RE3 is the biggest for me. The game is very well made, what's there of it at least. But there was so much missing from it and condensed down, and it felt like it had limited replay value compared to RE2 (my Steam playtime says 7 hours for 3 versus 45 for 2, maybe I just couldn't be bothered playing more).

There's worse games on that list but I actually had a lot of hope for RE3 after how well the RE2 remake turned out. It also makes me concerned if these same devs are handling the supposed RE4 remake next.

Easily Avengers. Just doesn't work in a way that you can't say about anything else on this list.

TLOU2 for me.

loved the first game and was HYPED for Part 2. It was one of the top 3 games I was excited for. Had been looking forward to it since finishing the first game in 2013.

got spoiled and holy shit the story was awful. the person who spoiled it for me done me a favour. Thanks for saving me £55.

Why isn't an unreleased game in the poll? What a question.

Most overhyped title of the last decade, that comes out in 2020.
That also has lots of people already playing it before the creation of this thread.

Yet the OP can fill the options up with fodder trash like Predator HG and an expansion, that people forgot existed until seeing the poll.

No, but on this forum it felt like everyone knew what was coming, I'm just wondering how many people were honestly disappointed when they actually played it.
I was actually, I saw the leaks but thought “I give them the benefit of the doubt, it’s a videogame and all that matters is if the execute the concepts correctly” sadly they did not imo. So I’d say I was pretty disappointed

Lol what. I can’t tell if you’re kidding

I didn't hate TLOU2, it was a good game. 7/10. A technical masterpiece ruined by the disastrous story. Since I think the first game is one if the best games ever, if not the best, I was incredibly disappointed in the choices Naughty Dog made with the story. The fact that I put in 300 USD in this (collector's and special editions) just made it hurt even more. In a way, TLOU2 even ruined the first game a bit. I will never return to TLOU2 but if I return to The Last of Us, I will probably see it differently now.

Curious to hear what made people disappointed in Valhalla. Isn't just more of the new AC formula but a bit better?

Two games come to mind:

1st: Resident Evil 3. After the stellar remake of the second resident evil, this game feels like an afterthought. Way too short, nemesis feels less threatening then MrX and a tacked on multiplayer. Resident Evil 3 deserved better.

2nd: Doom Eternal. Everything about Doom Eternal sounds great - on paper. Once you play it, it feels less like a power fantasy (that it is supposed to be) and more like realtime combat-chess. You constantly have to switch between weapons, slice demons for ammo, use all kinds of abilities and shit to stay on top. In hindsight, 2016 was much better. You could just play the way you want to, Eternal forces you into a certain playstyle, I didn't like that. They went waaaay to far with the interwoven gameplay mechanics. Sometimes less is more.

I haven't played the ubishit on OPs list, so I can't comment on that.

What time is it?
Resident Evil 3 deserved better.

I voted for RE3 Remake and Avengers but my pick's gonna be Deadly Premonition 2.

Yeah, the original was super jank but had a lot a charm so I still had expectations. This one is even jankier (at launch at least) and lacks most of the charm of its predecessor. And my god, Swery caving to that stupid trans nontroversy is the biggest disappointment of all... Be careful for what you wish for, they say...

We all know exactly where this threads headed but the reality is it's Resident Evil 3.

1. Completely turns the open non-linear aspect of the original game into what is basically a COD-style corridor shooter, the "puzzles" were jokes.

2. Removes entire chunks of gameplay from the original game and instead replaces it with a multiplayer game that was pretty much dead on arrival

3. Feels more like a platinum style action game with guns, not surprising considering it was made by a B-team of platinum developers who worked on MGS: Rising.

3a. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would've been cool to have them reboot Maximo or something and instead just having the RE2:Remake team continue their work.

4. Criminally short, should've been 40 dollars on launch. If you were pretty skilled you could accidentally speed run the game on your first try as we saw with a lot of people.

5. All the upgrades from Nemesis could be gotten from 2 main encounters

6. We see Jill in a good form for the first time in 20 years and the return was quickly forgotten, also locking the original Riot Grrrl/Girl Power costume as pre-order DLC and resold later was a shit move and they knew it.

You missed a good point

Mr X from Remake 2 was a better Nemesis than Nemesis himself

TLoU2 - Idk what they did that took so long. Sure, it looks gorgeous, but it plays just like any other game of its type. No wild AI advancements or anything, and they even cut out the MP.

To be honest I can't really think of anything else that is really bad that I bought. Haven't played enough Valhalla. I know Predator and Avengers are trash, so I didn't buy them.

Maybe because it's a 30hr long singleplayer with an unprecedented level of polish

TLoU Part II, definitely. I wasn't even that hyped for it but it just had garbage pacing, boring characters, too many crappy stealth sections and was way too long.

Half of the game is a pretentious walking simulator or simply trying to work out where to go.

It also only gave us around an hour of what we actually wanted, the daddy-daughter relationship.

Probably re3 from that list, 5 hours game with cutted contents and worse gore than remake 2, also not a fan of new nemesis, also jill is kinda of a bitch in this one.

Tlou2 was not really a surprise, never liked ng storytelling or characters that much but animations, combat and graphics were great so no disappointment for me.

Avengers is disappointing in general because they wasted arguably the strongest brand in the last 10 years for a mediocre buggy as hell game.

Avengers for sure. I can't be disappointed TLOU2 because I have no interest in playing it.

It's kinda amazing how badly CD fucked up the Avengers. That should've been a sure fire hit but they decided to put all that GAAS stuff in it and ruined it. Honestly, they should've mad a character action game and called it a day. Honestly, MUA3 is a much better use of the Avengers and Marvel in general.

Avengers looked shit from day one. No idea how anyone can be disappointed by it, unless they're just disappointed that the game didn't do a complete 180 over the course of development.

TLOU2 because from a technical standpoint, it's a masterpiece. But the plot, script, characters were all whack and the gameplay wasn't that interesting whatsoever. Spend most of the game rubbing up against furniture and mashing triangle. The combat looks nice, but people easily conflate gameplay and animation.

Also Torchlight 3. I don't think I've seen one single recommendation for the final game in a series that I loved previously.

The original also ran relatively well on the 360, pretty much a locked 30fps iirc. Swery games running like dogshit only seems to be a thing ever since the DP port for PS3. No one should've accepted DP2's shocking performance on Switch, not even as "part of the charm".

I cant get excited for 2077,
It looks tonally poor and an odd choice in 2020, I think there will be impressive moments but I really wish we got The Witcher 4 instead.

TLOU putting apart the story, i really found extremely wasted the good gun play the game had to offer. In how many areas the games throws at you more than 5-6 enemies? Like 2 and that's it. If the online mode was present, for sure it would have done justice to the wasted gameplay. Because at the end of the day, i want to play to a game, ok story and stuff, but the substance is something else.
Also, i found the difficulties bad adjusted, Normal was too easy, ending playing like rambo in every area, and still having full inventory. Jumping to Hard, in certain point i found my self without anything, and ok you can do stealth, but the problem persist.
Another problem, levelling the abilities it's maybe the most useless thing in the game, they don't even tried to make them integrate and have, even a little impact on the enemies.
All that, just made this game un-replayabile for 2 times. Ended and never touched again. From what i've seen the Platinum is also easy, but i don't know really who can really put himself for the second time in that game who have nothing to offer for a second run. And the slow start (and not only the start) doesn't help.
The answer to most of this problems : the missing online mode.

TLOU2 for sure. It was such a highly antacipated game and then we got a complete Story mess with bad writing and pacing while setting Abby on a 8 hour side quest to make her more likeable by killing people who are even less likeable then her XD

PS: Fuck these 4 people who voted Yakuza. It is GOTY so far :messenger_beaming::messenger_savoring:

Oh, Dying Light 2 both not coming out this year and reportedly being a bit of a disaster is up there for me too.

I really hope they turn that thing around in 2021. First is one of the most underrated games of the generation.

doom eternal

its not a bad game by any means. but its a huge disappointment for me. im slowly making my way through it, but i cant take very much of it at one time. hopefully itll grow on me over time. they did a lot right however, and i think its a good game... but it doesn't feel like DOOM to me, and ultimately it is a let down.

Surprised not to see Doom Eternal on the list. Couldn’t finish it. And I managed to get to the last mission. Loved Doom 2016.

Surprised to see RE3 on the list. It was my most enjoyable game of the year in think. Played it 4 times. I know, I know, it’s short but couldn’t get enough of it. Spectacular game.

Predator HG did get hyped, streamed and trended for a while, a bit early for CP77.

WarCraft III: Reforged, easily. One of the best games of all time ruined in one of the worst remakes of a game ever made. Whoever worked on the remake clearly didn't understand WarCraft III nor did they understand RTS games.

And why the hell is Yakuza: Like A Dragon on that list? This is the best game released this year.

the list is based on user score. YLaD was lower than the previous game, also lower than critic score. also rounded the list at 10:messenger_grinning_sweat:

kind of surprised nobody is talking about FIFA yet. had a user score of 0.7, as in 7/100.

Some nice picks in the poll. Here are my disappointments:
- TLoU2 is by far my biggest one. The story and the characters were just not what I hoped for (and I wasn't hoping for a happy ending or some fun times in general) and I couldn't enjoy the game despite very good gameplay mechanics.
- Torchlight 3 also ended up being a disappointment, a big one after I got excited with the announcement of dropping the MMO angle.
- Predator Hunting Grounds barely has any content and from what I've seen playing as Predator just doesn't feel badass enough
- XCOM Chimera Squad maybe wasn't a huge disappointment, but I was hoping to get another big XCOM game, not a side project with weird aesthetics
- Resident Evil 3 was way too short compared to the amount of content in RE2. I would've been pissed buying the game at full price.

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
I'm going with Torchlight 3. It's aggressively boring and feels unfinished. The progression was poorly thought out, the zones unremarkable, the AI clumsy, etc. $30 (on sale) down the drain.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
TLOU2. Loved the first one, hated this one. Never ever buying a game from ND again, fuck em.

Also kinda sad with Mount & Blade 2. The game is good (put 80 hours on release) but they released it in a laughable state. Last time I bite the early access bait, for sure.

And why the hell is Yakuza: Like A Dragon on that list? This is the best game released this year.
My same exact thought. I could understand it from people that prefers brawlers to JRPGs but come on, the game is awesome

Amiga Amiga can you add Crysis Remastered?

Is one of the worst remaster in history.

thought about it but the reviews were bad, hardly anyone expected anything good out of it. this and Godfall were hyped for hardware not their actual substance.

You need to play them to be disappointed
lol sure. Also either quote my full post or at least don't change it by putting full stop where i'm continuing my sentence. It gives a very different meaning and makes you look like a douche.

None. Everyone expected Avengers to be shit months before release. TLOU2 gameplay saved the game for me, I am not an OG TLOU fan so the story didn't affect me much.
AC Valhalla and Yakuza surprised me positively.
