Gaming Revenue of the Big 4 *BIG PICTURE*

Based on my latest research(approximations of annual gaming revenue):

Apple ~ $40 billion(iOS gaming)
Sony ~ $28 billion
Microsoft ~ $17 billion
Nintendo $12 billion(actual latest number)

So even though Nintendo is KILLING IT right now, in the BIG picture scheme, everyone else is doing fine.

Just wanted to add a little bit of perspective to the situation, lots of DOOM threads around here.

How is apples calculated?

is that metric provided above the revenue they keep after giving developers their rightful cut or is it just a sum of all sales revenue on iOS before paying out operating costs and money owed to developers building the apps?

Nintendo has massive profits, they can maximize revenue with minimum efforts, their fans and customer base would buy anything, even a weird overpriced cardboard game.

Of course, Apple only gives 'Services' revenue which gaming is a part of. So the best other sites can do is estimate. But I think $40 billion/year for iOS gaming is very likely. Also the Sony/MS numbers are easy to find.

Apple Services include their music and video service as well as their cut for every transaction made through their store, right?

I can't imagine them making 40bn exclusively with games.

lol dude that’s my point.
Like 90% of that number is Apple Music alone. Then iCloud. I hate iCloud. I don’t need it. Somehow my wife needs it though cause I pay like $20 a month for it so she can store all of her videos and pics (which are the same exact activities and poses in the same places repeatedly). Point being, they’re making a killing on shit like that from guys like me. I bet gaming is like maybe a few billion out of that total figure.

there many many many more iphones out there than video game consoles.
By this logic it should be the big 5 (iOS, android, xbox, Sony and Nintendo) as they all delve into gaming.

the main difference however is only three of these are actual dedicated gaming platforms.

I mean, do you not remember the reaction when Diablo infernal was announced as a mobile game? Gamers don’t give a shit about mobile.

- iOS Gaming is not a thing, at least for now
- Nintendo is like 99,999999999% exclusive gaming, while Sony and Microsoft has a ton of stuff going on
- bitch, we need proof. We believe in those numbers, but if you do a research, you need to show shit

Since you think numbers matter to quality, didnt ROBLOX pass 2 billion and added 500 million in 6 months? They could literally take over "the big 3" in a couple yrs at that rate.

Well here's a source on the Sony numbers at least.

(I know, I know, it's REE, but it's sourced.)

I don't know but they get a big cut of every microtransaction and every game sold.

I'm not that interested in hunting down the financial statements from the various companies. I believe my #s are mostly correct. However, while Apple makes a lot of revenue from iOS gaming, they are not a factor in bigger games. Meaning A/AA/AAA games the way we understand them. Apple does not even have gaming studios at present. Even Google shut down what little game production they had going on.

So we're only truly left with Sony, Nintendo & MS as having extensive 1st party production. Given MS gaming revenue is 50% bigger than Nintendo, they are in good shape once the AAA exclusives start coming later this year starting with Halo.

Yeah you gotta think Nintendo’s profits might be higher in terms of percentage of revenue. Mario Kart 8 has sold 30 million and I imagine that games budget would be a lot smaller than Last of us 2 for example. This is all guessing though

Microsoft and Sony probably make a lot from micro transactions and services though and 3rd party takes.

suddenly apple is considered 'gaming company' lmao

if count iOS, should count android too
also steam
by that logic should add tencent on the list too.

only 3 of them has dedicated platform especially console. no use compared with mobile since that market is much much bigger. thats can be considered 'different' market than console/AAA game.

Nintendo is the only one out of the bunch who is almost exclusively a gaming company. I doubt Apple makes the majority of its revenue from ios gaming.

Did you honestly think Apple only makes 40 billion REVENUE and Microsoft only 14 billion for all its divisions? And you thought Nintendo (exclusively gaming) would be so close to them?

That first place is disgusting.
30% of mobile shitware adds up I guess, but seeing that Google does the same thing and has more market share, you have to wonder why the OP omitted them. Must be one of those Apple fans who thinks they are the only company and takes their anti consumer shit with pride.

iOS "gaming"
I mean a lot of people go outside. Many of them commute and when they do a lot of those people play games. Some people even go outside just to play augmented reality games.

Mobile gaming has come a long way and there's no reason for people to be insecure about it any more. It's ok to enjoy games on mobile devices.

Imma be honest, fam, mobile gaming is still, by and large, trash. Unoriginal reskins of the exact same games, the proper games ported generally have awful controls, it's very rare to find a good gem in that mass.

Thus I can understand why a lot of people still don't consider Mobile gaming to be "real" gaming.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
M$ gave up on selling consoles outside of USA, Nintendo fans should be furious they don’t have a new next gen system and a new Zelda games and SONY fans should feel important, PS5 has all the power in the world and has a seat at the table with the respected PC.
