Cyberpunk 2077 currently looks really bad on PS5 (not a shitpost).

BC isn't as scale-able on PS5, so I think that may hurt it initially. But once the next gen patches arrive (whenever that is) it should be either about the same on both. Or if the tools have not arrived for XSX, possibly a bit better on PS5.

Lol dude, you know whats sucks? Not showing console footage prior to release. It is so beyond me how ppl like you are gonna defend CDP when they spit in your face. Yea, not showing console release was a weird move and now I know why.

I hear ya man. After reading more and more impressions while I’m waiting for my disc copy to arrive, I’m also getting peeved about how poor of a job they did on the console versions, and shady it was of them to hide that fact from the public.

I'm still excited to try it at some point, but honestly everything I've seen so far left me really underwhelmed, regarding the city density and overall environmental detail, moment to moment gameplay.

I was watching a review last night where this guy is going over the top gushing praise on the city design and trotting out the usual things you hear (the city never sleeps, living breathing, yadda yadda yadda), and I just couldn't help but think, are you talking about the game I'm watching you talk over? Because it looks like standard open world fare. He called it the best looking game he'd ever seen, and I just was not seeing this at all in his footage. The crowds look sparse, the city looks nice but I've seen cities before, what can I do?

I guess I was expecting something a little more revolutionary but this looks like standard open world game design, with potentially mediocre shooting and not so great driving.

Yes its embarrassing. I actually thought its Cyberpunk version. Should have checked more carefully. Apologise
For the record I wasn’t singling you out. There are a ton of people out there being ridiculous about this game, and I was commenting on the general stupidity as a whole. 😉

Will any of these review sites be honest and give the console version the score it deserves? I mean, I know the answer, but this is not a 9/10 game on console.
I think the problem is game sites seem skewed to the next gen consoles.

What they can do is play both and give a middle ground kind of score, but sites never do that. Or say next gen 9, last gen 6. The gap between next gen and last gen is so big there should be a call out. But how often does a game review compare both versions in detail? Not often.

It'll still smooth it out but maybe not totally, you can also force 120hz output on Xbox will won't affect the framerate but will make the drops less noticeable as you'll have 8ms refreshes instead of 16.

I don't mean to dogpile, but most VRR displays currently only work when the framerate is above ~48fps. So if a game is dipping into the 30s, VRR is more than likely not engaged at all. This is where gsync displays are rather exceptional as they are able to stay enabled at lower framerates. So sadly, VRR will not have an impact in this scenario

On series X however the framerate seems to stick around 60, with smaller dips into that 50s that are completely invisible on a VRR display.

CDPR only sent PC review codes, thats why they are not trashing this game. Xbox One S and base PS4 version, should never had been released in this state.
CDPR got good reputation for being very consumer friendly, but they whent all scummy by hidding this version as much as they could to garantee those pre-orders.

120Hz VRR displays such as the LG C9/X support LFC, which basically means VRR has no set minimum.

I haven't kept up with review platform. Is that fact or an assumption?

So all these 9s and 10s arent even from Series X or PS5? Everyone is actually just doing PC reviews?

As far as im aware its a fact that reviwers only got PC review codes from CDPR. If some reviewer is reviweing the consoles version is probably because they bought the game themselves.

Now that the game is out i think we will start seeing more reviews of console versions.

the game has been development for like 7 years. It’s not that it’s unoptimized, it’s that this game hasn’t been built leveraging the massive paradigm shift of modern development tools and techniques that we will start seeing as this gen takes off.

Slapping Ray tracing as a topcoat on what is last gen frame through and through isn’t going to change that IMO. Even with a next gen patch this game will be top of class last gen and will not come anywhere near what this new gen can and will achieve.
What a load of complete drivel.

Wow, I thought there is no way it's that bad... after turning it on and playing for 2 hours on my PS4 Pro, damn it looks so bad, everything is extremely blurry, the only beautiful thing is the lighting. First hour was cool since it's close quarters but as soon as I got into an open world that shit was 720p, it's like GTA 5 with that mod that allows you to play on a weak PC (so even weaker than Very low setting), also fps is like 20 as soon as you start sprinting. The story and world are amazing so far so I'll have to put the game away until they patch this.

There is no denying that this game looks shocking on the PS5. I went from wandering through the beautiful open plains of the English countryside in AC Valhalla to the nightmarish vision of a bar, drawn by a 10 year old in crayon, in CP2077. Deleted and waiting for the PS5 patch. Learn from the error of my ways and wait people.

Posted this on the OT.. I'll post it here also.

Played on PS4 PRO for about 5 hours. I have some words I want to get out. I'll try not to get hyperbolic..

In my opinion, this is probably the most impressive achievement in world building and atmosphere ever in a game (See? Already failed with the hyperbole). I can't fucking believe the incredible mix of technology and art on display most of the time while traversing the city. And I really think most people aren't really grasping what this almost 8 year technology is delivering. These CPUs on these consoles are incredibly limited hardware judging by today standards. This is on the same wizardry level of getting GTA5 to run the way it did on PS3. Maybe even more impressive.

It's absolutely insane to expect this game to not show flaws and to struggle with some situations. A few low res textures, pop-in..lower NPC counts.. yes.. they are all present as of today. But we have to put into context the exquisite architecture and insane amount of geometry this engine is pushing on a moment to moment basis... and in a fully Open World City. It's not only the complexity that's always on display.. it's the sheer amount of unique assets that gives the world so much fucking attitude and personality. It looks absolutely insane on a PS4 PRO.. Everywhere you go, every alley way, market, junction...is so full of life and unique assets. I simply have never seen anything like it before. Every corner of this city is a photo mode opportunity, I've never seen that before in a game.

Listen, this game, like the Witcher 3, is meant to let you get lost in its world. The great thing about The Witcher 3 was the handcrafted feel of its world and characters. We all know that the gameplay part wasn't mindblowing.. most people consider Witcher 3 combat subpar. Even so, people fell in love with the game because of how well realized the setting, lore, characters in general were. Cyberpunk takes this concept to another level, while providing with an incredibly better combat loop.. however, the world building and writing are just on a whole different league.

I just can't understand how people are not impressed with what this game is offering from a technological standpoint (I don't know how inferior base console versions look in comparison to the pro/X, but people complaining on PS5 and XBOX SX versions through back-compat seems insane to me given what's on display). People saying this is a bad game is a textbook case of out of touch expectations or just simply not matching with the genre this game fits into.

Remember this is an immersive sim/RPG. In my opinion it's a game to take your time, explore each nook and cranny, take in the sights and sound, get into the lore, read the notes and texts. This IS like the Witcher 3.. just much more impressive on a scale and technological level. And if you are slightly interested in the Cyberpunk genre or aesthetics, and are capable of accepting a few glitches and bugs, believe me this is the game you've been waiting for.. Guaranteed.

Problem was more the reviews solely being for the PC version since CDPR didn't provide review codes for the console versions (for reasons now apparent). That said, it's perfectly playable on XSX (and I presume PS5--have one but bought the game on XSX for quality mode), just looks very soft and like a mid-tier last gen AAA game at best IMO. I feel for my buddy who preordered and only has a base PS4. I haven't sold my PS4 Pro yet, been busy and didn't get around to listing it, so may let him borrow that until he can find a PS5.

I'm having a good time with it for sure, and mostly agree with what you say. But I would note that for me immersive sims, taking time and taking in the sights etc. is hampered quite a bit when graphics are subpar. I'll get a lot more out of that after the next gen upgrade for sure.

It's also hampered a tad for me personally vs. Witcher 3 as I love fantasy stuff and am pretty meh on scifi and completely indifferent about cyberpunk type settings. So it's really on the lore, story and characters to suck me in. So far that's going ok, though the start is a bit slow.

I think it’s fair to say that all of our expectations were too high. I’m surprised that you feel the PC version hasn’t lived up to your expectations though. I thought the videos looked great. Bad times.

Again.. don't know how the base console version looks...BUT.. but.. How can anyone say that Cyberpunk's graphics on a PS4 PRO or PS5 are SUBPAR.. I just don't get it. What are the expectations here? Are you walking in the city.. seeing the architecture, the buildings, the colors, the neon? Is so goddam beautiful.. How can you say it has sub-par graphics? Sub-par compared to what?

The architecture and city is brilliant, and you can tell they designed it way above what previously consoles can handle, the only way they can handle it is making it run at 480p smear fest.

This is how someone else described it. "I've never before seen a game that looks so impressive and unimpressive at the same time".

Just looks soft and blurry to me on XSX (and PS5 from comparison videos I've watched). Witcher 3 looked better to me. Probably also that the art style just doesn't jive with me that much and I'm not a big sci-fi person.

But in general I'm just usually underwhelmed with graphics in huge open world games. The scope of them means they just can't look as mindblowing as smaller, more linear games like TLOU2, Gears 5 etc. Just is what it is and I mostly play them for the story, characters and questing and expect the graphics to be underwhelming to me. This just more so as it's so soft and blurry looking--though the next gen patch should improve that as the PC version does look MUCH better.

But definitely a to each, their own thing. If you're loving the graphics on console, more power to you. I'm not, but still enjoying the game. Just wish the next gen upgrade had been ready as it's nice to have it showing off the XSX/PS5 power as it's always disappointing playing last gen stuff on shiny new consoles. But just is what it is when one chooses to buy at launch when few next gen exclusives exist.

whats drivel here?

this game is by and large a last gen game with a few next gen bullets like Ray tracing bolted on.

it doesn’t represent anything close to the massive paradigm shift we’ve seen with ue5 or with technologies in the past such as PBR, deferred rendering pipelines, shaders, etc.

It’s last gen on steroids but by no means leverages many of the features were going to see as the gen gets started. Even if this was next gen only it still be held back by last gen development baggage.

It all depends on your expectations I suppose. Having played some great looking games on the PS5 recently, the drop in resolution is shocking. Not to mention the immersion breaking visual wobbles. I expected a drop in resolution, but didn’t expect it to look so blurry. I’m not dissing the game, because I’ve dropped my money on it, but I just feel that I should have waited because I’ve been spoiled by much better looking games. I’m really happy that you’re enjoying it though and artistically it does look really cool - I genuinely can’t wait for the next gen update, but I think I’m going to have to.

Cyberpunk is the first Next Generation Game letting people know it's time to get rid of those last gen toasters.

Because of those shitty systems the game did hit its potential and still looks amazing.

The games great on series x. I look forward to the next gen upgrade but for now this is more than fine.

All this game is saying is pc is the way forward, I need to join the master race. I've been a console peasant for far too long.

I'm gonna have to do a gta v npc comparison video because the NPCs are braindead too

"Next generation of open world games starts now" my ass

The open world in this game, while very detailed, is just window dressing for the missions in the game. It pretty much only exists for you to traverse through it.

The moment you try to interact with an NPC or do something other than travel from point A to point B it all falls apart.

This is not a game to do experimental free-roam in.
