An emotional rollercoaster. A celebration of the life of one of the most poignant adventurers of this generation. It reveals the profound impact he had on the people around him, people who loved him but couldn't save him from the demons he never truly left behind.

This hit me hard at times. A must watch for fans of Bourdain's books and shows or just the man himself. He lived one hell of a life.

It's on HBO MAX in the US.

Elvis - cinema
Absolutely loved this film and I know nothing about Elvis and was never a fan. You can tell this movie was made in the edit, very fast paced. Real shame that it's not doing fire at the box office because it deserves it. Very high production values and very well made. Austin Butler is pretty damn incredible in his portrayal of Elvis. People should watch this at the movies.

Lightyear - cinema
Pretty good film from Pixar, not top tier Pixar but definitely the top of mid tier Pixar for me. It's got some pretty great action scenes and I loved all of the characters. Not all the jokes landed for me unfortunately but what can you do.

Silenced - Netflix
Jesus, this movie. For all the people that whinged about the Cuties film, I'd love for them to watch this. It's a Korean film about deaf and mentally ill children at a school that are sexually abused. It's not full on explicit but they don't shy away from showing some of the disgusting things these teachers did. It's a really good film but I felt really gross, grimy, disgusted and sad by the end of it. The main actor is Gong Yoo of Train to Busan fame.

Starting Over Again - Netflix
Simple and corny little love story that my wife wanted to watch. It's a Filopino film so you pretty much know what to expect if you have seen any before. Toni Gonzaga is damn hot.

The Woman in the Window - Netflix
Pretty decent thriller with Amy Adams as the main star. I enjoyed it and was creeped out in some scenes. Really wasn't expecting the ending to play out like it did.

The Princess - Disney+
Fun action film that is light on plot with lots of action. Joey King does really well in her action scenes, they are well choreographed and filmed as well, can't wait to see her in Bullet Train now. It could have used some higher production values but what can you do.

Been a while since I saw it but I recall respecting that they focus in Bourdain’s changes when Asia Argento comes into his life and the negative influence she had.

It really showed how the wrong kind of person can have terrible effects on another. No fault of either, it's not like either planned it. But that's life.

horrible, honestly. the basketball player is terrible casting and has 0 charisma. hard to believe it was produced by Adam sandler and lebron James because it feels like it was made by someone who doesn't know anything about basketball and then recut by movie execs into the hot mess final product that it was.

Yep, I have to agree. I just failed to really get going. The repeated self destruction got old just for the sake of a last minute romcom type finale. It had flashes of awesome but ultimately didn't feel satisfying.

Watched Quo Vadis, Aida? which is also the winner of the best European movie of 2021.

Great movie about the Serbian massacre in Bosnia, doesn't explain a lot but it shows how defunct the UN is or was in great detail, and how weird / horrible it is to have to fight your actual neighbours. Also thank god everyone talks their own language instead of using silly accents like in most American productions.

Also watched Dual, the new movie from the guy that did the enjoyable Art of Self Defence starring the chick from Doctor Who.

It was very quirky, a bit silly, yet weirdly dry, an OK watch but we are totally left in the dark regarding the motivations of the protagonist and that hampered my enjoyment a bit. I liked Riley Stearns' previous film better.

Stars Wars: The Clone Wars
After watching a couple of the episodes of the show, I watched the movie (following the official recommended order), and I think it was okay... The plot was very simple for a movie, not that better (if any) than the two episodes I watched prior to it, and they could have made it into two episodes instead of an 1 hour and 30 minutes film.

Minions: The Rise of Gru
Watched it yesterday with my wife and kid and we had tons of fun with it. I think it could have been less action oriented, but still was plenty of fun and we had a good laugh. The people in the session apparently enjoyed it too. It was better than the 1st.

Possession (1981)

A collection of allegories. An allegory of a failing marriage, of infidelity, of the agency of a woman (back in 1981). The director and cinematographer effectively told a story behind a story if the viewer is keen enough to realize what's going on. I noticed an interesting thing I had to confirm by scanning through it again after my watch: the lead female in the movie - Anna / Helen - is only on screen by herself once, in every other scene a man is there with her, and her lone solo scene is a pivotal one that enforces some of the previously mentioned allegory. The final act was something else.

I don't think this holds up well overall in many ways, but the director was rather clever with what he did here.

I watched this children's movie on Netflix from either Scotland or Ireland (can't tell as I can't hear right now... Cochlear sound processor in the fritz) called The Sea Beast. Nearly 2 hours but I never felt it being too long. Sweet yet gripping.

Before anyone calls it "woke", it's an alternate history where a king and queen have basically ruled the world and folks from all over hunt monsters.

For some reason, his films are elevated and overhyped, despite being offensively mediocre. There's nothing clever here. Nothing original. This film is mostly really slow for a slasher flick. The acting is bad. The gore is lacking. The plot is predictable. Don't pay for this. If you're someone that has lost faith in modern horror, this will not change your mind. Like the rest of Ti West's movies, it fucking sucks.

I got suckered into watching Ti West's The Innkeepers and thought his segment in V/H/S was weak. Definitely agree he's overrated. Having said that, I thought X was really good and entertaining. I actually GAF about the cast, which doesn't happen often in slasher movies.

You should still watch it. This film is fantastic. The body horror is great in this one. I'm a huge fan of body horror. The last 20 to 30 mins are infamous though

I'd say in about 90% my overall taste and verdict of a movie is somewhat in line with the IMDB average rating. This is one of the few exceptions.
Love this movie to death. Perfect pace, action, cast. Even though I've seen it loads of times already I glued to the screen every time.

Still holds up. Had a bunch of great lines like Tombstone. Probably a top 10 Western for me.

My wife got 2 free tickets for it yesterday, and we went to see it without expecting anything good, since we never read much about him or listened to his songs deliberately. We didn't even watch any trailers about it before. Actually, we were both expecting not to enjoy it at all.

Glad to say we were both extremely surprised! What a fantastic movie!

Austin Butler acting was amazing, and I think the guy deserves an award! If I'm not mistaken, it was even him that sang during the movie, it wasn't lip sync. And he did it fantastically well! The production was also top notch, and kept me, my wife, and apparently the whole audience in the theater thrilled the whole almost 3 hours.

I highly recommend it! Would give it, easily, an 9/10 just for the production and acting. But since it's based on a true story and I'm skeptical, as I always am, about the truth of facts in biography movies (although I don't feel like doing research), I can't give a super accurate score.

This was a tough one. I was warned. The director essentially wields various obscenities, vulgarities, and acts of psychological torture to make points regarding various socio-historical and political topics. I guess. I mean it's so repugnant at times I found it difficult to finish.

Would I suggest it? If you're into kind of art house stuff, have a strong stomach, and don't shock easily, then sure.

Morbius - Apple+ rental
Finally watched this as it was available for $7 on Apply. This movie wasn't terribly made but bloody hell I was bored through the whole film. The story also made very little sense to me. It goes for about an hour and 40 minutes, it takes 30 minutes for Morbius to have his powers, not very much time left to tell an actual story with an substance. Sony are still stuck in the early 2000's when it comes to making comic hero films.

What a visual and musical feast. I did not like Matt Smith prior to this but he was really good.

I watch this about a week ago.. This is one of the best horror movies in a very long time. Really wish I wouldn't seen it when it was in theaters rather than on HBO Max.

Never seen Smith as a villain before and he is sublime.
