TAKE TWO - I salute you

Take Two I just watched your E3 games show, I'm moved to write this reply. Wow, bravo, I am amazed by your virtuosity.

After over a year of your community suffering from the global pandemic, isolation, stress, financial uncertainty I expected you to give them a reward, a glimmer of hope for the entertainment future, a sneak peak at a next gen game. But no.

It would have been easy to show games though, give your audience the excitement, pleasure and entertainment that you have become so successfully wealthy from. But instead you didn't choose the easy route, you took the high ground (It's over Anakin, I have the high ground!). You went above and beyond and educated us on your private hiring process, an inside look at your day to day office HR process, an invaluable insight for your loyal fans.

Your conference will be a hard show to follow, however tomorrow we still have Nintendo. Let's hope they saw your conference and took note. Because for all of Nintendo's positive points one thing they are lacking is your bravery in diversity.

I can only begin to imagine how great BOTW would/could have been if they only embraced diversity.

Had Mario Odyssey not being created by a room of Japanese guys working together in sync but by some blue haired trailblazers educating and diversifying we may have seen the elusive 100% metacritic.

We can only hope and pray that Nintendo has finally embraced this diversity and tomorrow, Miyamoto San enters the (virtual) stage wearing a princess peach dress and wig and declares to the world he is finally out as a brave transgender woman.

Perhaps then, finally we will see some great (culturally relevant) games from the big N.

I raise a glass (of chilled organic free range soy milk) to you Take Two. Bravo

When they announced that they were going to do a live panel on diversity and inclusion, I thought they were joking. Or maybe I just hoped it was a joke. At least it was good to see viewership numbers plummet as this drivel came on.

It's because of events like this that it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep discussion on games and politics separated. There are forces in play that politicize games. This panel, during one of the most popular and anticipated events for the gaming community, proves as much.

The YouTube likes to dislikes tells the story - 500 likes, 5,000 dislikes.

If they want diversity why won't they help those all black teams who can't get their games published? Oh wait they don't care about that they care about checklists intersected with lgbt, supposedly, but do it in such an aggressive way it makes everyone there look bad.

I don't think Take Two will realise that though. Even with the dislike ratio. They'll blame it on whatever.

Let’s be real, they only care about ticking these checkboxes in the eyes of the retarded public. This is why they had this panel. When push comes to shove, they’re going to prioritize the most qualified over anything else. This is 100% a publicity stunt and nothing more.

When we said we wanted behind the scenes we didn’t mean the hiring process lol.

We knew what we were getting and Take Twos business model silence.

Is that the show where I tuned in for a minute and they were talking about diversity and such........but not games? Maybe that wasn't Take Two. Not sure.

Whatever that shit was, I turned it off. If I wanted to talk politics, I wouldn't be yapping on neogaf, that's for damn sure.

They probably just look at all the retweets by people that won't buy their products anyway as a measurement of success.
Those dislikes are from the “silent majority”; which is most Americans who don’t bother speaking out on any of these matters but will instead voice their protest indirectly instead.

All of those people on the panel are the exact same people in a project that do nothing but still get the same grade as those who actually contributed.
FYI for those of you entering the workforce, they still exist and occupy HR positions and defend them by calling you racist or sexist when you ask them what the fuck they actually do here.

Here's my take. I don't care who you are or what you look like. I don't care if you're gay, straight, whatever the fuck. DO YOU HAVE THE SKILLS NEEDED TO CREATE GAMES OR NOT. Hire based off of your skillset, not a fucking quota. This is essentially how I was raised. Thanks.

Also, their conference is more suited for GDC than E3 personally.

Why is diversity even such an issue with software / technology companies. Has anyone ever seen inside a development studio or lecture theatre of a programming class? It's diverse as fuck. Maybe these kids need to get their heads out of their asses and look at what's inside a games development studio, it's not as white as their SJW asses would like to think.

Receipts: I'm a minority with an IT degree and have worked in software for 15 years across about 10 different companies (I used to do consulting hence the large volume).

Im wrestling with retiring from gaming lol and this e3 plus take two didnt make me feel like i was being crazy for thinking gaming was going in a less than steller direction xD

If anything it justified my feelings lol

Don’t be so sure of this.

Someone wanted me to apply for an IT manager position and that I should definitely do it because they’re on the hiring panel and I don’t know why but I couldn’t be assed to submit my resume.

I find out later they just wanted someone Black in the position and to “uplift” them. I guess my 10 years of experience in the industry, personality, expertise etc meant nothing more than optics and its not like I couldn’t notice.

Why the persistence in offering me 180k and dangling it in my face? Apparently they even held off on interviewing people for a month because they thought I was coming. Then another Black person got the position with experience that doesn’t at all say “I can manage an entire global companies IT presence”

One hand, I would’ve loved the money. On the other knowing I’m not some companies magical diversity negro is worth way way more than money.

I fucking hate that shit man. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Having something like that dangled in front of your face and you don't even get the position? FUCKED UP.

Same thing happened to me. Been at my company for a long time. For the 3rd time, they've hired from the outside considering I've had the most experience (lots of turnover) and the current person doesn't know what they're doing.

Shit sucks man.

What about the rumoured Avenger XCOM game? I was so baffled that they didn't show any games at all but some guys were Zoom chatting?

Should have been looking to jump ship after the second time. Whatever industry you're in when you see that shit happening you're never getting that promotion and by staying you're letting them know they can pass you over and you'll still stick around.

I'm in contracting. I'm currently on the hunt for a new gig. Kinda hard to pass up a decent salary and very short commute.

Why did they even do this? In case they forgot; E3 stands for electronics entertainment expo. The place to show off games and hardware. It's an expo for those in the industry to show off products to the consumer to build interest and sell those products.

I understand this issue may be important to them and the industry as a whole, which is why it should've been discussed at GDC. Doing it at E3 is a complete misread of the event and its crowd, and also comes off as disingenuous since you aren't speaking to those actually in the industry calling the shots.

Here you go, 12 minutes of torture for your viewing pleasure:

Nothing. Literally nothing happens.

Good thing they don't have audiences this year.

I think this is what happens when you appoint a "Director of Diversity" at your company. They suddenly have a full-paying job and they have to do something to earn that money. Our old company set up a "diversity & inclusion team" within the HR department and I fucking swear they would just come up with non-existent problems in order to make e-learning materials about them.
