This idea is probably being discussed on other topics already but I want to focus here, because I had to put this out and record a prediction.

This man is putting Dom Mattrick to shame, remember him?
How can a person be so fucking wrong? The Playstation always strived and blossomed by it's variety, the mix of East and West, combining Nintendo and Microsoft strengths. But then the PS4 happens, it's a huge success, the western studios shine and this imbecile thinks, "oh, this is our strong point, lets put all our chips in this!" and goes off killing everything else. What he is doing with Sony Japan is a capital sin, the focus on big AAA "western-style" games is a mistake, no one can "survive" playing just games like that. And now destroying the online store... instead of taking advantage of the celebrated Playstation catalog and making a lot of money at least to compensate from getting rid of the eastern studios, no, he wants to erase that past! Is he insane?! How can anyone even think about that? It's his answer to the backwards compatibility? Getting rid of the older games?

The way I'm seeing things going I'm willing to bet that this generation will become one of the biggest and most spectacular downfall stories of our time.
Nintendo's momentum will not stop, Microsoft can only grow and they are actually putting the effort to make this happen.
Sony is doing nothing besides trying to kill itself.

For a "sony fanboy" like me will be sad to see, but it'll be deserved.

This thread is the reason we are here reading Neogaf, and he is there in charge of PlayStation being CEO. He is doing an incredible job and he is making choices that will improve the company. If he was making bad decisions, PS5 wouldn't be as much in demand as it is.

Japan Studios hasn't produced anything successful in years. They were innovative and had great ideas, but business-wise, they haven't had a game that sold very well. Jim Ryan needs to take decisions based on profits and he can't let the company lose money. It is sad that things changed and that Japan Studio stopped being successful, but in no way will this "kill" PlayStation at the level Mattrick destroyed Xbox's reputation.

He is also making amazing deals with Japanese developers. PS4 has had amazing JRPGs and Japanese games in general, and this doesn't seem to be slowing down at all with PS5. There's also the chance of restructuring Japan studios again if there's a need in the future.

People are just jumping the gun way too fast.

He is doing fine. Xbox has just been improving, that is why you feel this way. He launched a wildly successful console in the middle of a pandemic. If Horizon/God of War/Naughty Dog all fail with their next games then you might have a point but relax. I will say that the 70$ price point is a point of contention for me and a lot of other gamers, but just because the competition is improving doesn't mean he is doing a bad job

While Sony are resting on their laurels and doing the things they claimed they wouldn't.

Cross gen first party games won't cut it in 2022.

This is going south real fast; I remember during august 2020, I was wondering WTF was Microsoft doing and was going to buy a PS5 because SONY really nailed it with the PS4, i had a huge grip with Microsoft because the 360 was a great succes (even with the RROD, obviously they had to fuck up somewhere...) i choosed the Series X only for the backward compatibility and Game Pass, because i will buy a PS5 down the line, it's not a question, the real question is : while waiting for next gen games, what system will offer me the best experience now, I'm a retro gamer at heart, I love to play all my old games, so you tell me I can do that AND have a boost in resolution and framerate ??? But wait ! The PS5 can do it with all past Playstation systems ! FULL compatibility, this is it, I'm gonna revisit all my old stuff with increased performance while new next gen games arrives...

And then it was canned, SONY back pedaled on this feature.

Looking back with the infamous E3 reveal of the Xbox One and the Dom Mattrick debacle on always online DRM vision they had, I still bought an Xbox one somewhere in 2014 before buying a PS4 (I'm not a fanboy, I play every systems only the games count for me) thinking " well they fucked up everything, now all they got left is the games, they got a shit ton of $ so they're going to go all in in exclusives and games...

It didn't happen, in fact we seeing this only now with the Series X/S and a little since the one X, with game preservation/retro compatibility, Game Pass, exclusives games from studios acquisition... Phil Spencer pushed this.

Who is to blame for the increased price-tag for new AAA games (70$) , the lack of retro compatibility and the censorship on other games and lack of game preservation on SONY's side? this Jim Ryan guy is?

2 games in the next 2 months next gen exclusive. You’re talking shite son.

A rip-off 70 dollar rogue like and what else?

Kena that I have pre ordered on PC for about $10 thanks to regional pricing?

The big name titles I actually purchased my PS5 in anticipation of are not coming out until next year and to boot they won't even be built around the new hardware because they are cross-gen despite all the "we believe in generations" bullshit.

I'm addition there's now also the possibility that those titles might even also come to PC.

Enjoy paying through the nose for Returnal I guess, if it's half the game Hades is you'll have a good time.

PS5 is off to a fantastic start. Dude is doing just fine so far. PS5's games both now and coming this year trounce the competitor's console. That's all I care about.

I gotta be honest...

I really miss shawn layden, andrew house and shuhei yoshida. They straight up steam rolled with the PS4
as I recall Layden was pretty hated on here too when he first took over from Jack Tretton, ditto with Tretton after he took over from Kaz

Kaz is still the only one who everyone seemed to love (which given he oversaw the PS2 gen makes sense)

Sony's revenue last year $25 billion was higher than both Nintendo and Microsoft combined. $11 and $12 billion.

Whatever they did in the ps4 era clearly worked so not sure why he's going around changing stuff.

If it ain't broken...

What will happen now is that we will have the usual cycle of people going around with their fingers in their ears pretending everything is hunky-dory.

Hopefully it doesn't take 5+ years of people pretending everything is ok before they snap out of it and/or quietly move on to other platforms. Don't be like those Xbox fans.

Sony will struggle, I was iffy about the Xbox PC integration but now that the long game is starting to unfold I can see where Xbox game pass, Azure server farms, Xcloud, OneDrive and Office 365 are all starting to come together.

Satella Nadella is a visionary and has completely changed Microsoft from the company that 10 years ago was almost destroyed by Balmer. The stock price reflects this.

Then u will realize how right he is.

Ratchet and clank in June. Whether you think it’s value or not isn’t the point. You said cross gen games until 2022 and you were wrong. So please be quiet.

I frequent these forums and had no idea other members felt Jim Ryan was potentially the downfall of the Playstation brand, what a refreshing thread.

Admittedly I did forget ratchet but the fact that I did despite it being so close to the release window says a lot.

The marketing team are obviously firing on all cylinders.

by applying recipes of early 2000-10 if you listen to them.
Sony is changing / adapting ....it's people creating those kind of thread who are struggling here.

the focus on big AAA "western-style" games is a mistake
Aren't people blowing Xbox because it just bought Bethesda?

Sony is making tons of money. They are slowly releasing new games for their new console. Yes management is changing. Do you honestly think The Last Guardian and Days Gone are so good they should never change what they are doing?

I don't get all the freak outs. Maybe I am not a super fan and clued into these narratives or whatever. You want this guy removed? Why don't we wait and see what kind of next gen games we have in store?

Feel like people need to go back and read history. Console launch first years are usually not very good. Need to take a chill pill for real.
