Xbox has a 2 day embargo for multiplatform announcements

Found first on reddit

r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - It looks like Xbox has a 2 day embargo on multiplatform announcements from its showcase

Press release for Wo Long confirming it coming to other platforms that was planned for June 14th

Another press release also dated June 14th for Persona 3, 4, and 5 coming to PS5 and Steam

Official Atlus Persona series website still only says Xbox and Windows, so the embargo is still in place it seems

That's the most anti-consummer shit I have ever seen. They don't have anything for 2022 so they want you to think all the games are coming to Xbox only.

We knew right away after the SOP that the games were multiplatforms. Xbox fans made sure we wouldn't forget it.

Imagine the outrage if Sony did this recently 😳

Smart move. Most people don't follow news daily like we do so they will only see what Microsoft want them to see.

On top of that I have a feeling that every game that's on Gamepass is automatically associated with Xbox. No casual with both consoles will pick up a game on PS5 if it's day one on Gamepass.

It's still stupid and uncalled for, just like if Sony did it. Don't turn this into something it's not.

what like only allowing pre-orders of Callisto Protocol to be PS4/PS5 after State of Play?
You knew the game was coming to every platform right after the SOP (the release is in 6 months anyway so why preorder so early?) compared with all the threads asking if Persona and Wo Long are coming. Japanese fans are harassing devs on twitter but they can't confirm. Good thing the press release leaked early.

Pointless post but all you do is damage control and stan for GP anyway so not sure why you bothered.

The most anti-consummer? Yeah no. You're just ranting for the sake of it now.

It sounds like Sony does do it too. LOL

They just did it with Callisto Protocol apparently???

It's silly, but not that big of a deal. It's not like the games are coming out in the next few weeks.
Friday Movie GIF

Also pretty sure I didnt see Xbox mentioned when SF6 was announced during the Sony State of Play either. This isn't a big deal regardless. Multi-year timed exclusives suck much, much, more.

I take it you don't remember Diablo 3 and how Blizzard was only able to announce the Xbox version right before release?
Lol I knew you organized parrots were going to bring that old shit from last decade here. A game from 2012.

Y’all repeat each other 🤣

No they didn't, it was announced multiplatform as soon as the SOP ended.

Not during the show obviously (Duh) but Capcom made it clear it was multiplatform. You couldn't miss it anyway because all the Xbox fans were talking about it everywhere.

And they didn't do it with Callisto so that GIF was useless. Don't believe Lognor ever. A troll.

So many studios and they still have to buy third party temporary exclusives... and now temporary platform reveals, wtf

Doubt it's "buying", I would imagine it's just a matter of placement.

Xbox had a show; PlayStation didn't.

To be considered for a spot (on a showcase which delivered 470k views through the official channel and several million views on the live stream in total,) there's stipulations so that the host gets the most bang for its time. If you have a product you want to be included in some other company's marketing material, either you agree that that's fair when you agree to be part of the show or you renegotiate or bow out.

Letting Xbox hold its spotlight for a little while instead of immediately posting, "...And don't forget the competing consoles!", that probably seemed reasonable at the time. No communication went out that any of these products were exclusive, the products were not mislabeled in the stream, nothing actual sellable was released ("anti-consumer" is a weird thing to throw into this thread, considering nothing could be consumed besides tweets and streams,) and the client gets two hits of media because a few days after the show they can make news again announcing the other platforms.

Usually, this all works out without much concern or upset. There's a show, then there's some follow-up later, and everything the people need to know is out there in due time. In the Persona case, though, it was probably a mistake since there was an active fanbase which really made an issue of this messaging approach, and Atlus would probably think better of timing and messaging next time.

This required some sort of detective work?
If it didnt say Console Launch Exclusive at the showcase I dont think it would take an astrophysicist to figure out the game was multiplatform?

Right? I'm confused, did people forget how trade shows works? This is not new. The only difference is there's not an "E3 Starts Today" event where it switches from platform-specific pre-events to open floor of announcements and access.

Most casuals will be more aware of the first announcement and unaware of any that followed a few days later.
So it gives that impression of exclusivity.
Pretty shitty tactics imo

Who are these casuals who are so media-illiterate that they get all their information from video streams and tweets but then are left unaware forevermore of other streams and tweets?

It's a lame tactic, agreed, but this idea that Xboxes will be flying off the shelves for two days until suddenly people realize these old Persona games will also be on PlayStation (...again), I don't see how that's realistic.

Casuals will look for “game”+”preferred platform” on google when they really want to buy the game or look into for it, it’s essentially pointless.
