it looks like a cool bare minimum next-gen with bad image quality.

it’s a very positive thing considering how weak next gen consoles are, at this point I was expecting worse.

I am sure there will be games able to have better graphics in a couple of years, first one probably Spider man

El analista de bits just released a video.
1080p/30fps on XSS (common res is 828p)
1620p/30fps on XSX and PS5 (common res is 1404p)

It seems like the little one is doing well enough in UE5 games

Is adding our own tweets a thing, now?

That's not what he said, he said Series S is the 1620p version, so it's kicking above its weight!
PS5: dynamic 1620p at 30fps (1404p common)
Series X: dynamic 1080p at 30fps (828p common)
Series S: dynamic 1620p at 30fps (1404p common)
He's a banned source, should only maybe use screenshots from the video rather than any text/framerate info.

If you watched the video instead of just reading the video description you'd see that's a typo.

I wonder why we can’t change the time of the day.

we have a day and night toggle but we can’t move the sun except around the map which is weird and doesn’t make any sense since it‘s the same light just coming from another position.

They could have at least let us try dawn, morning, mid day, afternoon, sunset.

the qte was cool but the city no. Bad reflections, strange artifacts , no ai at all, people just walk into cars… npc quality is not metahuman.
Miles Morales still way ahead when real game kick in.
Nah visually it is not ahead and I loved both spiderman games. But you also need to keep in mind that it is only a tech demo done in a year.Of course a full game will have more IA because this was just a tech to show the engine capabilities.

this is legitimately nuts

and I think that anyone not acknowledging that should be considered at any level legally blind AT THE LEAST

I am deeply shocked.
This looks INCREDIBLE OH MY GOD !!!!!
I've spent like an hour walking and driving around in awe. Every smallest detail, lod, lighting, shadows, huuuge number of cars,
Also physics, car damage model (SICK), and even the sound reverb when you are on highway or under the underpass.
This is next gen feeling. I am totally 1000% fine with 30 fps if we get games like this. Feels a bit sluggish to control but the motion blur and film grain are fantastc. The particles, explosions?
Full time ray tracing reflections, shadows, nanite.

ONE BIG ISSUE - WHERE IS HDR ?! CMON !!!

Some screens I took:

Problem is - no one is showing the quick turns in any of their videos (I get why) and just walking, driving and flying in straight lines are misrepresentative of the engine performance.

I adjusted the sensitivity to how I would play - max sens - still slower than what I'm used to, but adding 50% faster sens would really make the tech demo fall to it's knees.

What you showed in your tweet is the reason why I generally despise 30 fps gameplay. First time I realized what a mess it is was when I played R&C 2016. The game looked beautiful, but pan the camera horizontally and all you see is unicorn puke.

Agreed. Good take!

If this was launch year for PS5, with this a 'what's to come' tech demo.... wow.

Still is wow. Now, can we get a full game?

wait.. is it all ingame as in the part at the start with Keanu talking or was that a mixture of live Keanu overlaid over cgi.. fuck me its hard to tell, sure some of it looks gamey and rendered, trinity looks gamey as fuck but Keanu.. fuck me man i cant tell lol

On a ps5 bro this would run at 60fps and a decent resolution. On the ps6 this is what our first party open worlds will look like at 4k 60fps. The likes of Sony or R*.

I'm very thankful to Epic for this glimpse into the future.

The feeling I got flying around the open world was the same feeling I got when I played spiderman ps4 for the first time.

id happily forsake 60fps and 4K to play games that look that good in 1440p/30
I guess it was rendered at 4k or even 8k resolution and downscaled to lowres. 1440p render res would be noisy and blurry and can ruin such a CGI feeling. Thats why even old pixar movies were rendered in highres(in those days) with help of comlex antialialing tecniques.

Im not seeing so much of an improvement in the free roam mode. It does not look that much better then spidermans open world.
Spiderman doesn't have infinite draw distance and close to zero pop in though. Also, Spiderman doesn't have dynamic time of day. The lighting is baked.

I just played the thing on ps5 and it looks great. I love cinematic games and i was impressed. It is not perfect but the engine shows a lot of promise. I liked it.

The opening Keanu was cgi. I can't tell if the red pill sequence stuff if CGI too or just modern Keanu

Anyone else find it really trippy to not see any geometry pop-in? That's one of my least favorite things about games, watching objects tweak and distort while I'm walking towards it.

Heck, whole entire buildings in Infamous Second Son looked flat and the windows looked painted on, then you took one more step and BOOM a ton of 3D stuff is added to it.

I did see some but it's almost impossible to notice.

Okay, now I understand, that was an early ue5 showcase)
Seems like these consoles of ours came out about 4 years early. We basically have the real pro upgrades now from PS4 / Xbox One.

In most gens, you'd get Engine tech demos like this and Agni's Philosophy 1.5 years prior to the consoles even coming out. It will be a long time until we see Unreal Engine 5 games becoming mainstream at this rate.

I haven't played 30fps games for 5 years now - and I'm not gonna start. 60fps and lower res all day!

Yeah 30fps was obviously going to be the norm when real next gen games start dropping. Even the 60fps cross gen games we’re getting are heavily compromised. Glad I built a new PC.

The team had a CPU, Graphics and performance budget when making the Experience. For example, when the CG characters are on white, there is no background and so that "allowed me to use more Ray-traced area lights," Pete recalls. "Whereas when we got into the car, we had to budget for the complex background, so I had to use less lights." When the project first came together it only ran at 15 fps but as things were optimized the frame rate rapidly shot up. "But when we started everything was way over budget, we used a lot of 4K textures, a lot of geometry, Lumen, – which had a cost of its own, a new shadow maps technique for the sunlight – originally we were basically pushing the limits of everything." The final experience however is indicative of what is possible for a game, running on a PS5 or XBox Series X/S there is still a lot of CPU headroom that would allow a game designer to run the normal mechanics of a game. The team did not want to build a demo that was unrealistic for what a new AAA game would be able to achieve.

The CPU is not stressed, and there are still optimizations to be made to the GPU to run it faster.

In my opinions motion blur is 100% a must with 30fps. Makes the game look much smoother.
If you move your eyes quickly in reality it's also not picture perfect sharp..
They could tone it down a little but it's very high quality and the demo looks amazing.
Anyway - I prefer GOOD motion blur compared to nothing at 30 AND AT 60 fps. as I said many times - only at around 240fps, the need for motion blur goes away

btw people - you can change to night time at yellow signposts

This was the best looking game shown imo, but no PC mention, you wonder why people pay over the top for new gpu's. looks good though.

It is said that UE5 is very memory hungry or something. Maybe unified console memory with direct access is easier ?

Yeah maybe, but that doesn't justify the price of the now top end gpu's if the best looking games arn't made for it, waste of money in the end.

For a while I thought I had become jaded and no longer appreciated graphics.... Yeah this shows me I was just waiting for a true WOW moment. Even with the flaws/limits seen, this is truely remarkable. And the fact a $400 system is running this? Wow.

Hopefully we get a PC version, I'd like to see the 3090 tackle it.

I've managed to give it a go on Series S, you have the expected resolution hit but it runs really well and still looks brilliant.
A massive slap in the face for those who said the console would hold back next gen gaming.
That is interesting honestly. I was going to try it on PS5, but I might try both versions out just to see since I have a Series S as well.

Then ethomaz ethomaz was right, we'll only get real "next-gen" gwaphics at 1440p/30
While I understand the call for more 60fps games I see people having a misunderstanding with the generational upgrade that we are seeing in this generation.

People compared the graphics we have in 30fps last generation with the graphics we have in 60fps this generational ... it is really hard to have a generational feel in graphic looks when you are doubling or more the framerate... framerate increase is too expensive.

In a very bizarre comparison you can get a 30fps game on PS4 Pro for example and double the amount of power to reach 60fps... so you can have let say TLOU graphics in 60fps running in 8.4TFs GPU... so the PS5 has 10.3TFs GPU so which generational upgrade in graphics you will have from 8.4TFs to 10.3TFs if you maintain 60fps? Even taking in mind the improvements in hardware performance you will be still in very much the same range of graphic look.

So comparing graphics from PS4 Pro in 30fps to PS5 in 60fps won't indeed give that WOW generational factor.
The things will be better comparing PS4 Pro in 60fps to PS5 in 60fps but you even take these game as graphic looker in last generation? So most 60fps games on PS5 will indeed look just better without that WOW factor than TLOU 30fps for example (because it is a looker in last generation it will be used as comparison and not the 60fps games).

Now when you focus in 30fps vs 30fps... you will indeed start to see the WOW generational factor in graphics... because the difference of over 2x TFs will be showed in your screen.

That is my view why to impress you will have to go with 30fps.

It's probably also direct storage access. nvme is not accessible on pc like on xbox and ps5 still

i don't think it's a tech limitation personally, just the usual, we either don't want to make a PC version or release a broken one lol. i'm use to it now.
