Looks like to no ones surprise Madden 22 is another flop! The decline of Madden

From 2 big websites: IGN gives it a 6 while Gamepost gives it a 7. Madden continues on it's tradition of mediocre football simulator. This is why monopolies are bad. *tear in my eye thinking of NFL 2k5" Madden use to be a franchise that would innovate and had so many gameplay features it was almost mind blowing. Go back to Madden 05 and compare it to today's Madden 21 and it's almost like the Madden 21 is a demo with better graphics. So many features in today's Madden are missing compared to madden back when it had competition. The Madden game has no competition so no real incentive to innovate. But I digress, they will copy and paste the same game every year and it will be a top 5 seller every year. It sucks because a real NFL fan like me doesn't get a decent game to play. The best I can hope is getting the NFL 2k5 update.

EA sold it's soul ages ago when they started that whole Madden Ultimate team garbage. Just like in the Nba 2k series "VC bucks" , it's a subscription service hidden under glitter. I also would like to say it's no just EA's fault. Gamers are also at fault. Gamers are spending $100's of dollars on virtual characters. Then the online community is really bad:

Playing ranked online matches is rarely about playing real football: Most of the time it's a battle to exploit whatever glitch works this year. There is also gameplay faults every year that turn into only a handful of plays that actually works. It sucks because you can get beat by some 12 year old who doesn't know shit about football but exploits the A.I the right play. Every year there are "money plays" that exploit the A.i so rarely is a game about football knowledge or stradegy. It's about what can I do to exploit the A.I to win. Yes you can player control a character but often there are more than one hole in these plays.

Madden and NBA 2K are both coasting on having no competition. Both are mediocre and barely, if ever, improve. Props to SDS for making MLB the Show a great game every year even though they have no competition either.

Which is crazy. The 3 main american sports have 1 game representing them. 20 years ago there where 5-10 of each sport.

I buy it every few years just to scratch the football itch. This is a year that I buy it. I’m not really sure what else they could do from a gameplay perspective to improve the game to justify a yearly price tag. I don’t care about MUT or anything else.

How are reviewers saying the game is on the right track with improvements. It’s been a yearly released game since 1990. How long will it take for them to actually fix all the issues?

Watched my buddy play this in discord last night. I asked him "You serious spent 60 dollars for this? You know Madden 21 is on Gamepass right now...right?" It's literally the same game. Looks exactly the same, plays exactly the same. Low quality, low effort trash.

never forget that EA had to buy the exclusive license to the NFL because NFL2k was such a better game than madden
NFL 2K sold abysmal in comparison.
So bad that 2K5 launched at $20.

Because of this the NFL offered exclusive rights to EA so for this unfortunately EA is innocent.

As far as comparing the 2 series... 2K killed Madden in quality.

Except this is a constant false narrative. It was the NFL who wanted to sell its license exclusively. Blame them. It would be the same shot no matter what company bought the license. One game zero comp.

That is not football. Football is what we play in the rest of the world besides USA. That is something else...

Don't understand why americans call if football when they mostly play it with their hands.

well NFL Is to blame because ultimately they are the ones who control the licensing. But I think EA talked them into it and made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

No offense but what you “think” and what actually happened are two different things. The NFL notoriously like to license and deal with a single entity, to make more money obviously and to control their brand. EA happened to offer the most for the license. End of story.

EA tried to pay for the license before 2004 but the NFL said no. The NFL only sought out a deal because instead of two competing $50 NFL titles generating a lot of revenue, they had a $20 title and soon after release a $30 Madden. Lower cost means lower revenue which means the publishers will want to pay less for licensing.

Personally idk why the game is perpetually doodoo. NCAA was also exclusive with no competition but it was consistently amazing. It must be the MUT money.

Eventually it will collapse due to stagnation. The crash for Madden and these type of games is coming. How much is EA making off this, that is their price for exclusivity. If the NFL thought they could make more from several projects, they would do it. Maybe that time is coming. But their TV deal really dwarfs any of this. Only EA has something to gain, really.

This is no different than the Pokémon garbage that was announced a few days ago:

Large group of people willing to purchase game regardless of its quality + no competitive product available on the market = zero reason to innovate.

From a business standpoint, why the hell would EA ever invest in taking this franchise to a new level when it will sell like hotcakes regardless. This cycle of shit does not end until those fucking morons who buy FIFA and MADDEN and all that shit every single year stop buying this absolute filth every single year. Just don't do it.

Why is it still called "Madden"?

Isn't that like Fifa being called "Beckham Fifa 22"? Neither still play the game ...

EA surely are maddens.

The core gameplay of NBA 2k is great , the graphics are phenomenal , but this and fifa looks like minor improvements over the last 5 years .
