Nintendo E3 Direct 6/15 (40 minutes)

First Microsoft shat the bed… Now Nintendo. Garbage E3. Wow.
At first I thought Microsoft's show was kinda weak, but thinking about it they have 3 AAA games coming in the next months: Flight Simulator (already on PC, but super heavy), Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. Nintendo have a 2.5D Metroid, which is nice, but not at the same level, and Zelda is "aiming for 2022". The rest I don't care about.

Pretty much comes down to taste in games and the trailers. I felt Nintendo had a more enjoyable show for the most part and I liked the games. From the Microsoft conference the only game I would possibly buy would be the psychonauts game although Forza did look impressive.

Good e3 for me. Mario Party the Top 100 for the Switch Lite with online play. 😛 Interested in all the games they announced. Kazuya in Smash is pretty sick. Nintendo did not disappoint.

Meh, not terrible but not great.

- SMTV looks freaking great. Though sadly it was the only game I was planning on buying on Switch this year before the direct....and it's still the only one after the direct.
- Metroid didn't look very good IMO. Take Samus out and it looks like another run of the mil indie Metroidvania that probably wouldn't even get a thread around here.
- Advance Wars was unexpected. I'm glad the franchise is back and I might pick it up depending on the price, but I liked the older art style better. It used to be cartoony wars, now they look like toys.
- BotW2 looks great, but a proper trailer would have been nice. This looked like some random Broll footage they stitched together

Where are the new 1st party games? Kind of feels like everything is in development hell at Nintendo, or I don't really understand what's going on.

(I don't count Dread since it's not internally developed.)

IMO they are probably holding them back until they need them.
Switch is selling like crazy with the games they currently have. The bigger stuff will be shown and released either when they see a dip in sales or when they have new hardware to push.

I think Nintendo really slowed down a lot during COVID. Japan is still suffering from it as well, so they probably lost 6 months just due to the adjustments they had to make from the pandemic.

Absolutely gutted no switch Pro news.

I had the switch on launch and sold it after 6 months due to not using with job change.
Now a switch would be great for me but I refuse to buy one when it's so old at this point and still full rrp.

Was hoping for a switch Pro by Xmas and then catch up on games I've missed and the benefits of newer tech.

I already have a wii u for Fatal Frame, and I can play it uncensored there... Not really interested in anything else except Metroid. And well I think it looks ugly, should've made a 2d game, with a 2d artstyle. I'll play it anyways, but compared to other 2D Metroid games it doesn't have the same visual appeal. Plus getting some 2D game while we are still waiting for MP4 feels insulting. Especially when SMTV got a release date, they were announced really close to each other, so where the hell is MP4?

I can see why people though it was good, had a few big names, and a couple nice ports. My taste just isn't with a lot of Nintendo's games, and stuff like FF and Danganronpa I enjoy, but I all ready played them both on other consoles. So for me personally it was a really weak E3 presentation.

Not much for me. I only own a switch and while I acknowledge the variety of games, it felt like an overall weak showing. We needed things like Donkey Kong, Mario Kart etc... More unannounced heavy hitters. Those were absent. Let's hope that Nintendo is keeping some surprises for the upcoming switch pro.

Didn't catch the show, but judging by the comments it doesn't that I missed much.

Worst E3 of all time?

Looks like a must play title almost, excellent work

They seem conservative about showing too much. I know there is more to see for BOTW’s sequel after two additional years of work going into the installment but they chose to keep it still largely a mystery with minimal details given

It’s difficult to even say if BOTW’s sequel will actually release in 2022 or receive additional development time and release Q1 in 2023 because Nintendo has shown so little of it still

Switch in general has provided us a steady stream of great releases. Nintendo seems to go at their own pace now from what I have observed. When I bought the Switch at the end of 2018 there was a lot of good games to play after two years into its generation. SSBU just came out. Later a Yoshi game came out. Fire Emblem: Three Houses then released after. Link’s Awakening Remake. Then came the next Paper Mario game. Just from what I have noticed, the great releases all have been periodic and dispersed well. I mised the first two years into Switch, but every year has had great releases. That’s my take anyway

Any suggestions what to do with an unopened excitement preparedness kit? Just save it for next year? Or send it back to Nintendo?

Lots of quality announcements for sure but nothing that warrants an E3 Hype.

That said I can't wait for the Super Monkey Ball collection, Advance Wars remastered, Mario Golf, Metroid Dread and even SMTV (never played any of those games but the one they showed on this direct looked so so good). Shame BoTW2, Bayo 3 and MP4 still seem years away though.

So after this conference I'm buying Metroid dread still got to buy Pokemon shining Pearl and The legend of Zelda skyward sword HD and on the Xbox side there's so many game on Gamepass I want to play. I'm honestly set for the rest of the year.

i thought new switch reveal was set in stone?

what happen to switch pro??
why delaying the announcement
They specifically said no new hardware at E3. They said the same thing in 2019 and Lite got announced

The majority of Nintendo's first party games are developed in collaboration with other teams, and that has almost always been the case.

Not the main Mario, Zelda, etc, games. What's the Mario team doing? Odyssey was a few years ago now...

I thought the presentation was ok. I'm glad to see Warioware and Fatal Frame being brought back even though I never played those games.

I'm happy we're getting a demo soon for Monhun Stories 2 (june 25), that way I can see if it still has simple combat like the previous game.

Metroid Dread looks quite good and I'm interested in seeing people speedrun it.

I'll probably buy Danganronpa v3 on switch. I played the first 2 on vita and I like the handheld form factor.

Advance Wars... it's cool they're bringing it back but doesn't the original art style look better?

The Zelda part of the presentation wasn't what I wanted. I guess I was hoping for something bigger for Zelda's anniversary. Please release some good MyNintendo rewards at least!

So ugh where is the reveal of the Nintendo Switch Pro and so many other reveals that these self-proclaimed leakers talked about that was supposed to be on E3? See this why I don't rely on leakers even if it turned out to be true.

They only did that with Botw2. But like they have to have something for the first half of next year as well. I figure they should have 1 or 2 big Nintendo games for early next year.

We know they have Pokemon Legends in January. Splatoon 3 is probably in the first half since they announced it early this year. We'll definitely get at least a couple more winter/spring games announced in the September Direct and a few more summer games announced in the February/March Direct. Nintendo's announcement pattern has been pretty consistent during the Switch era, if you ignore the way COVID completely fucked them up in 2020.

Yeah, I figured that was going to be how they did it but was just hoping that they would have some type of third party Japanese exclusive for me to get hyped over and wait for news on for forever :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_loudly_crying:. I figured most of the Japanese companies got really messed up by covid versus those in the west.

Pretty good show, the sequel to BOTW is looking great. Based off what was shown in the reveal, game must be 60-70% finished is my guess

No Zelda games outside of Skyward Sword being ported to Switch is a huge surprise though. Nintendo essentially did nothing to celebrate. Two of the three Zelda games on that game and watch device are already on NSO subscription

I have to think, if they are planning something like that, they don’t want it to overshadow Skyward Sword and BotW 2 - and they HAD to show BotW 2 this E3.

There is a chance they can announce something for the holidays, since right now they have no holiday lineup whatsoever. Expect a late August/early September Direct to take care of the holiday lineup with some new announcements and surprises.

Yeah I agree. Is a new Switch not coming out this year and is instead pushed to 2022 for the launch of BOTW2?
I’m just thinking out loud. Haha. But I’m sad 😞.

not tag worthy
I'm going to wait for that Treehouse Gameplay Segment in a sec. Trailer looks like a 3DS game that got upped to Switch Game last second. Even the sounds sound like Handheld/DS-esque.
I so hope I'm wrong, I love the Metroid Series.
It most likely was. But hopefully all devs can work in the switch.

+Metroid Dread
+SMTV
+Fatal Frame port (they mentioned new costumes too, wonder if we're finally getting the removed swimsuits?)
+BotW2
+Metroid Prime 4 (just glad they didn't cancel it)
+Mario Golf
+Mario Party
+Wario Ware
+Cruis'n Blast
+Hyrule Warriors DLC

-Hate the new artstyle of Advance Wars remake

Overall, Nintendo destroyed every other E3 presentation, MS was a distant second and they're both towering over the other presentations which were some of the worst (and not even entertainingly bad) of all time.

Quick question, anyone know what that song is that's playing during the Guardians of the Galaxy part of the direct? Is it a real song or just some royalty free song? I liked it a lot, it reminds me of old Guilty Gear music.

Nintendo's showing wasn't bad, but it probably says something that I was most interested in the Japanese stream's glimpse of the next Super Robot Taisen game and that three CAVE shooters are coming as downloads to Switch. Otherwise, Metroid Dread was a surprise, but I don't particularly care for Mercury Steam and something about what was shown of the game currently has me on the fence (I guess it doesn't help I find the graphics & art direction to be extremely sterile).

weird that no more heroes 3 didn't show up. It is suppose to release later this year I thought.

This surprised me too. Figured it would at least be in a sizzle reel or something. It's only two months away, so it won't be in the September Direct. Maybe we'll get gameplay during the Treehouse if we're lucky.

Yeah, it's coming in August. It's not published by Nintendo, AFAIK and they have showed it quite extensively lately. I'm sold on it already, though so no big problem for me.

I suspect we won‘t see another 3d Mario and Mario Kart until the Switch successor. Same for Metroid Prime 4. I also wouldn‘t be surprised if BotW 2 becomes a launch title for their next system (though it will be cross-gen), just like BotW 1 and Twilight Princess. I think Botw 2, Pokémon Arceus and Splatoon 3 will be the last ‚AAA‘ games from Nintendo on the Switch, tbh (at least as far as internally developed games are concerned).

Looking forward to Metroid Dread and surprisingly enough Mario Golf. I'm sure the Direct didn't deliver everything people were hoping for, but, it showed why the Switch keeps selling the way it does.

A very “meh” showing. There was some good stuff offcourse but most of the stuff did not appeal to me. Over the years my wife basicly took over ownership of my switch. I will steal it back for botw2 but thats about it.
