Xbox Italy Instagram leaks FPS Boost for Dark Souls 3

If they're forcing a fps unlock it'll drop the resolution further, like the other games that do this.
Yeah dont believe everyhting you read on this forum.
Someone in aother thread posted the list of all FPS Boosted titles yet,and it was something like 85% of them used the OneX resolution, and most of the ones that didnt were games that never got a OneX patch.

It runs at that framerate on other platforms already so I'd love to hear the explanation for this one.
well because on Xbox it was hard coded to run at 30. Bandai/FROM didn't change the game code itself (AFAIK) so a unique method in how to hack around the DirectX layer to maintain frame pacing or whatever may have been what Jason's referring to.

He literally said thanks to the help from Bandai Namco but ok.
Getting help doesn't mean there was an update to the game code... it could literally have been thanks to them providing the time of their engineers to talk to Microsoft and approve of sharing source code with the MS Engineers. There was no official patch. None of the FPS Boosted games are patched, which is why you can just restart your console and it's there ready to play boosted even if the game was suspended in rest mode.

Yes it confused me at first. After a chat with a couple here now I'm enlightened.

Checked the list and basically what I understood is this:

Fps boost auto on: Good.
Fps boost auto off: res drop (if I turn it on manually).

It never received a One X update. PS4 Pro update unlocked the frame rate so its been stuck at 30fps on every Xbox system. This is not a One X or Series X update but a Microsoft solution to go around it.

there are other games that are 60fps on other systems that haven't gotten FPS boost. Crackdown 3 for example is easy to run at 60fps on PC, yet no FPS boost for this first party game yet.

this is not as simply as changing settings, they are injecting this through Direct X not by changing the settings of the games.
it's more comparable to using external programs on PC to force settings onto games. like Nvidia Control panel... that also will not work with every game

not every game will work with this method, so some games will need special care

it is always astonishing to see how uniformed people in this supposed gaming forum are... holy shit

they can't do that. and they never did for any other game.
what happened with games that suddenly run at lower settings is that these run in One S mode, they didn't change settings by hand they simply tell the game to run in a different mode.

Dark Souls 3 has only one mode it can run in, this means they can't lower the resolution.

also they almost only force One S settings in games that have a dynamic resolution, because that dynamic resolution will become an issue once you double framerates through the Direct X layer. we have evidence on Series S that dynamic resolutions will not go down even if the framerate goes below the new target.
that is because these dynamic resolutions are set to trigger whenever the game goes below its original fps target. so a formerly 30fps game will only scale the resolution once it is below 30fps, and a 60fps only if it is below 60fps.

patching a game like Titanfall 2 for example will give you major issues because of that. that game has an extremely high resolution ceiling on One X (about 6k, it of course usually runs at only around 1500p) and simply giving this game an fps boost to 120fps means that the game will only start to scale below 6k once it is below 60fps.

Yes, and the second one ONLY happens with certain games that were OneX enhanced. Games that only have a S version, do not drop res any further.

Well, it was pretty confusing to me at first. MS doesn't explain anything in Xbox dashboard when you highlight it. So you can't really blame us.

Also, I've already had a chat with a couple people here who explained things. If you kept scrolling down more posts you'll see. So I'm good now.

If it's one X enhanced it'd be under fps boost auto on and we'd just play that version then no?

Please don't confuse me again 😅

The original quote implied the PS5 wouldn’t run it at 60fps. It does and have been doing it since launch. Nothing wrong at pointing that out in light of the original comment.
It didn't. He talked about ecosystem and what Microsoft is doing, it was never about this specific case but about Xbox as a whole.

Yes. For example, Shadow of the Tomb Raider has One X version that runs in near 4K res. Then it got a FPS boost and it is on by default. That means it runs in same res, but now in 60fps.

Got patch!

However what is weird that it actually got patched with 145MB in size, testing now.

Seems it still 900p, if you want someone to calculate...

The other question is if fps boost does work for DS3, does it work for DS2? Sekiro would be too new to increase fps without a res hit imo.

There is a patch. It seems they had to change their way of doing it and had some insight from From Software. Will try it this evening.

Still could be same as in back with X360 backcompat, that you downloaded just the TitleOS (which is what holds the data about rest of the container - the game itself, etc), which you can inject it with new tricks to run at higher res/fps.

I really hope they achieve FPS Boost with 360 games, there are many great candidates out there. Thinking of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations or Unreal Tournament 3, for example.

could you warp to Road of Sacrifices Crucifixion Woods and see how bad the geometry LOD pop-up is? The first swamp on top before Farron Keep. Like I mentioned in my previous post it's awful on the PS5 especially in this area

Will try to do clip, give me minute. But I was stuck in those places on X1X and don't remember anything jarring.

not sure how else to embed it, however click on the link and it should show normally. It's fine, after a split second in the beginning.

tnx, sorry I gave you the wrong bonfire name at first...

Check this out (PS5 - LOD pop-in):

I remember this part, but I am not sure which bonfire it is. Also how did you provide this video player?

Good. I was waiting to do a souls play through before Elden Ring came out and was really hoping for 3 to get 60fps before then. Played 3 when it came out on One S and going from playing DaS1 backwards compatible at 30fps, then SotFS at 60, then 3 at 30fps was a bit jarring, especially when it came to dodge timing.

Now with DaS Remastered and 3 being FPS boosted all can be played at 60 as Gwyn intended.

Go see a therapist. This is some next level insecurity.
I was just making sure that whoever was glorifying the amazing microsoft ecosystem (as opposed to Sony's nightmare) knew that we've been having this for Dark Souls 3 since the PS5 was launched. 1080p/60 fps, Telling me to see a therapist because I'm not eating that particular fake news tells me more about your insecurity than what you think. I'm not into system wars but that particular post bugged me.

And by the way, you're all still locked in your 2009 900p resolution when the PS5 is delivering 1080p for this particular game, but that's been the case for a lot of the FPS boosts. Having said all of this, Microsoft has been stellar at supporting these games and more power to them but please don't make it seem like the grass is greener exclusively on your side.

I like AutoHDR, but in some games it can just blow out highlights. DS3 is a very "washed out" looking game in most places and the highlights get clipped based on what I'm seeing on YouTube (for both Xbox and PC AutoHDR) on my HDR monitor. Granted, it's an IPS 400 nit type HDR so not "good" HDR. Unsure what it would look like on OLED.

I just booted to test (PC, SSD, max settings) and it's the same
