Sorry guys, just had to vent
Awhile back I got gifted some N64 games, but I have no N64 to play them on. I had a Pokemon Firered game just lying collecting dust, so I solf that and got a bunch of stuff. A new SSD, a few 3DS games and I bought a Nintendo 64 of a craigslist sorta website where I live.

For 50 euros I bought a N64 with cables and power, and 1 controller. I figured that was a good deal, there were N64's going for a little higher but they had games which I didnt need.

Dude was supposed to send me the tracking number, now he never replies to my msgs anymore and his phone nr is off.

Ive not been scammed before, but this really fucking sucks. Not only am I not in the best financial position to spend willy nilly (which is why I sold my game so I would have some money to spend finally) and just in general being scammed fucking sucks. Now I have to go out and find abother N64, maybe Ill sell my Castlevania GBA double pack so I can buy another N64 from a more trusted seller.

Maybe it was my own stupid fault but I just hate this feeling

I feel for you man, however you live and you learn and this will be a good lesson going forward, sucks that you had to be scammed but sometimes these things help you in the long run as you'll know what signs to avoid going forward when purchasing goods online. Just be thankful it was only 50 euros you lost and not a much larger amount.

For what it's worth I hope it get's itself sorted out, am happy to try and help in anyway that I can brother, if I find any good listings from reputable sellers I'll link them your way.

OP I feel bad for you, had an issue a few years ago on ebay so I feel your pain.

In my area (Calgary AB) there's a used video games store I frequent and though it's a little pricey it's worth the $.

Videogames Trader. It's this incredible boutique where all the used stuff looks and plays new or newish. They also offer excellent trade value for good condition items with boxes and manuals. Seriously it's retro heaven!!! Collectibles and consoles that are hard to find, Panasonic Q, Turbografx 16, Neogeo... found them all there at one time or another.

So basically I stopped ordering some things online because these days it feels like more than ever people are just out to fuck us out of our hard earned $. And for the peace of mind these guys offer, top used games and hardware/collectibles... 30 day money back guarantee/trade value. It's just easier in the end.

I'm sorry for your loss man, hopefully you have a similar option where you live?

Bro,just get an emulator.

What you doing buying an n64?
Yeah the emulator isnt the issue its that I have a big collection of good N64 physical games that I got gifted which I wanted to at least check out

thx for the replies everyone, sadly paypal isnt widely used in my country for stuff like this. The guy basically lived 30 miles away from me and I dont have a car, so it wasnt really an option to pick it up. If I could I would have, I prefer doing deals like that.

I will just have to search for a different n64. Just stupid of me to deal with someone who just joined up on that site I guess. But yeah selling a n64 to scam someone I dunno it felt kind of weird to me as well, why not go with a more expensive item?

N64 emulation is still pretty rough. The obvious popular titles generally work but none of the available emulators even come close to the level of compatibility of something like Dolphin. And that's totally ignoring that some people like playing on real hardware with a CRT.

I feel you bro.

I could advise you against craiglist and buy somewhere else legit, more pricey.

Maybe we could all get together, track the bastard down, and get your money back in person

To clarify my first post, what I meant is: are there any compensation routes you can go down to reclaim what was lost, either with the site or your bank?

That sucks OP.

I don't do ebay as I only buy and sell stuff every couple years. I just do Craigslist or Kijiji. I've only bought things twice off people as I don't trust them. A bunch of hard to find DVDs for $20 and a table for $30. And both times they said just drive over to their house to get it.

I'd never buy electronics off a reseller unless the site has a buyer guarantee.

Don’t get it. For eBay use PayPal for buyer’s protection and look at seller reviews first.

For gumtree/Craigslist type websites it’s cash in hand/face to face only for me, and only after I’ve found an advert that looks legit, has clear photos and a good description.

Well that's terrible. I really don't buy second hand unless I buy from a seller directly. It's risky using sites like ebay to obtain these types of things.

Sucks man.

N64 emulation is kinda spotty as far as I know, plus nothing's quite the same as playing with an actual N64 controller.
N64 emulation was never better than now. We got huge compatibility progress the last years. Also I got around that problem with a mayflash adapter.

I now can play N64 (these days even in 4k and automatic wide-screen support) on my pc with a original N64 controller.

But I got you, sometimes you just want to get the original experience.

If you have his number, why not tell the cops?

Ofcourse I am going to report him, the adress listed is an industrial place though looking at it on google maps.

Sadly cops in The Netherlands dont really do much with a phone number or bank account number. The bank wont give out their personal information. Well, the cops wont ask the bank for it with one complaint.

What sketchy service did you use to do this transaction.
I just transferred funds from my bank, its from a craiglist sort of site. But in The Netherlands its pretty business as usual to pay first then the seller sends the item.

Well at least you have proof of purchase and maybe convo? And probably the cops can pay him/her a visit. They'd have the correct address associated with that phone number.

Actually, no, N64 was pretty much perfected last year. And the Nintendo info dump from a few months ago seem like it's going to result in a few more upgrades.

Instead of spending more money that you've said you don't have, MMaRsu MMaRsu , it might be worth your time to look into RetroArch.

Edit: Oop, I was beaten by Codiox above, I responded before reading the rest of the posts. In that case, I second trying new emulation options.

Kick up a fuss on the site. Report to the cops, complain to the bank, comment on his other ads, Google the username and stay on top of the guy. See if he's had older ads and learn what you can about the seller so you can track them.

Yeah they might get away with it but if you make it easy for them they'll just keep doing it to other innocent people like you.

FUCK THE SCAMMERS

Always use Paypal or something similar for items you cannot physically touch.
Yeah I bought a cell-phone through PayPal (obviously don't use "friends and family") from someone online who seemed reputable. They never sent the phone, but PayPal took care of it like a champ, believe the money was back in my account within a week after a 10 minute phone call. I learned my lesson AND kept my cash, which was nice.

I got scammed for an SNES on Yahoo Auctions back in the day. I still haven't forgotten about it or gotten rid of the person's home address who I bought it from. For some things, I hold lifetime grudges.

That sucks. You always gotta buy from people who sell a lot of stuff, because those are the people who care about their online reputation, those are the people that will do whatever they can to avoid getting a negative rating.
