So here's what I saw happen. There was some uproar back on this site for reasons that I'm sure most of us are all well aware of by now. I saw a bunch of threads and posts that were nothing more but account suicide posts. People were getting banned left and right in a total scorched earth policy. I didn't do that because, well, why the hell would I?

From those posts, I kept seeing people linking to or mentioning a Discord. I joined it and yeah, there was nothing set up for quite some time. There wasn't even a name for the site yet. As of October 22, 2017 (I'm literally reading old posts in the Discord right now), Cerium said:

The @reseteraforum Twitter was set up on October 23.

Then on October 24th, they stated that they have "gathered and rallied" the various Communities. These communities and select members of each of them were allowed to join the site before anybody else did.

This aged well and though it has nothing to do with this specific topic, I felt like sharing it:

But unfortunately, some "complications arose" and they had to delay the first registrations on the 25th. Later on in the same day, those issues seemed to be fixed and they began their "staggered launch" with "invitations in waves."

So whatever is being said about how Era was all ready to go and links were being posted to it during the exodus from Gaf is just pure bullshit. The exodus began before the site even existed. So on Oct 25 the site was already pretty active with GAFers.

that seems like an incredibly short amount of time to make a website and have servers and everything that are prepared to take that much population, no? i dont know how long that stuff normally takes, but it seems like itd be longer than a few days. more like weeks or months. so im still pretty skeptical that they didnt ave all this set up and ready to go. and with cerium's latest actions, it would appear he planned this from the start.

at any rate, they stole everything from GAF, from their theme to the layout and how everything is organized. hell all they did was make a new logo and change the colors, practically.

Rarely post here at Neogaf. This might be my first post, not sure, seems I've been waiting for like 5 years for account approval, glad to be here! Been reading this thread with interest. Some observations:

Racism at Resetera. Disgusting that Reset moderators are approving of recent flagrant racist slurs against whites by another moderator no less.

Low valuation. The valuation of 4.55M is likely based on site hits rather than member count. But it's very low considering a revenue of apparently 700k yearly. Seems like Cerium knew the site was on shaky ground and wanted to cash out quick.

Legality. There's surely scope for winnable litigation by Neogaf. The sale is a shock to many as it went against the spirit of its founding (which was meant to be and widely understood to be community driven). If it was provably a business venture and intended to be such from the beginning then the actions of Cerium against Neogaf at the time was likely illegal. A case could be made that Cerium is the illegitimate owner of Resetera (only a custodian of the Resetera server) and intentionally sabotaged Neogaf to make his site more appealing. Neogaf user data was obviously stolen to build Resetera (i.e., member data, etc.) and forum members were given an ultimatum based on bad faith (that Resetera would be for the community which turned out not to be the case). Beginning legal action might be enough to upset the current sale (although approx 75% of cash has already been transferred to Cerium), and there's also potential for out of court settlement.

Evilore (and Neogaf) as far as I can tell is the victim in all this. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Evilore for retaining ownership here and running the site in a dignified manner in spite of everything that happened.

So I reached out to Moba a few days ago and haven't heard back. Although the timing of Moba reaching out occurred after my email. I'm not saying this caused Moba to reach out to the Era team but nonetheless, the timing is coincidence.

I am dropping a screenshot of the mail I sent to Moba. I do believe we need to apply pressure to Moba to take down the harmful and disgusting rhetoric Era posts in relation to those they disagree with. If that fails, at the very least, I will be reaching out to companies that put ads on Era and link them directly to the hateful content and ask them if their brands values align with what Era allows on their site.

Not sure it would take months, they didn't build the entire website/forum. You basically buy it as is and customize it. Then it's all about paying and finding the right host, It's not unthinkable that knowing the right people, you might have it running within a few hours/days.
