Why is a game that started dev in mid 2018, only 2.5 years from launch, a cross gen game in the first place? It's ANTI-consumer to all the PS5 owners who paid at a minimum $500 for Sonys console thinking gow was a PS5 title as it was originally revealed.

This is Sony's FIFTH launch. They have sold 150 million consoles before. They never gave two shits about those users after they launched their successors. They are shafting PS5 owners with games that literally look like PS4 games 2 full years after launching the PS5. Simply unacceptable.

Even third party studios have gone back and added ray tracing in games like control, doom, dmc and re8. Miles has better looking hair and ray tracing. this game literally looks identical to the ps4 version that came out years ago. Unacceptable.

Completely expected. Game will be equivalent on PS4/PS5 bar the usual slider adjustments for rez/frames/precision of effects. If lucky there may be some higher rez textures, but that’s wishful thinking.

I do think we're reaching a saturation point with graphics to some degree. Though in GoW's case, a lot of it is due to the visual aesthetic of the game and that it's still taking place in very similar environments to the first game.

Ratchet, Returnal, Demon's Souls, Astro, dualsense + the much better performance the PS5 has vs PS4 games make the PS5 a really good purchase. I'd hate to go back to 30 fps PS4 games.

Personally, I’m more underwhelmed with the environments. If you had shown me the trailer with no context, I would have thought it was the first game from the areas alone.. They look exactly the same.

Still, I’m very excited. I just wish they’d get a better marketer. Whoever edited the trailer did a terrible job. Just a bunch of random bullshit thrown together with no cohesion.

If they had known it was going to be on PS5 they might not have spent $500 just to play a game that was going to be on last gen consoles. It's anti-consumer for the PS5 consumer because he is getting an inferior product that does not take full advantage of the $500 PS5 he bought and paid for.

Not really. If there is a gap between real-time gfx and offline cgi, then there is a gap to be filled. Both are synthetic computer images that converge closer as GPU tech improves.

What? I am not getting any next gen visuals. Not getting any SSD and IO enhancements to game design like Cerny promised almost a year and a half ago. Not getting any enhancements owing to the CPU. other than 60 fps which wasnt even needed as GOW was already targeting 60 fps on the Pro in its 1080p mode.

also, I think the biggest dissappointment from this thing is nothing looked like next gen only, there was no demonstration of how the ps5 is going to deliver something that we haven’t seen before. No examples of the SSD. It’s going to be over half the consoles life before we see a first party game that doesnt look and seem like it could run Ona PS4 pro.

People have some unruly expectations.

Comparing a game that released near the end of a console cycle to its successor that released near the beginning of one, and expecting the latter to took full advantage of the new hardware is unreasonable.

It began development as a PS4 game. The next iteration will be a PS5-PS6 exclusive.

Some people aren’t even considering the amount of time the pandemic caused development teams to waste, working through lockdowns with alternative methods in isolation. Many of these 2022 titles were slated for 2021.

Insomniac is extremely productive, but they also have made two games (stellar mind you) in the past year much smaller in scope/size/length than the titles Naughty Dog or Santa Monica usually produce.

You can’t compare a team making 5-15 hour games to those making 30-40 hour games.

Sure but some still expected a noticeable jump similar to the fidelity in environments in Forza Horizon 5 compared to 4. Nothing huge, but another example is Horizon Forbidden West, it looks a good bit better than the last Horizon as well.

Have some faith in SSM. Something tells me you don't really want to play this on legacy consoles. 2018 looks amazing on PS5 and this isn't going to look worse lol.

2018 was a huge departure and the best GoW game I have played basically. I want more of that. Ragnarok is going to deliver this. If it has more boss battles (which is likely as SSM must've heard the critics) then i'm game.

Yep, expected more from santa monica, horzion 2 (or even forza h5) is also crossgen and was amazed by gameply, here is just basicaly refreshed gow 1, only 2 scenes were realy good (lizard fight and far draw disntace of horizont in one moment)

Here's the thing, The PS4/Pro and Xbone/X are quite powerful on the GPU side (it was the CPU that was choking) and often any weakness have tons of compromise we don't notice much...

Both the PSV and XseX will wow us in
Textures
Resolution
Particles
and particularly in lighting effects

Remember that the Wuhan Flu delayed EVERYTHING...I've said it before but both consoles could have waited a year and then had the best opening year ever on record (but look at their sales...so what do I know lol)

We have barely scratched the surface on what these consoles are capable of (and god willing) if we start tapping the CPUs we get the biggest improvements of all...

I think some of it looked amazing, like the wide shots of areas but the start of the trailer looked a bit ps4 ash but it got better as it went. I was never a fan of the gameplay of god of war, yes I Own it but it was a very very good looking game

Just because they weren’t shown at the showcase doesn’t mean there aren’t more next-gen exclusives in the pipeline either. Obviously, many games they’re working on were not shown.

Having some cross-gen games 1.5 years after release isn’t an issue (GT7, HFW both releasing Q1) either.

Next year was pretty much decided for awhile. I’m predicting:

Q1 - HFW, GT7, Sifu
Q2 - Forspoken, GhostWire: Tokyo, Tchia
Q3 - God of War: Ragnarök, FFXVI, Project Eve
2023 - Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, KOTOR (Remake), Factions II

I think we were too spoiled God of War 18 already looked stunning.
And this looks like a mild upgrade so we(i) wasnt wowed by it but thats not to say the game didnt look amazing.

Was really hoping God of War Ragna was gonna be the true show piece but ended up still happy with what it looks like but indeed it looks crossgen.
