seen the unboxing videos for all versions of next gen consoles, its safe to say xbox presentation is much better. The way the box opens, the console wrapped in a small parcel with “Power your Dreams” tag.
Its simply....

Steve Jobs would be proud lol

Good, but Apple actually deliver product wise (iTunes has music on it, it pushed the iPod, the mac has applications on it, etc.)... Just another example of MSs' fixation on the wrong thing.

A nice box should be only the beginning (and I don't watch unboxing videos, this is a matter of principle).

Congrats on the box, Xbox.

Funny you mention Jobs, I do think there was some influence there, the Surface line was grown as a premium alternative to macs, and they learned how to do a nice feeling unboxing experience from that. That team is working with the Xbox team, so that's probably the direct line between them. The PS5's does feel more like a standard electronics device box.

I don't think packaging is all that important, but I've bought tons of Sony products over the years and I know for a fact they could've done better than this.

Yeah, this is groady. The PS4 wasn't crazy, but at least it opened from the front which was slick.

Yep, you have to admit that. Just seems like any old standard electronics box unboxing meant to get the device to you in an economical fashion, and while it's not 1% of my next gen consideration, watching the videos it did seem like the unboxing just didn't tell you "you're getting something special here".

Looks like some people taking this thread a little serious. No fun allowed?!

And Sony is delivering the PS5 with a game on it😉

Oh god. I’m actually going to be serious about this. Why do I do it to myself?

Less packaging is better for the environment, which Sony are keen on proving they are thinking about. They’re not going to ship the Ps5 in a box they know doesn’t do the job. These people are not fucking idiots.

The better question is why Microsoft aren’t making more effort, given how important environmental concerns are to consumers these days.
