Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition announced, all consoles and PC in 2021 and mobile in 2022

Honestly, the thing I'm worried about the most is licensing and all of that. I mean, look at how the Tony Hawk remake had to deal with it. Would be cool if all the music was there in full, but I think it's safe to be prepared for some missing/replaced tracks.

And it would suck, cause you know Rockstar has all the money in the world to get all songs back, but they probably won't.

I don't think anything is changing in GTA5 but there was already word that these are being changed to fit "today's gaming audience".

Meaning no killing hookers, no off-color jokes, completely neutered and inoffensive.

It's hard for me to believe any of that will be changed. It's part of the GTA brand. It almost makes me wonder if Rockstar themselves created that rumor, just to get the "Outrage Marketing" started. Sadly most here on GAF don't know that outrage marketing is a thing, so they fall for the same tricks every......single........time.

I honestly don't know if I have any interest in this release at all. I suppose if it's a significant enough upgrade, including things like the incredibly dated controls that these games have then it may be worth considering at some point.

No footage? I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to sell the originals in 4k60fps with hugely reworked track lists and some censored/altered stuff...

Oh, definitely. It'd be very fitting with this "definitive edition", I mean, on the surface (at least until we see more) it feels like a quick and low effort cash grab for them. An assumption on my end, sure, but a lot of this just sounds like the same games with HD textures, etc. So, maybe enough for some, but may not be enough for others.

So just to confirm, Rockstar are removing the original versions of these games FROM ALL platforms, and the new Trilogy on PC is going to be Rockstar Games Launcher exclusive.

Good luck getting my Xbox version.

Seriously though, if that's the case that's fucking stupid. I paid for steam versions and I shouldn't have to worry about them being overwitten/replaced by a new version. I can't remember what game had this happen (one of the Mafia games possibly), but it's so totally anticonsumer.

I platinumed gta 3 and vice city in the past 3 years so unless they're completely different I'll only be trying to 100% San Andreas.

It's going to look the same.
%100 this. Low effort cash-grab incoming. Perhaps this is from corporate pressure (Take-Two) to put out more frequent releases.

“You want more frequent games? How about a shitty re-release, you fucking pricks” is how I imagine that went down.

Also, this will sell millions upon millions of copies and be a huge success regardless.

I'm almost certain quite a few soundtracks will be edited out and all majorly offensive material edited out. We can forget a major visual upgrade too, just upscaleed resolution and an increasement in frame rate.

I'm browsing the other site and people are dog piling T2 saying the remasters will suck but... We don't have even a screenshot yet.

kinda nervous to see if they butchered them. Because those rereleases of the Trilogy looked horrible. And these are the same ppl that went back and patched out music from GTA 4, a 2008 game....like recently

No footage so far

Its already pretty obvious whats gonna happen

Anyone expecting more than PS2 games running at 4K/60 are in for a disapointment

I'm curious about an upcoming remake for the top-down games. I own GTAI/II already on Steam and would purchase an updated version with the London expansion included.

I don't really understand this. These games are already available on modern consoles. What's actually new here?
