Is if they put gamepass on Switch. I feel like they would get a lot more Japanese support as well and more Japanese consumers into their ecosystem.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Game Pass on Switch? Like, streaming?

You can't "put Gamepass on Switch."

If MS has success on Switch, it'll be in selling their streaming tech to companies wanting to release games on Switch via streaming.

And for all we know they are already doing that.

xCloud is Microsoft's safety net. Anyone who doesn't want a home console, but wants to play their games, can do so using their mobile phones. If xCloud doesn't catch on in Japan, then Microsoft will continue to flounder there, because the Series X and Series S just aren't going to change their fortunes when the PS5 is already seeing diminishing returns compared to the PS4.

Minecraft on 3ds. ALso:

I am not sure if that is the video where they talk about it (I searched for it to post here, but I am not sure if that is the video where I saw it). There have been games that were licensed by some company and released as a piece of crap for competing platforms, so their own platform would look good in comparison.

Now Minecraft, I believe in the 3ds it originally had the 3d stereoscopic feature, but yet once it was released and sold, M$, who bought Minecraft, crippled it by removing the stereoscopic feature and any kind of online play, basically selling something useless for a full price. Imagine if you could play online Minecraft and watch it as a real 3d thing, how would have it looked in their own platform compared to it (their own game), and why not prefer the 3d version instead. And if it had those features and they crippled it I still don't understand why there has not been a class action suit yet

in the past ( i dont know if this is a thing now) microsoft third party contracts stipulated some games can have more features on other systems or be better on some aspects,i saw some examples a long time ago

Their marketing is a complete embarrassment. Whoever greenlight their TGS presentation needs to be fired. Instead of playing up the things which might appeal to the average Japanese consumer, they doubled down on the game lineup and style which has gotten them nowhere for the last twenty years. Lazy fuckers didn't even change the music, except for that tacked on idol performance at the end or whatever that shit was supposed to be.

Don't give me that crap that Western companies can't be successful in Japan. Even Windows and the Surface Pro are successful in Japan.

Just make good Japanese centric games that aren't censored.

just properly invested in an single player exclusives that would gain attention of japanese gamers. Ghost of Tsushima is good example. Japan has 'obsession' with mascot so MS could make something iconic that would connect with the audience there. Notice popular Nintendo franchise there? and how other popular titles there received? there also lot of female gamers there that need to be take account for.
Multiplayer trend at japan probably full of mmo, moba and mobile game. Moba and mobile game definitely mainly on different platform like smartphones and pc. I dont think fps is very popular either. Making MMO is not easy as throwing money. Amazon for example throwing money to make mmo and yet we dont know how it going to be. even the beta has lot of complaint.

in the end it fall to one things. it is also same reason why xbox 360 gained foot there. its the GAMES. Exclusives. 360 has tons of them especially jrpg. if MS have this back again, not just japan, they could shake Sony as well.

Buy Sony or Nintendo. That's about it.

The Japanese market is massively xenophobic. If it has the Microsoft name on it and it's a game console it isn't selling, full stop.

It has never been about exclusives. Never. Not in japan, not in the US, not in anywhere. The 360 had some stellar exclusive japanese games and still completely bombed there.

At the end of the day Microsoft don't need Japan. With every passing year the Japanese market becomes more and more irrelevant in the video game world. It's been on a downward slope for generations. Their developers still struggle to keep up with the rest of the world, their market don't care about western games, and they increasingly just don't care about home consoles at all. If the switch wasn't portable it would be a bomba there as well.

Don't see why Microsoft spends so much energy and money trying to make Xbox successful in Japan. If they aren't going to build Xbox Japan around local mobile carrier's and cute anime Gacha gaming, they are just spinning their wheels in a endless loop going nowhere. If they bought some of the largest South Korean mobile game companies and partnered with local Japanese mobile companies they might have a chance. Dena? Offer all the Gacha content free with Xbox gamepass. All the content free with your sub to gamepass 24/7. Alot of Americans would find that compelling for one mobile game or another. Xcloud is dead in the US with data caps or until Microsoft buys T-Mobile. Microsoft only cares about Azure utilization anyway.

The one and only way Microsoft wins Japan is either outright buying Nintendo or switch games on series s x , there is absolutely no other way

First of all, console market in Japan is in a dire situation tbh. I dont think there`s enought breathing room for 3 competitors there...

What???

It`s a very culturally different market dude.

It`s not like japanese folks buy a half baked version of produced locally gears of wars or halo. They buy different games.
This isn't some new revelation, been that way for years.

Not everything , but its 'all about' exclusives. Someone can denied but thats how its going on. Its not never but always been. Even where it is. Not just for MS, but for Sony and Nintendo or anyone as well. Surely it not main thing but it one of biggest factor. History already prove this. 360 is good example dont denied that chances. Its like someone launch a TV Station but later the producer claim that exclusives content/tv show is not important.

Why MS bother to buy other studio or company at first place then?

Who cares about Japan anyway. USA is where it's at!
Japan makes a unique type of games that the west often fails to replicate.
By excluding them, they do so in expense of variety and audience.
Lets not forget how the X360 by it's end was filled with military shooters.

Honestly don't see how success in Japan is even necessary for them. In reality, it seems like a market too small for them to worry about in comparison. But yeah, if buying Sega gives them an "in," I imagine that's their best option anyway.

Why would anyone in Japan want to buy Xbox when Japanise companies put all of their titles also on PS4 and/or Switch and Microsoft own games don't appeal to them ?

Microsoft has very little understanding of non-english speaking countries which is why majority of their sales comes from North America.
