Star Wars: Visions

Well this should be interesting. A collaboration of various anime shorts set in the Star Wars universe.

The known studios involved are Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio (Twin Engine), Studio Colorido (Twin Engine), Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production IG.

Looks amazing.

People will hate it though (once the YouTube talking points are established).
yep. SW haters on youtube are about to hit a big payday once this is released. really sad that hating SW has become its own little niche market lol

im excited for it. this is the first ive heard of it, but it looks pretty cool. kinda like halo legends or love death robots

Ugh, Trigger style does not match Star Wars at all. Imaishi is directing too? Pacing is gonna be off then.
I beg to differ. Studio Trigger would be one of the japanese studios I would want doing a full scale Star Wars anime (which I am hoping Visions is a build up to.)

This is all gonna come down to the amount of freedom these studios get, and the skills of the writers. It certainly has potential though.

It also kinda comes off as "what the heck do we do with Star Wars now that we've effectively killed the series?" and the answer to that is apparently spin-offs and one shots by people who hopefully do have an idea of what they're doing. Throw a bunch of stuff at the wall, see what sticks. Might not be a bad approach at this point.

Actually I'm all for it - although the whole setting, garment and all look all quite distinctly Japanese - in certain cases I wouldn't be even surprised if this is a Naruto side story.
Sure, that Star Wars Jedi Knights do borrow a lot from Samurais and oriental garments, but seeing western people wearing those felt like they were wearing some sort of toga or whatnot.

Anyhow, if this can rejuvenate the franchise in anyway - it would be fantastic... however, what I think of Star Wars fandom being one of the furthest away from typical Japanese animation fandom. As I grew up and loving old anime since my childhood in 70s, I also liked Star Wars, because it was distinctly not anime, something quite "western". Perhaps times have moved on, and maybe this will create something quite interesting.

This looks very interesting indeed. I loved The Animatrix, and this should be even more intriguing. I can’t wait to see what these studios can come up with by blending anime and Star Wars together.

Im all in for this. Star Wars being based heavily on Japanese culture, I’m sure there are some good stories in this for sure. Unfortunately, my kids could care less about SW and they hate anything Japanese Anime. I don’t know if it’s just them, or if their generation in general has a disdain for it. I pick and choose myself and rarely watch it.

You must've missed it when YouTube was trashing Mandalorian for Cara Dune (omg strong woman!), only to do a 180 when she was fired.

There will always be trolls without an off switch. It's not easy to tune them out all the time but that is the internet these days. have to admit I let them get to me as I dismiss the Mandalorian. then binged it after season 2 and it was the best TV(and most movies) I watched in years.

The only person I recall trashing Cara Dune was myself right here on gaf. All the SW haters (nerdrotic, geeks+gamers, etc) I follow on youtube always loved her.

But sure, if it wasn't for those darn YouTubers everyone would love star wars.

This is was one of the things I was most excited for. Give it the fuck to me now.

Your kids sound like they'll grow up to be accountants.

I love this. everything outside of the new trilogy has been great. Solo, Rogue 1 and Mandalorian all good.
Agreed except Solo. Rogue 1 and both Mandalorian seasons are very good (some episodes at the start of season 2 were a bit slow, but it does pickup strongly after that :)).
The new trilogy was completely wasted potential and they will realise how much they f-ed it up at some point.

Congrats you did find idiots, plenty of people who dislked the new trilogy (in retrospect even TFA had the two main antagonists being childish schlaptick like comedy material, Hux, or teenage angst, Kylo, which was an odd audience target choice) that did not hate Cara Dune in season 1 or even loved her introduction.

These seem interesting and may be worth a watch.

But fuck me, I cannot stand this sort of video where you get tiny little clips and 400 talking heads with someone being fake super happy about how amazing it is and how amazing everyone is and everything is so amazing. It wouldn’t be so bad without that blonde woman, they could have given a bit more time to the actual content which came off more rushed (no proper introduction to each title, they get milliseconds at the end of the video after everyone stopped watching). She thinks she’s the ringleader at a circus, but she comes off as a sleazy salesman. If you have to sell it to me, I’m going to think it’s snake oil.

im not against the idea of diversity hiring, as long as the quality of the actor/actress is the same. but there-in lies the problem, they pass up quality for skin color, so you wont always get that.

but then they go and hire a god awful actress like gina carano, who as far as i can tell is as white as they come, and then i question if they understand what quality is at all lol. mandolorian is way better off without her tho, regardless of the dumb woke bullshit that got her canned.

i mean, i like the idea of a diverse group in a SW show/movie, because in a scenario like that, youre going to have tons of different races and skin colors, because you have people form all over the galaxy coming together. it just makes sense. but if they cant act, or the fit isnt right, then thats a no go imo.

but in general, although the sequel trilogy was weak, i still enjoyed it. i also loved rogue one and solo, and the mandolorian was phenomenal. so disney is doing alright in my mind, so far. they just need to lay off the woke stuff and hire quality actors/actresses, writers and directors, no matter what their skin color or race is.

One of those channels in the image is the same guy who filmed a video where he was destroying a Rose Tico action figure.

But as soon as Gina Carano was fired they all did a 180 and loved her and demanded she be rehired, as well as pretending that they never hated her when she first showed up in the series.

The people who did that are scum bags… plenty of people that dunked on the new trilogy never had a problem with Carano at all.

So, not sure what pointing at these assholes is showing beside the evident IMHO reality that self absorbed opportunistic assholes exist?

Again, pointing at an asshole and showing they can be worse than you would have thought is both correct, true, and orthogonal to what I was saying.

It's out, no impressions from anyone here?!?! :lollipop_confounded:

First episode was okay, but it feels like the studios didn't speak with each other and quite a lot of tropes/story-beats are repeated in multiple episodes.

It's weird, Lucasfilm are normally so good at making sure different creative teams are communicating and planning ahead .. /s

Yeah, and I agree with them. But none of the haters I watch said a thing about it.
That episode where she appears for the first time was terrible.
Outside of the plot points being done a million times over what was wrong with it? Hell even the basic plot of 'A New Hope' had been done a million times over in other forms back in the late 70's.

Cherry Picked examples, most devoid of context. Also the fact that you used CBR, a group that cries about the outrage using cherry picked examples to prove their point, just like you, just further shows that you have no leg to stand on here.
