OFFICIAL: Starfield and Redfall delayed to 2023

Sorry if someone already mentioned this, but I was just thinking this is an extra level of crazy when you consider they only have to target Xbox Series and PC. I know that's still a lot, but you would think dropping a potential PS5 and whatever cloud versions would help reign in some development effort.

Sony already did their job.

Released returnal and ratchet and Clank in 2021.
They also released hfw, gt7 in 2022, with God of war ragnorak being in the air.

MS on other hand throw all their basket in 2021, leaving nothing for 2022.

The funny part is I finished Horizon and will never pick it up again, and I'm still playing Halo and Forza. I don't understand why the technical calendar year of release matters if all these titles were a couple months apart.

I guess I don't get the obsession with "years," period. Can I turn on my Series X and find things that I have never played? Yes. Can I turn on my PS5 and play things I have never played? Yes.

These "year" conversations only matter to a small, hardcore band of horse-race message board warriors.

Where the fuck to begin????????????????

1. Redfall delay. I have said numerous times that I was always expecting Redfall to be delayed to 2023. February/March was my prediction. Give them an extra six months and stay away from the packed Fall/Holiday season. So no surprise here whatsoever. At least, not for me. When it releases in 2023 I guess is an entirely different conversation. Hoping that there's NO release date for Redfall's gameplay trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase because well, if the following game can have a release date 18 months and get delayed, then what's the point in announcing a release date now??? I say show gameplay in June, hope it's a good showing and then wait until The Game Awards to announce a release date if it's before June 2023. If it's after June 2023, just wait until next June's showcase.

2. Starfield delay. If there was one single game in 2022 that I didn't believe would get delayed to 2023, it was this game. When you give an actual release date 18 months prior, in my mind, it's like, okay, they're extremely confident, you know like 100% fucking confident in hitting that date. Otherwise, why give a release date? Makes no sense to me. If you're not 100% certain no matter what, don't give a release date. As for the game itself, im not a Bethesda Game Studios fan. I am a fan of Arkane, Machine Games and Tango Gameworks though. Excluding a few hours of Fallout 4 years ago, I have never played a single BGS game. This was going to be the first BGS game that I was going to play and give a legitimate chance to. Obviously, this game must have some serious issues and people thought it was releasing in Fall 2021. Hahaha. Hoping the gameplay trailer in June at least looks good and the foundation is there. If it shows like Halo Infinite in July 2020, they should pull it from the showcase in my opinion. I'm going on record right now and saying that Starfield will release in November 2023. I believe that it will get a full one year delay just like Halo Infinite.

3. Bad PR. After this past weekend's outage and DRM nightmare, delaying not just Redfall since I don't believe that would have mattered much in the grand scheme of things but also Starfield is just piling on after last weekend. Microsoft should have waited until after the showcase to delay Starfield. Redfall they could have put a new release date on it in June when they show gameplay and post-show, be like, yeah, they needed another six months or whatever. But for Starfield, I would have waited until July to delay it. Let Xbox fans have a great showcase, stay hyped and excited and then delay the game because if you're excited after the showcase for whatever reasons, at least it wouldn't be as bad in my opinion because there would be so much to look forward to in the future.

4. Empty and dead 2022. This is pathetic. All these fucking studios (excluding ABK since they don't own them yet) and they can't even release any games. This reminds me of the Xbox Series launch where all they had was Gears Tactics and that's it. This year, Xbox fans will get a Deathloop port. Yay!!! (sarcasm). I know people expect Forza Motorsport and I will be honest, I would not be shocked or surprised if it gets delayed to 2023. UGH. This year is definitely giving 2017 Xbox One a run for it's money. lol

5. Mismanagement and leadership issues. Seriously, how many fucking times does someone have to see negative after negative before realizing, holy shit, there may be some serious fucking management issues? And the more studios they add, the harder it's going to be to manage them all. It's like they bit off more than they can chew. I also don't understand how there could be miscommunication issues which is definitely apparent here because how do they start marketing Starfield knowing that it's probably getting delayed? In all honesty, they don't seem to have a clue as what they should be doing. I understand being hands-off in the creative process after green-lighting a game but they should be hands-on and require updates at least every three months. Like, hey, what's your progress? How's the game coming along? Do you need anything? More money, more personnel, more resources? I like David Jaffe and while I don't always agree with him, he's 100% right in this regard because as of now, it looks like fucking amateur hour at Microsoft in regards to Xbox.

6. Phil Spencer. I like Phil but he's too relaxed and laid back. He needs to be more strict. Granted, he's probably a generation away from retirement and has setup a great foundation to build on but at this point, there needs to be some results and games getting released. And I don't care what 2021 was. That means nothing to me now. Spencer and company need to get their shit in order, period because if not, all this investment, acquiring studios and publisher will be for nothing.

7. Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. While majority will probably disagree with me but as an Xbox fan, I DON'T want to see any new game reveals from their first party studios at all. Show me fucking gameplay for the games that have been announced the last two fucking years. Don't show me a fucking CGI trailer for a game that's 3 years from showing gameplay and another two years before it actually if we're lucky. No, just fucking no. Hold back showing new games until they're literally within 18 months from release. I don't need to know games are coming out in 5 years. I want to know what's coming out sooner rather than later.

8. 2023 and beyond. This is perhaps the only upside and positive. If in 2023, Microsoft actually releases 4+ exclusives and all of them are great, then awesome, the future goes back to being bright instead of dark like it is right now but at the same time, they all really need to get their shit together because having nothing at launch outside of Gears Tactics, nothing in the first half of 2021 and thus far, nothing in 2022 is simply unacceptable.

That's enough of my fucking rant. Worse part is that im not even really pissed off, more so, im so damn disappointed and letdown because it's like, every time, you want believe that Microsoft has finally righted the ship, nope, here's another fuck up that makes you think, how do they not have their shit in order? I can fully understand a few studios having issues (like 343 as an example) but JFC, it's like they all have fucking problems and issues. I just don't get it. I really don't.

UGH. What a shitty day for gaming. At least for me. Oh well.

EDIT - I knew I forgot to say something. With no potential exclusives this Fall outside of probably the Deathloop port, Microsoft needs to go after Gotham knights and Avatar to be in Game Pass day fucking one because other than getting major top tier AAA titles into the service at release, I don't see how anything else can even come close to making up for delaying Starfield and to a lesser extent, Redfall. UGH.

I don't know how much simpler I can say this.

After Q1, Sony's year appears pretty dry. Even if God of War hits, there's only one Sony first-party game coming out that we know about. If it does not hit, that's 75% of the year without a first-party title. That's a long time.

MLB22. Not exclusive but 1st party in Q2.
GoW:R Q3/4.
PSVR2 is supposed to launch this year, and it won't launch without games.

No problem with the delay.
They need more time to polish their Masterpiece, to cook a great meal.
We can wait, Bethesda :pie_raybans:(y)

It's disappointing but people are overreacting or for some reason gloating. At the end of the day once the game comes out it will all be forgotten, does anybody care that Forbidden West was delayed now? It just eventually become irrelevant.
Hopefully they have a good gameplay showing next month, that will calm some fears.

So.....Thanks, Phil?

Ahh, that's new to you, is it? I have a secret to tell you. You can not only go back and play things you never got around to, but you can also go back and play games you already played but really like, in addition to playing more recent games like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Horizon Forbidden West, Last of Us 2, Scarlet Nexus, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 6 etc. I know how ecstatic you must be at Starfield and Redfall's delay. It sucks ass for people who actually planned on playing it rather than get upset and boycott based on what console it's on, but, just like Halo Infinite Campaign and Cyberpunk 2077 etc, it's definitely a game I would have dropped everything else to play at launch, but as long as you're enjoying yourself, that's all that matters.

I play fifa 22 alot, more than any game. That doesnt mean the game is my favorite.

Xbox doesn't you only. They have other users too, same as how PS has alot of users.

Some people love Horizon series, while others love GT series. Sony satisfied both of these users in the same year.

Xbox on other hand, satisfied their users last year. But now those users have nothing, since halo infinite.

This is a big problem from their side. Their Users won't be happy, if this problem doesnt stop this year.

Yeah, I don't get it. It sucks! It's too bad!

But my backlog on both consoles is just so goddamn long that I don't understand who is sweating or celebrating this. On PS5 alone, I have bought, started, and then walked away from (to come back later): Cyberpunk, Uncharted 4/LL, Death Stranding DC, Demon's Souls, GTAV, Ni No Kuni 2, and I'm probably forgetting some.

I'm good, my dudes. Devs can take their time.

P.S. Let's be honest - we all are more interested in seeing and reading about games than playing them (you know it's true :messenger_grinning_smiling:), which we'll get to do soon for both Redfall and Starfield.

Why in the world would I be "ecstatic" about a game I've been wanting to play getting delayed? That is just console warrior nonsense.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The right decision is not announce a date till it’s guaranteed

But that's the thing, originally this was rumored to be a Q4 2021 game, when they announced a hefty one and a half year in advance, everyone thought that is big enough of a buffer time to have the game complete.

Apparently not.

You can't really fault people for that.

We have two options:

1-Delay and have a great game :lollipop_winking:
2-Not delay and have another Cyberpunk :lollipop_fearful:

Bethesda made the right decision!
That is not right decision.
They played us like clowns. Seriously, why can't they just shut up, and don't do promotion video, if you are going to delay it.

Everyone was hyped to this game. Now all the momentum is lost, due to this delay.

But what gameplay could they show if most of their games are coming out next year? What shape would they be in?

God of war showed the gameplay. Same for horizon Forbidden West.
At this point, showing the gameplay will lesser the angry mobs like me.

Not showing it, will piss us even more than now.

Cyberpunk was delayed.

And the biggest reason it was crap at launch was because of the PS4/XBO versions and them not having enough time to get the next gen SKUs ready.

That's not gonna be the case with Starfield. No last gen, or Playstation, SKUs to develop.

The reaction isn't that different from the Horizon Forbidden West delay. And yes, plenty of gloating there as well. I do think it is an overreaction for those who are saying they are selling their Xbox (if they are being serious). But I'll say here what I said when HFW was delayed: I fully plan on playing video games next year so Starfield will be there waiting on me. So yeah, you are absolutely right. The HFW delay is entirely forgotten at this point. Starfield's delay will be as well.

That is not the reason.
The game had been scrapped, and remade again. Alot of content were lost, because of that.
That is why the game was in that state.

CDPR had a good project, and they shot themselves down, by going in a different direction.

Xbox one/ps4 are the scape goat.

Makes you wonder if they really believed that and were caught off-guard once it didn't happen or if they knew they were lying from the start.
MS doesn't lie about their hardware, considering they made xbox one s and Xbox one X.

They also have windows, which has data on most GPU.

So their hardware department is solid. Aside of hiccups failure like the xbox vcr and x360 ROD.

It's crazy when someone laughs at something happening to either platform. You should want both sides to do good. Unless you work for one of these companies, idk why the hell you would celebrate something bad happening to the other side.

Users not happy.

FTC not happy.
Green rats not happy and purchasing blue dye.
Dildo sellers not happy.

And yet..............

I'm not upset about Redfall because I know next to nothing about it except for the CGI trailer we saw last year. I AM however sad about Starfield. It seemed like they were starting their marketing/hype campaign and were attempting to set this game up as the release event this fall.

Ah well.

Also I'm not sure why they're saying that they want to avoid a Cyberpunk situation when they could easily say that they don't want a repeat of FO76. They angered a lot of people with that game. Although it actually is pretty decent now.

I'm in the same boat. Disappointed it got delayed but I expected something like this to happen. It's just how AAA development is nowadays.
Hopefully with the world returning to somewhat of a normal, this delayfest can hopefully sooner, rather than later come to an end.

Dead Space Remake is coming out in January 2023.

EA beat Bethesda in releasing a game lol
That's what they said about Starfield and they doubled down on this years release of it.

Its just better to wait and see. Videogame release dates currently are all over the place.

So WTF are they even releasing this year? They have only released a partial Halo Infinite game and Forza Horizon 5 in the last 7 months. Nothing on the horizon. Maybe Hellblade 2 but that won't sell consoles.
With all those company purchases and nothing out this year. Pretty bad. And I just secured a Series X order yesterday...
