DualSense battery info

The first revision of the DS4 was 800mAh, later revisions came with 1000mAh.

I believe my Uncharted 4 color scheme one is 1000mAh, and I noticed a change in how long it lasts over the launch one that came with the console in 2013. I will double check the back when I get home.

Just double checked, it’s 800mAh as well.

How about the newer ones with the LED through the touchpad?

Would love to see that! Never seen one with 1000mAh, but could be 1000mAh internally but says 800mAh in the outside.

It's not a real solve for pure battery life, but you don't need a long wire to reach your console; you need to bring the power to you.

These current consoles (PS4, Switch, and Xbox) work just fine off of power banks, so all you need to do is drop a cellphone charger in your pocket and run a short wire from the controller to the battery. And most of these batteries now do 2.1A or better output (and I assume the controllers have more current fast-charging support than last gen?) so you should be topped off quickly so that you should be able to spend most of your play time without the wire.

Sweet, but DualSense will use USB2.0. Mostly to for battery longevity over fast charging.

I haven't haven't had time to do any long term tests and I'm not being super accurate with recording my findings but here is my update for the battery mod I did. I have been playing Demon Souls and got 10+ hours with the stock battery and am getting 20+ with my mod, as I expected.
The new battery weighs 50g compared to the stock 27g. I didn't have to cut anything inside the controller to make the new battery fit but I did install the stock battery's board onto the new battery in order to keep the 3 wire connection with thermistor. You can see my new battery vs the stock with and without its plastic enclosure to understand how I am fitting a battery that is so much bigger inside.

Just be aware some batteries like that can bulge like crazy for almost no reason at all.

I've done battery mods in my controllers for more than a decade and I didn't respect the batteries as much in the beginning so I'm well aware haha. I've had a DS4 pop apart from a swelling battery that was being squeezed by the controller casing but luckily the battery never ruptured.

I've modded over 50 controllers for friends and family and I've only had the one failure from being overly ambitious with how big of a battery I can fit.

Amazing job, mate. Some are reporting around 10 hours usage on average and around 20 hours if the both haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are tuned down to "Weak". Got the controller yesterday and checked the manual and it says the battery is indeed 1560mA but rated as 1500mA. Not sure what that mean, but I believe that's the case with DS4 being 1000mA and rated as 800mA.

Surprisingly, the controller feels familiar and not as big I thought, actually feels about the same width with better weight distribution. Might get my PS5 today or tomorrow then gonna check Astro's indeed!

Keep us updated if anything goes wrong with the replaced batteries, and if you have a link of where to get those would benefit a lot here.

I'll definitely keep everyone posted if anything goes wrong but I really doubt that will happen.
I'm not comfortable sharing where I ordered the battery from because I had to mod the battery itself that I ordered to add a logic board that has a thermistor and I'd hate it if someone who didn't know what they are doing broke their gear or injured themselves.

If someone really wants to do the mod, the dimensions of the battery I installed will be listed as 094260 and they can search for it themselves.

The stock battery does seem improved over the DS4 so most people will probably be fine with it but if they really want a larger one then it would probably be smarter to find a replacement battery that already has the third thermistor wire pre-installed so it's a direct swap with no cutting or soldering involved.

Well that sir is pretty nuts. I gotta say I'm really disappointed to hear battery life at stock was only 10 hours for you. I got my DS5 yesterday but because I only have PC I've had limited ability to test it. As support improves I'll be using it more and more on the regular and see how it does for me without the excessive haptic feedback and no trigger motor action. Hoping for closer to 12+. Still shameful honestly when I know a pair of AA rechargeables can get you like 30+ hours on an XB controller and with a 4 pack you can literally have 10 seconds of downtime between charges.

Anyways would you ever consider doing a guide on how to make one of those modded battery packs? I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who would be willing to try it if the knowledge was shared. I'm curious to do it myself if only as a way to have a backup plan going forward in 4 or 5 years when the stock battery starts going bad and I'd like to extend my time with the controller another few years.

Are you welling to sell any online though? Although I'm fine with having 2 controllers and the charging station to switch between the controllers when one dies, it might be nicer if it can survive the whole session. I usually play more than 8 hours, sometimes more than 24 hours without a sleep if a wonderful game is released like PS first party. Maybe you can make some side money?

It could have been closer to 12 hours than 10 but I really wasn't timing it very well and I like to give low estimates when talking anything that's not money.

I'm personally in the camp that the xbox method of offering both AA and rechargeable Lithium is far superior and I would just use AA if the option was there. I primarily game with a Steam controller on PC and have been spoiled by incredibly long battery life. Switching out my rechargeable AAs as needed is fast and it's nice never having a charging cord strung about.

I'm not at all willing to do that but perhaps I can find a different battery online that is pre-wired. I doubt I'll find one as large as the one I used but it would still be bigger than stock.

Was just browsing on Amazon and found even better batteries than the Paxo batteries that I've installed in my two controllers.

There's a battery with 2700mah and another one with 2650mah.

Excited to found out which shitty battery will be included in the Dualsense Edge.
