Technically internally it could be pitched as a competitor and Sony could just be incorrect in their thinking about where consumers are finding the value in GPYep, it's pure clickbait from him. I for one, am shocked.
The description does not match his gatcha sentence.
People wouldn't pay $20 per month for one 10-20 hour game. They would pay $20 per month for access to a collection of 10-20 hour games. They could play 10 games for $20 instead of $70 to play one game.Majority of Sony first-party games offer no multiplayer. Why pay $20/month for a 10-20 hour singleplayer experience when it can be purchased outright for $70?
People don't subscribe to PS Now because it only has games they already played.Hope it's fake. Such services are the ruin of gaming.
It's also clear that it's not something Playstation gamers actually want, as PSNow subscription numbers show.
PS+ is 2:! to GP and GP is roughly 5:1 to PS NowDoesn't PS+ already have more than double the subscribers of Gamepass?
Also doesn't PS Now have like 7x as many titles?
I don't really see the logic that it's a failure if it isn't exactly what the other service offers.
Full disclosure:
I subscribe to both ps+ and Gamepass ultimate. And I have subscribed to PS now in the past.
It would take a faceplant of epic proportions to be that bad.Hopefully not like how Nintendo is doing it.
Unless it offers first party games on release, it will be a hard sell to me.
Might be attractive to those who only have a playstation though for sure.

People criticized MS for NOT putting games on PC. Did you completely miss the post GFWL days??Sony has sure been following MS' trends lately. People criticized MS for putting games on PC, then sony does the same. Then Sony tries to avoid Cross-Play, but then does the same. Then people say GamePass isn't profitable/sustainable, then sony does the same thing lol.
Looks like MS' approach was right. Soon exclusives will matter less and less too.

Everything is competition in the industry with each other. PSNow was out since 2014 when they bought Gaikai and the like, they are always "competing" with each other. So it's just there to sensationalize... such as it is in this very thread.Technically internally it could be pitched as a competitor and Sony could just be incorrect in their thinking about where consumers are finding the value in GP
Maybe. Hard to know what it entails or how much it is until they give us more information. I'm hopefully but not holding my breath. It's dead in the water with AAA day and date, unless they do something like 3 months or 6 months after release guaranteed. It's certainly no gamepass competitor without that part.
Only arm & leg ?wonder how much tier 3 would cost
PS Now is literally the same thing this is going to be.
Sounds like all they're really doing is a rebranding in my opinion. Because most people see the Now logo and instantly tune it out.
So if it's being pitched in competition with Gamepass, is the headline factually wrong?Everything is competition in the industry with each other. People don't care about owning games like they used to. People here are an exception, but a lot of people like their Spotify, Disney Plus, Hulu and Netflix. They don't complain that they don't own the songs and movies. They just consume what they want and move on. A lot of people want to consume video games this way. Just the way it is.Nah, it's because you don't own shit.
Vita means grief. No Vita mentioned. Can't even get respect when it's dead. Glad mine still works.
What? That makes no sense, tons ps playstation owners want a sub service with the aaa included, the lack of having them day and date is the whole reason ps now fails.
From the PS Now wiki: As of 2020, there are over 800 games availablePS+ is 2:! to GP and GP is roughly 5:1 to PS Now
I need to find the site but xbox is showing 433 games on console, 389 games on pc, i think it's about 450 games in total.
Their digital black Friday sales are $50 games.I have no desire to sub to ps+ or ps now, I’m not sure what the value proposition is with combining the two for people like me. I guess if you already sub to both it will be cheaper. Either way it better have first party day 1 or it is not even close to gamepass which has that plus is on PC.
Exactly, but it doesn't take much to scramble the console zealots these days so they can foam at the mouth over their rabid devotion to a subscription service. This seems to be just new packaging of what already exists.

A replacement service is clearly pitched/positioned internally as a 'replacement' to the current setup of PS Now/PS Plus. Whether they mention GP in the slides/documents, yeah Jason doesn't really clear that up in the article. I suspect it might be the unspoken elephant in the room though but yeah, it's a take.It isn't being pitched at all. That's just Schrierer's take on it.
Yeah, 2.5: to 1 on the sub numbers but it is from different time periods unfortunately. MS doesn't make this easy. From the PS Now wiki: As of 2020, there are over 800 games available
I saw another link from summer 2021 that said over 700, so I'm not sure which is accurate.
Sony disclosed 47.2 million plus subscribers in Sept 2021, Microsoft disclosed 18+ million in Jan 2021. Not sure if those are the best numbers at the moment.
