Do they really need more studios?
23 should be enough if they have a decent release schedule between each other.
If they want to release a game every quarter, and the studios are on 4yr cycles, then you would need 16. RPGs take longer so the studios making them are not included. If they have 5 studios making RPGs on 5yr cycles they could also add an RPG a yr to their release schedule taking them to needing 21.

Add in the outlier studios that are still building up but have ambitious projects like Undead labs, and yeah, you can see why they want to have more to feed the gamepass machine

I don't want this to happen but the meltdown from this happening would almost be worth it.

Meltdowms? More like excuses - Bluepoint? Pff, they just make ports and remakes, never their own games, no talent at all. Kojima? LOL, did this dude made any good game even once? FromSoft? LMAO, games with fake difficulty, who even plays that. You know, stuff like that, from the usual suspects. But yeah, either way it would be interesting to see the aftermath if such acquisitions happened, that's for sure.

Yes games need to chart on games pass dude so therefore you can get an idea of what the forecast looks like for DLC and shit since y’all games aren’t gonna sale since it’s on gamespass day 1!

you have dev costs like halo infinite that’s over $500mil (rumored)

Marketing which would be another $100mil
And so on!

that’s just one game dude we can go into the $7.2bil acquisition and I’m sure that’s not counting funding for fames that are in dev right now that you may or may not see this gen!

So tell me if this was outta your own pocket, how many games would have to sell and how many subs would you need to just recoup that to break even?

it was debunked halos Dev cost a longggg time ago.

games are still selling.

look at free to play games like fortnite, they give the game away and still make a fortune.

You idiots cheering for MS to buy up all the studios aren’t going to be so happy when game pass is the only way to play anything and it costs $60/month. That is their endgame.

Xbox or PlayStation has that FORTNITE game so let’s leave that out!

so what games are selling on Xbox bro right now that are on game pass as well

I don’t remember, were there no rumors at all?
Anyway I can’t even guess, the ones I want are already taken or has signed publishing deal already.
The rumor was of an acquisition no context. Kind of like how we are right now. No idea who the new studios are.
Yah at this point there are no other studios I care if your acquire but I’ll support because it makes accessibility to the games easier

Undeniable at what? At the end of all this they’ll be publishers bro! With data caps that don’t make sense and people internet not equipped to handle streaming, they’re a long ways off from being where Sony and Nintendo are!

Let’s see who these studios are first as like I said before, it’s gonna be next gen before you really get to see what these studios are doing exclusively and y’all don’t buy games anymore like y’all used to on Xbox so therefore those gamepass numbers have to be close to if not more than 100mil at full price
Somebody’s cranky.

I want Moon Studio and Asobo to get more funding but pretty confident it won't be the latter. IO could be interesting but sure the James Bond game will be multiplatform.

I’d rather they’d acquire and revive some dormant IPs/licences and hand them to the Coalition , Playground, Rare etc . Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, X-Men, Road Rash etc .

Yeah the last bit is so true, MS opening the wallet means better games on Xbox but also on PC = great! (Just managed to get a 3070ti btw, not the 3080ti I originally wanted but for nearly half the price and I’m at least in a slightly better situation now than with my 4yo 1080 ti)

what’s the obsession with sales? It’s a different strategy. If people want gamepass then can have it, if people want to buy the game they can.

it’s all about choice.

have you worked out how much gamepass generates each month?

Moon signed with Private Division for their Action RPG, who knows when that one will be ready and what they want to do next. I’m ready to cut the cord and accept that we won’t see another Ori this gen.

One is a deliberate studio restructure to diversify the publishing arm and change focus (ASOBI), the other is a sign of troubled development. I don’t think you know how this comparison stuff works.
nah if there troubled studio, they would have been shutdown.

people leave and go. game journalist make a big deal. you guys eat up.

should the higher who are working at 343 not pursue other jobs? why activation people go to another company? why did god of war people went to the initiative? The industry is changing ,and everyone want to go gain different experience. But that is hard for you to swallow.

also Jason would have written an article by now about it. This is the same dude who made last of us 2 a big deal. he wont shut up about halo.

Halo Infinite didnt cost $500 million lol. People think game developers get paid a lot of money but recently they all went on twitter and most of them were making $60k or less. I wouldnt be surprised if the average salary is below $100k at most of these studios. Only senior programmers and senior level designers make $100-150k.

We know how much the first three Uncharteds cost. $20 million. ND had around 150 developers back then. We know how much GoW3 cost. $44 million. They had a little over 200 developers but they took an extra year to make GoW compared to ND with U2 and U3. So if 150 developers cost $10 million per year then we can assume that TLOU2 which had 300 developers and three years of full production likely cost $20 million per year for a total of $60 milliion. Lots of outsourcing goes on nowadays but its relatively cheap since its done in poor developing countries. Lets assume it's another $20 million. That's $80 million for TLOU2.

Now 343i has a lot more employees. 750 according to wikipedia. Using ND logic, we are looking at $50 million per year for 6 years. I do remember them being around 450 a few years ago, but lets leave out the outsourcing costs and just do a flat 750 devs * 6 years and $300 million. Very high but not even close to $500 million. And it's a year late so it wouldve been $250 million back when that stupid estimate came out.

P.S Halo 3 cost $35 million back in the day and had a $40 million marketing budget. Not sure how many employees were at Bungie at the time, but when Bungie went to Activision they had around 500 employees.

You really have to question the management over at 343i. They are making exceedingly mediocre games and taking an insane amount of resources and time to get them done.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Bout time they start getting cutthroat. You play to win the game. You don't play to just play it.

When you go for the kill you don't hold back

All their games will be available un numerous platforms and devices. Its only the sony obsessed tribals who shackle themselves and worship that stupid Jap company that are missing out.

Definitely not Sega seeing that's a big publishing house with a lot more studios than 3.

I can see IO Interactive and Crytek.

The new engine for the next 10 years and beyond, the game development of 6 years, the marketing budget, the live service costs over the next years
At the end of the day Halo Infinite will cost $500m for sure.

What, 15m full paying subs is 175m per month. Should cover nicely the wages and running costs of all their studios. I don't think that Microsoft are propping up gamepass as much as people are hoping they are.
Where you been? Under a rock? They gave there annual reports or whatever and even admitted it’s not even making money with the service! Either that or from the recent court case this was exposed!

Calm down kiddie. I wasn't attacking you. So cut the shit.

I don't recall reading about their sub numbers. If that was the case, why are these threads still full of people speculating on how many subs they have and how much they are making. Obviously you can link the pertinent docs so we can finally stop the gamepass speculation.

Yes, I'll be very happy if more games will come to GP, even for 60$ which is less than all those 70€ games with either just SP or MP. Wonder what's the end game in those ones is, 100€ for just the opening credits and main menu?
