Halo Infinite graphical comparison 2020 2021

I have to agree. A lot of people are drawing their own conclusions that not showing the campaign at E3 means that it will be terrible. I tend to think that it just wasn't ready (and they will show it soon) or that they simply wanted to focus on the multiplayer. I'm not of the opinion that it's a disaster and that 343 are afraid to show the finished product.
I think they just didn't want to have people focus on comparing the two too much and missing the whole package which is why they showed off multiplayer more. They're saying "see it does look better and here is an aspect you haven't seen before".

The simple truth is that the game is basically going to look the same just cleaner than it did a year ago.

Can,'t really say the difference on my mobile phone. Up or downgrade?

I see a downgrade

The fact that they brushed over the single player aspect and only showed a vista that looked in no real way an improvement over last year makes me think this game won't be getting the visual upgrade many people might be expecting.
Looks better, but the baseline is so low.

It's clear from E3 that Microsoft don't have full confidence in the game.

Yeah, sure, that’s exactly what they did. They delayed it for a year, sat on their collective arses, sucked their thumbs, and spun around on their spinny chairs.

Behave yourself.
As per Joe Staten the game was already "content complete" and he played through the whole campaign when he joined(around August 2020). If nothing changed until now, then they have literally sat in their chair for more than a year.

Hey I'm just looking at the screens in the OP.

I can't even tell which is supposed to be before and which is supposed to be after.

So yes, they may as well have put the game in the hands of fans, even Phil buried this by putting it in the middle of their E3 show - sandwiched in between a plethora of games that not only looked better but showed a lot more promise.

I hope this game doesn’t turn out to be a plate of steaming hot shit. I’d be neat to be hyped about Halo again.

It was only missing proper lightning eh Digital Foundry?

I'm glad series X owners are getting a great halo game but my god was that a laughable statement.

Material updates, light response to materials, surfacing details and contrast, muzzle flare interacting with the guns, general image quality, pop in reduction... Looks great.

Hope they detail more on RT if that's still in the works.

In some aspects it looks better and in some aspects it looks worse. The older shots look more crisp but the new ones seemed to have add some finer details.

Textures and lighting seem to have gotten an upgrade, but it's still miles away from the level I'd expect from a flagship IP with such a giant budget behind it.
343 should ask the FH5 guys for help, those seem to know what they're doing.

I SHAT on this game hard when it was revealed last year , and I'm glad they proved me wrong and it looks incredible now. Not the HUGE next gen knock out but its undeniably gorgeous, the art style is powerful and I am very happy if this is the final product. Once they add ray tracing next gen it's gonna change things big time

They clearly need more time, but it's definitely not shit anymore.

Would be fun if they showed the updated model of Craig.

I have noticed I see you in every single xbox thread trying to derail.
Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time?
It's really quite sad.
Focus on the things you enjoy, you'll be a lot happier, as you just come across as really bitter.

I'm discussing the topic and giving my opinion. If you don't like my opinion and you are incapable of having a discussion then quite frankly, tough shit.

Do you want me to lie and say I see a big difference when I don't just to make you feel good?

This is not producing what I'd expect from a flagship title and yet again it's showing was underwhelming. The reaction games like flight sim and Forza Horizon are getting is what they should be striving for, especially with the amount of time and resources they've thrown at it.

Halo fans chomping at the bit for another Halo will no doubt find reasons to be excited but I'm not seeing it being talked up outside of that circle.

P.S. If you want to discuss me rather than halo then it is you who is derailing the thread.

You speak the truth.

Also, I preferred the original suit... The rest seems like a few tweaks.

I don't see what some people see to it, my guess is that they see what they hope it would be.

Original suit looked fantastic, but was way too clean and perfect for someone who was just literally left for a dead in a floating field of space debris.

Right it’s just People just love to shit on Microsoft, the game is looking good. People just assume the campaign is gonna have mind blowing graphics when no open world game has that. The multiplayer looks too amazing.

this should be interesting to compare since i can think of barely a single scene that was in both showcases, with the same lighting

EDIT: Confirm, in the age of Digital Foundry we're supposed to not be literate in the difference lighting makes to cinematics? :p See: Alex B's infamous Infinite analysis

2:29 "This floor is beautiful"

And yet, it's not, it appears to be rife with LOD and overlapping textures... But it's been stated in big white letters so it's now undeniable?

EDIT 2:

I think this video misses the point largely. Yeah, 343 has made big progress, but it's more in the realm of detail, stability, cutting out anomalies and iterating on some textures. It looks way better, but it isn't a particularly large jump. I just hope the rest of the game, outside this piddly cinematic, has had a ton of progress made on it.

Definitely feel safe in knowing they're being given time to do this, not going the Cyberpunk route... But this is clearly gonna be one of those games, like driveclub for ps4, that were meant to be launch titles but ended up being pretty subheadings a few years later.

I hope I can wear the non junk version of chief's armour. The clean and new model looked great to me.

Actually, it'd be awesome to find weapons with different levels of wear. Although probably too expensive for the gain.

I suspect this will be an addition that comes later via their regular 10 year long span of updates.

Well, it's better than before. I imagine it will take seeing the actual campaign game to be really impressed.

Doesn’t look like shit is a pretty low bar.

No one being objective is going to be impressed - it's going to look fine but that's about it. They've had a year - that's not enough time to overhaul anything, but it is enough time to actually finish the graphics which clearly were no where near release quality last year.

I'm just being honest here, it still looks really poor for something that is supposed to be anchoring a new console as powerful as the XSX while also launching on PC's in 2021/22. It looks even worse than Killzone Shadowfall did during the launch of PS4. And I'm not typing that to be controversial - like for real, or looks worse than KZ SF.

The next time people tell you to "stop nitpicking" or "stop worrying about graphics" or "it's fine dude," send them to this thread.

Always SPEAK up and demand better. The internet did Microsoft a service last summer
I don't do it often but I 100% agree with you.

No one should just accept any companies missteps/BS/shitty polices/excuses etc and defend them because they are your preferred console or publisher.

don't campaigns typically look better than mplayer versions anyways. mplayer already look good imo so it should only be better.

I thought it looked like a joke last year and very nice now.

But its interesting how little has actually changed and what a huge difference a few minor adjustments can amount to.

I coulda lived with the graphics from before - but it’s about what I expected as an upgrade. Not crazy better looking but reduced pop-in and everything feels much more solid/in line with the art style. I actually am really into it, looks very clean to me.

The game needs Per Object Motion Blur like nobodies business.

Hopefully singleplayer will have a few more visual niceties and more post post processing effects.

Also the explosions still look god awful, more like paint cans exploding than the bright neon explosions of Halo.

Outside of that, great texture work improvements and Screen Space Shadows, so I'm happy so far.

Original suit looked fantastic, but was way too clean and perfect for someone who was just literally left for a dead in a floating field of space debris.
I was under impression that the new dirty suit was some batman arkham style armor degradation (especially considering the new story lead is from the arkham shit) that we'd see across the campaign, but im pretty sure that clip was near the start of the game so it must be a redesign.

The trees and the landscape sure looked the same to me 😬

Can't wait to see if they've done anything about the shitty animation, character models and the face of that dude from the ending of the last trailer.

Honestly it looks good enough for me. Ok, it isn’t the best looking game ever, but its hardly the worst, very far from it. There were obviously a few factors to why it looks the way it does and that is being built to run on an Xbox One on the low end and also targeting 120fps on the high end, it’s a pick your poison kind of situation for the devs and this is the poison they picked.

As a Halo and Xbox fan, I am pretty disappointed they decided to support the old gen versions as they seem to be doing it as marketing strategy like “look we care about backwards and forward compatibility!” But I feel like it’s dampened the launch and made the game lesser than what it could’ve been.

I’m not going to complain though, I’m sure like most Halo games the MP will be fantastic and having a series X, a 120fps monitor and no real good MP games to play, I’m fucking excited for it graphics be damned.

I favour gameplay > graphics at the core anyway so if they nail that it’s all that matters to me. Enjoy your games people, they might not last forever.
