I bought PS5 from scalper (just for system-seller Ratchet & Clank) and here is funny thing about it...

Op, after buying from a scalper, and trying to share his story here.

We scheduled meeting with scalper around his apartment in the center of the city, and he came out to me wearing an uniform of big media retail chain.
He gave me the PS5 and I paid, and since it was obvious he got out for a break from work just to sell me the console he scalped, he explained that each time there is new shipment of new consoles coming, all of the workers of this retailer split all the consoles between them and sell with great profit.
Man, I hate it, this should stop but now it makes sense why there is barely any console available at the original price.

Was it Best Buy? They did the same thing with the PS3.
No, but I don't want to say the name.
If you “hate it” you wouldn’t be buying off a scalper. The problem is not the scalpers, it’s the people willing buy from them. It’s just a video game console… Ratchet & Clank will be perfectly playable in a year.
True, I just couldn't resist this time :/

Well, I don't know why would anyone lie about what just happen, but to be more trustful I can show the photo of my PS5, but yeah I could have it before, so here is my account in playstation network with just RnC in library.

Actually, it takes all parties to create the "problem". It all just comes down to supply vs demand.

I got my consoles legit. But, had I not, I'd had paid whatever it took to play Demon's Souls Remake on day one.

A year of time with the PS5 is worth more than a few hundred bucks.

It's sad how desperate they are just to pick up a couple of extra hundred bucks on a per unit basis. They might want to focus more on education, skill and career development than being low level scalpers. It will be far more profitable and beneficial in the long run.

Enjoy your console. Returnal and Demon's Souls Remake are both must-plays imo. Spider-Man too if you haven't already played it on PS4.

Sony should really stop to supply via retailers and give the ps5 just to people who has an active membership on psstore. At least until the stock situation is not fixed. I'm extremely piss off to see so many scalpers and crazy prices on ebay with Sony do nothing about it. Can't be believe I can't get one yet regularly.

If you want to stop it,report him to his employer, that's awful!
Employer might be in on it, thats how shit like this get pass, someone in management is getting a cut of the scalped markup.
Go to a journalist and give them the info so they can do an investigation and go public with the info.

No one said that they don't believe you have a PS5. But there is a certain part in your story that sounds like bollocks. I have pointed out in my previous post which part that is.

And that part adds to the anti-sony fanboy conspiracy theory that says that the reason the PS5 sells is due to scalpers which is one of the saltiest and stupidest things i've heard.

Yep, this is just naturally going to happen when supply cannot meet demand. The price rises. Welcome to capitalism. I don't blame people who buy from scalpers one bit, it's their money and if they feel it's worth it they are free to spend as they wish.

Are retail stores which sell the consoles/graphic cards/whatever for 2x or 3x the price considered scalpers?

I mean, does a legitimate, supposedly legal store have a right to sell a product for more than its 'market's worth'?
We had a few stores here in Sarajevo that were selling PS5 at (equivalent of) 900€. Totally legit stores. 🤡, all of them, that’s all I can say.

That made no sense... you brought the console that way and you hate that?
If you hate that you should not buy even in that way.

You support scalpers but hate them? That is really a twisted way of thinking.

I don't have a problem with anyone doing this.

I do have a problem with the complainers. Just because you don't want to pay an inflated price doesn't mean others are not willing. I see it as a patience thing. FOMO is not real and if all you have to do is wait till it is at a price you are willing to pay you won't have missed out on anything. Use the time to do something else. These things are not more enjoyable or valuable the earlier you get them.

Is it against the store policy for employees to buy the products upon release?
It typically is if the supply is extremely limited. At least it was when I worked at Electronics Boutique, but that was also 19 years ago. Knowing how much retailers update their policies, I can't imagine that changed much.

Also, even with that policy in place I had assistant managers that STILL did it, they'd just skirt the rules so to speak. A lot of the time their friend would stop by (that wasn't interested), that friend would buy it, but they were really buying it for them, lmao. That way on cameras it didn't look fishy. That was done ALL the time, especially with consoles. Since staff would know when preorders were available ASAP. They'd just put a preorder in under their friend's name and info, add the five dollars to the til, boom, done.

Yeah, what an idiot OP, paying a premium for a product you want but otherwise couldn't get. What you should do is value your own time at $0, then spend all of it refreshing broken websites and showing up at stores 3 hours before opening on the off chance that you get one. There is such virtue in that.

At $500 profit a pop, I'll take that stern talking to from my boss paying me minimum wage.
When I worked for Wal-Mart during the whole Wii craze, I knew a few people that were fired because they saved them for friends or family. We were told that we couldn't even go to another store to buy them. We had to wait for stock to stabilize or buy out of company.

That's why you tell a significant other or friend when stock is coming in, and what time is available to get. Only to get it for yourself or for them. Not to sell online or scalp. Fuck people who do that. I never buy things that I wouldn't keep for myself. If everyone had that mentality, there would never be scalpers.

Back then at least, stores were not told about stock until it was already advertised.

Side note: I called my local GameStop yesterday and proceeded to purchase a Series X at normal price.

I'm looking forward to owing a PS5 like anyone else, but in the meantime...

FUCK SCALPERS

I'm not surprised by that. I just bought a PS5 today too, thanks to deadpool_jlp's thread about checking your emails. I should be at work right now, but I took a half day just to buy my PS5 and Ratchet and Clank. At least I got it at face value, not like my Crosshair VIII Dark Hero MB and 5950x CPU (which cost me about 500 extra dollars for the two combined).

Don't snitch on him.

Working retail is a nightmare. Dude probably is just trying to get some extra cash cause his wages are terrible and has been working holidays the last few years.

Being fired out of a minimum wage job is no big deal anyway.

Well, if that's the rules, that's the rules. But, I was talking about the guy who said it wasn't against the rules, but not encouraged.
