For some reason the Forza Motorsport thread is locked, so I guess I’ll post here instead.

Turns out the gameplay from the showcase was captured on PC rather than Series X. Dunno if it would make much difference though.

This one shows the weaknesses of GT7 RT on little rough reflective materials, it looks fuzzy and is worse in real time when you are in garage or replay mode. And the picture gets blurry when you come to close in GT7 for whatever reason.

this is how it looks when you are not rendering it, without blurry shake

And this is how it looks in scape with the highest quality model and effects

Whats weird is I can kinda make sense of whats being reflected in GT7 even in the blurry mess. You can see the contact point from the gold rim face with the bolts onto the wheel rim. In the Forza pic you see the opposite, its missing the contact point but you can see the other side of the rim/bolts

Edit: After a closer look, I guess the contact is there but somehow gets warped?

They are both pretty accurate actually, its just the little angle difference that makes the difference and the white lip that hides a part of the reflection on the forza pic.
As you can see in the picture below the more skewed the angle is the closer the bold reflections are against the bolds.

And this looks like the GT7 reflection at roughly the same angle

You got pretty close with the angle in GT7, Im sure you can get a closer match to illustrate the point. But with even with that weird lip in Forza where they connect the reflection just seem really odd vs those real pics you showed. Maybe theres better reference out there but I would expect to see more of the gold edge with bolts at this angle. Like in both the real pics the gold edge reflection is thicker in the reflection vs Forzas

Its such a weird angle that you can't find anything that matches it as close as the pic that matches GT7. When the game comes out i will post that one for you with the same angle as in GT7. But the bolds get closer and gets skewed the more skewed the angle is so i don't think thats a error tbh.

@Negotiator101 Here you go mate, tried to match the lighting and angles as close as possible.

But those are all photomode (outside the Forza spa and 787B youtube screenshots) so they are enhanced and doesn't really tell us anything how it really looks. GT7 in photomode adds lots of things that is missing in gameplay like RT reflections on cars and environment, more grass, more trees, higher quality shadows, SSOA, higher quality reflections, higher quality car models and higher draw distance rendering. For Forza we don't know yet how much they add in photomode or if they add anything. But if those screens are any indication of what it really looks in game than it blows out any other track racer. The level of detail and the overall quality is really above anyhting we have seen yet.

Not sure that is a good comparison. Moreover the bolts looks 2d in Forza ? There is no depth it looks like a screw ?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
In today's DF Direct, Alex says he spotted in-game RT in the Hot Wheels footage they showed, looks like they're retroactively fitting it into this expansion as well ?

Time stamped:

Yeah your right there is definitely depth missing on the bolds in Forza. GT7 scape version is the best but the photomode version got the bolds wrong, they become hexagon because of the missing tessellation.

Not anymore it seems... :messenger_beaming:

"For Series 9 we are adding a new graphics option called temporal anti-aliasing (TAA). As an alternative to multi-sample anti-aliasing (MSAA), TAA reduces shimmering by blending multiple video frames and ensuring frame to frame differences are smoothed. Additional detail is captured, resulting in a softer image that works particularly well at lower resolutions. Our TAA implementation in Forza Horizon 5 minimises trails and ghosting as is typically seen with this technique. Players can also customize its final appearance using a sharpness control. We think this is a great, new option for PC gamers, improving our tree foliage while ensuring a smoother, more stable gaming experience overall."

Wow, I hope they give the option to swap between TAA and MSAA for consoles too.

It'll probably make the image a bit softer but a lot more stable.

jesus FUCK why do they upload at 1080p on youtube, uses the shittiest codec with the worst compression ever. Honestly though awesome news

IIRC, the deal officially ended sometime last year (the GT x FIA deal was set to only last two years before being extended in 2019) - a lot of people noticed in the run up to GT7’s release that the FIA branding in-game had pretty much been scrubbed out. It wasn’t a quick decision made based on GT7’s current state like a lot of people believe

If anything, it’s probably better that ACC has the FIA partnership now - it’s a much better (hardcore) sim than GT is and it’ll be great for the visibility of the game in the long run.

Mmmm... is it like in GT Sport, that it only works when in motion and is disabled when the car is stopped:

dCilT4n.png

Or is this aliasing due to max sharpening or something?
I think sharpening, because i set it to 8 (5 was default). It was a little too soft for my taste but it could be also like in gts where in motion you get smooth clean image but softer a bit.

MSAA works better for 4K in their view, but TAA better for 1080p. That said, they should put it on XSS because it runs at 1080p60 and would clean up the image nicely.
I play at 1080p and agree TAA with +5 sharpening looks super nice. Much better than MSAA and obviously spanks FXAA. Funny it's labeled as an "experimental feature" in the settings. Maybe we PC folks are beta testing the feature ahead of introduction to consoles.

I really hope so. And I wish they would give us maybe a 1440p mode on XSX with TAA and pushed out draw distance. It’s ugly at times in performance mode

So i made a comparison between ACC PC vs ACC PS5, and holy shit the PC version obliterates the PS5 version. Its literally better in every way on pc and it also runs much much better. After playing ACC on PS5 i can safely say that GT7 is the best looking racing sim/track racer on console. ACC on PS5 is just too much downgraded compared to the brilliant pc version.

Driveclub is almost 60fps on a hacked PS4 Pro with a patch by some guys:

moXGf7S.png

So yeah, if some guys got this, without any real access to the game code, sure it could have been fucking easy for the dev team to fix it to stable 60fps (and add TAA)... damn Sony!

Would love to play this at higher fps and resolution with all the photomode effects enabled. Hopefully one day PS4 emulators are good enough to run this game at 4K60.

Do you remember just few years ago when we were throwing everything at each other and calling each others all sorts of shit over Driveclub, Forza, GT, etc. in this very same thread? :messenger_tears_of_joy:
So what? what happened in the end? NOTHING
If anything, the discussion got rich to the very meticulous details of each game/engine, everybody ended up learning something from others and even ended up being friends. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't be overzealous of your moderating job. Unless somebody crosses the line to personal attacks/insults, it's not needed or wanted.

I don't think either StuntFest or Wreckreation will win any graphical awards (both are mid-budget THQ Nordic games,) but for the sake of completion...

STUNTFEST

Another bump for this thread that is sort of a left-turn, but we don't have any UE5-based racers in here yet (even indie UE5 games) and also timing on this game is eventful, so this is Over Jump Rally.

...If this game looks familiar, it should; it's a fan-made "tribute" to SEGA Rally (and in fact you can see the same SEGA Rally course that this is copying being played in windowed inside of this video) made in Unreal Engine 5. This is a ground-up project made in UE5 (albeit using assets and engine components that have existed for some time now on the Unreal marketplace, and of course this is a SEGA Rally map) and it properly uses Lumen and Nanite in playable gameplay which is shooting for 60FPS. It's a one-man project, it's an off-hours project, it's an indie project, it's a fan "tribute" clone project, it's an unmonetizable no-budget homebrew project ... all of that, so of course it's not included here as competition for the big racers, but it is interesting to see what UE5 contributes in even a homemade game.

A functional demo is being made of Over Jump Rally and will be played as part of the SAGE '22 (Sonic Amateur Games Expo) fan event running Sept 2-9. I'm unclear of the SAGE process but there doesn't seem to be an in-person location for the event nor is the demo planned for release (the developer is hoping to avoid C&D letters from SEGA while possible... he actually wants to somehow get picked up as an official "indie sequel" ala SoR4, but good luck with that?) but if you're a SEGA fan or interested in indie/tribute/ripoff games, you may want to check out Over Jump and games like it in that stream.
