C'mon guys, keep paying for the games passes they will never raise the prices astronomically when they will be able to do so and you will not have any other mean to play.

Why are people so dumb.

Gold should be free like on PC it costs barely nothing to the platform holder that is still making huge profits on it through the fees they receive for every game sold.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Imagine not just buying a Brazilian key from CDKeys or whatever and using a VPN to activate it. Shit's like $20 for 6 months and takes five minutes to do.

Paying to play online is a scam. It's a hidden cost that largely goes ignored when considering if consoles are better value products.

Then Xbox also has the audacity to charge you for propriety storage expansion.

Yeah, no thanks.
I absolutely agree...

Right up until crossplay became prevelent. That narrative that cheaters are extremely rare on pc, has been proven complete bs. If paying for either XBL or PSPlus gave you the option to exclude pc players, then the price would definitely be worth it. If both PSPlus and XBL doubled their price, I'd be pissed, but it'd still be worth it.

However, seeing as things currently are, with crossplay not always being an option... Paying for either XBL or PSPlus isn't worth it.

They can’t seriously be doubling the price with seemingly no explanation.

I guess on a technicality, they wouldn't be raising the price, just eliminating the discounts on longer terms. Does make GPU a better value in comparison. :messenger_smirking:

We'll just have to get used to being the premium service on the premium console. (Please don't do it MS, this is hard to spin as an Xbot)

The endgame game was/is pretty obvious to some already. Get user in the ecosystem, lure them while taking a loss. When you decide you have already lured enough - increase the price

In 5-10 years I could see Microsoft stop selling games all together and just have gamepass/netflix model so user can't own games and have to keep subscribing for low monthly price of $19.99. It is the direction they are going for.

This is such a

move.

It's highly unlikely a pro-consumer company like Xbox would do something like this.

This aged well

Possibly, plans changed. Maybe that was an option they were exploring 7 months ago. Often times when rumors leak, it from products and business plans that are in flight and subject to change.

Although if MS does double the price of Gold, I expect Sony to follow soon. Too much money left on the table (thankfully I subscribed through 2027)

Wait so is this official or are we still going on a random reddit post

It's hard to nail down actually because of the changes in xbox live in past year. No more 12 month subscription. Gamepass rolls xbox live into it. So I wonder if this is just short term. Also wonder if they make an announcement of gamepass in some form getting added on to any xbox live sub? The cards shown in reddit just say xbox live 6 month.

So until we here anything from MS themselves we are at the mercy of random retail screenshots honestly.

Is it confirmed MS removed the option to buy a year of Gold? Yes.

When? 12 months for $60 is and has been still available from all retailers. In digital form mind you. Keep in mind that MS would invalidate outstanding digital codes if they wanted to change the price, just like Sony did when they invalidated all digital codes from retailers. And many retailers sold out of these codes intermittently on BF, invalidating the silly "these are old codes" argument. Why repeat the same tired lies over and over again?

Not to say they couldn't remove the discounts for 6 or 12 month purchase, certainly they could.

@ ethomaz ethomaz that's not the way these digital codes work, LOL. There will be a small queue to ensure availability (why these get exhausted at points of above average sales) but the system is essentially real-time, just like phone top-ups etc. You don't have months and months of digital "stock" on hand.

Just a glimpse into the subscription dominated future so many of you think is a good idea....

Remember this when they put the squeeze on you and remember I warned you.

You'll own nothing... the companies will own you instead. Everything held hostage behind a subscription price that they control.
Bryan is absolutely right and ive been thinking this for a while, you see it happening with digital music already and its disgusting. Im not a fan of this model taking over in gaming because of the subsequent events bound to follow, if its a really cheap price quality and scale are bound to be cut back, Theres room and a place in gaming for indys and for tripple A I just dont think they can co exist long term without one suffering under a sub model.

Ill still treat those images as rumor but its common practice in retail to get new items and not officially list them or have them on the floor for sale yet.
