Okay, but who is Yuko?

Actually I’ve got no idea either. Just wanted to be with the cool twatter kids 🙈

Hotchip conference does not ever mention it, not even in the die shot.

For the PS5, Yuko declared that it does not have infinity cache.

At the moment no console uses Infinity Cache

I always thought ps5 might have shared L1 but not big L2 (as 308mm no room anyway), nice to see Kitty confirm. Kitty is Corgi !

The redesigned data paths for efficient movement to me means shorter distance on silicon from A to B, and hence no PC part has more than 10 CU per array for starters and layout on chip minimises paths.

And agressive pipeline rebalancing is sometghing to do with additional packers / shared caches....but we wait more detail.

MY take on Cernys presentation / smart shift and CU clock control I believe ps5 is doing most of below (to be confirmed)

IMHO it's already ended. The moment that we were shown the games that kinda sealed it: Craig vs Miles Morales/Godfall, that's what pretty much ends all discussion.

Yup, we know ps5 clock speed, smart shift and cache optimsation ties in with what has been presented. W

We know more now in that ps5 frequency control will not be bespoke, its not an outlier, it will LIKELY be same as PC parts and RDNA2 but the same gating logic shared with the CPU.

All we would know from die shots is layout, the only mystery is the RT core and if its shared with shader like XSX or not.

What I am amazed about, is if that's the really best that XSX can deliver, and how con PS5 deliver a better result then XSX. Because if things stay as they are today, it's kinda embarassing to boast all that power and then have what we have seen.

Even if there is parity between multiplat, it would be pretty embarassing for XSX.

This guy, main RDNA2 leaker, who gave us all 6800 and XSX specs weeks ago. The kitty Corgi and even Paul of RGT and everyone else can found lurking and asking . There are a few others like Rogame etc. Paul has other sources I understand as well.

Hence, wanted to see AMD presentation to confirm Kitty statement a few weeks ago.. Front end he means infinity cache, CU is what it is, RT means same as PC, back end he means VRS etc is my take. And backed up by die shots etc / data.

Why would one assume that's the best a XSX can deliver? When have launch window games give anything other than a glimpse of a systems future capabilities? I feel like it's a weird claim to make when it's undoubtedly going to be proven wrong. PS5 100% has games that are further along in development than XSX, but it would be unhelpful to extrapolate beyond that.

Has anyone seen a Digital Edition PS5 in the wild yet?

It's the one I want (And the best looking), but all we ever see is the disc version.

what does it mean by 'front ends'?

Flashless at the Golden Globes

i understand that the 128 MB cache takes up a whopping 600 million transistors. thats basically the entire ps4 pro GPU.

However, it is great to see that AMD has finally realized that increasing CUs was a bottleneck and just increasing CUs was not going to offer a linear performance increase. Nvidia found this out when they increased the shaders from 2944 to 8700 from rtx 2080 and 3080 and despite a 3x increase in shader procoessors they only got a 1.8x increase in performance.

AMD however was able to double the performance of the 5700xt by doubling the CU counts and adding this cache. It's clever engineering and I suspect everyone is going to be doing this going forward instead of just increasing CUs or shader processors.

what is PS5 missing?

Possibly the mesh shader, because Sony has a (what they believe to be) a better GE and they can do a more optimized job. Having said that, I am just an old fart :D

Could mine be there? Please? Pretty please?

Thank you^^

Well, no one knows who Yuko is, or if it's a he or a she.

Why would one assume that's the best a XSX can deliver?

Because maybe you want to show off and sell the system? I dunno, I feel it would be a decent strategy :)

I keep reading on this thread that the only reason MS can make the, "only console with full rdna2" claim has to do with direct x 12U compatibility. How does Vulcan or open GL fit into this conversation?
I'm bumping this question as I haven't had anyone give any input. If the only reason MS can claim "only console with full rdna2 support" is because of Directx 12U compatibility, then how does Vulcan or Open GL fit into this conversation?

Ask him, he does not reply to much, you will find people like RGT, Videocardz and other sites in the tweet history lol asking same questions..... :messenger_beaming:

My guess is Infinity cache, but could also refer to packers and (20 x) wavefronts which is different on XSX to RDNA2 (16 x).

You should directly ask someone that made that point instead of throwing it out.

I'm sure they would prefer to have their games further along, but they don't. Hence why they are pushing the enhancements to a customers current xbox library. Drawing conclusions of future potential based on a lack of software doesn't seem like a wise thing to do as they are not related.

Exactly, the other point people seem to not understand is that the Halo Infinite demo wasn't on XSX, it was on PC. We don't even know what the spec was of that PC. Nobody has seen the XSX version so far. So it's pretty pointless using that game as some sort of representation of the capabilities of Series X.

Also like you say launch games are never a good benchmark anyway.

And it's just the start, i think people aren't ready for Ragnarok that will blow millions minds, i think Sony didn't want to show anything yet to save it for later, but also to not overshadow the Q1 next gen games.

Because Ps5 will not likely have the mesh shaders, we have seen Cerny and Matt hargatt talk anough about Sony own customised Geometry engine to know this. Note that Sony would of had the option of mesh shaders from AMD, but chose their own route.

Oh, but it is wise and on point: console is launching now, not in 1 year time. If the console can't show something on par or better than the competition, they have failed the marketing campaign. In the shops they boxes will be side by side: on one you get Miles Morales or Godfall or R&C running in full ray trace glory at 4K and with next to no loading time between levels; on the other side they'll sho Tetris or an old X1X game running. That isn't good for the narrative when you have to sell something.

Exactly, the other point people seem to not understand is that the Halo Infinite demo wasn't on XSX, it was on PC.

Which actually is even a worst narrative than having it run on XSX: it's was not even running on XSX. Actually pretty much nothing next-gen has been shown to run on the XSX. Even respectable youtubers are starting to say that there is nothing nextgen available for the XSX. It's not an easy position for Microsoft.

I'm not sure why some people here are so focused on RDNA v1 / v2 / v3.

Let's face it, you don't understand at all what any of this means, you're not devs so why bother ?

If one console doesn't have the same exact feature set, it means they probably have a similar custom solution with another name. It doesn't matter how it's named.

You shouldn't care about that at all, stop thinking you're devs when you don't even understand the way CPU and GPU work. We had tons of people here not even understanding how PS5 variable frequency works ffs, so forget about understanding RDNA lol

Just comment about games and hardware features you like, that's what you can understand.

The truth is the only thing that matters is games.

I like a little bit back and forum and having some kicks and laughs but Games are where it is.

When the dust settles in a few weeks the rotten reality of which consoles has nice shinny new exculses to play is going to come home to roost.

I hate to say it, it's going to be brutal when it does.

We aren't debating whether their marketing is effective or not. It is the idea that their games aren't going to look better in the future, compared to what has been shown so far, and how "embarrassing" it is. My stance is, no one being honest would make that assumption in the first place.

I don't think R&C is at launch either, is it even this year? The biggest selling game will be Black Ops Cold War, that has ray tracing on both and will be there.

More importantly neither console will actually be on shelves at launch because they are both sold out.

By the time you can actually buy either console we will have seen the likes of Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty on both and will know how both versions perform.
