HBO Original | The Last of Us | Part 1 OT | Endure & Survive

This is why I keep saying that you don't have a good understanding of the story.

Tess was in charge in the first game.

Go back and watch the first encounter with Robert's men. She was demanding that his men tell her where Robert was located. When that man told her he would bash her skull in, Tess said, "Fuck this" and shot him dead.

When they finally caught up with Robert, she was the one who interrogated him and shot him dead when she didn't like the answers he was giving her.

Oh, this was also the same Tess in the video game who was ready to shoot Ellie as soon as she found out she was infected.
Except it's not my opinion but those of the video reviewers.

When I watch it I will judge it on its own merits and less so on how accurate it is compared to the game(s). I don't expect 100% accuracy in TV/Movie adaptations.

Imagine being unable (or refusing) to form your own opinion so you fallback on this dude to tell you what you should like and what you shouldn't.

Thought it was super strong to begin with but had a weak middle, great ending though.

As with this part of the game really. That section between the time jump and chasing Robert is kind of meh.

You think people, specifically women, would age like fine wine living in a post-apocalyptic world like this? She is a hardened no-bullshit smuggler who is 20 deep into a brutal as fuck world. You exect her to look like Jennifer Aniston or some shit? Running around with nice hair and make up?

There is no electricity, no hot showers, no make up, no hair salons, no nail salons, no plastic surgery, nothing at all in this world. what do you expect her to look like?
I expect her to look better than the extra behind her who travel back in time to do his hair and steal make-up I guess.

It's curious that in the same world Joel or Marlene don't look that bad. It's clear to me she was made less attractive on purpose just like in the games - in the original TLoU1 and in the remaster Tess looks okay and believable at the same time (so still no makeup, clean skin or fancy hairstyle), in the remake she's suddenly unattractive and way older.

Got you triggered huh?

Part 2 is a good reference.

Not really no.

That’s good.

That’s very detailed. Thanks. I will give it a go. Hopefully they don’t fuck it up by season 2.
Haha I totally you were joking but you were serious! This whole whole thing is far past comical at this point. For sake of clarity, is the part 1 woke also or is it just part 2? And what exactly made it woke again? The musicale woman? Too much lesbian action?

Just so you know, I’m not trying to attack you. Just really curious.

More docile, not completely docile compared to game Joel. Probably also referring to Tess who Joel is now seemingly awaits orders from rather than taking initiative.

LOL anyone who thinks Joel more "docile" than in the game has either not played the game or dont remember what actually happened in the game. I just finished Pt 1 this weekend and got the platinum so I've got at 2 full playthroughs.
  • When we first see Joel and Tess after the 20 year time jump, Joel is following Tess as they walk through the QZ
  • Tess is the one who really wants to go after Robert since he beat her up.
  • Tess got the papers to go outside the QZ for both of them
  • After the firefly attack at the QZ entrance, Tess tells joel to follow her and she is the one lets both of them into the building.
  • While they are going through the building, Tess is telling Joel what to do.
  • Tess is clearly the leader of their 2 person party because whenever they talk to anyone shes talks for both of them.
  • When they finally catch Robert, Joel holds him down and Tess interrogates him
  • Tess decides to kill Robert, not Joel
  • When they meet Marlene, she talks to Tess about about transporting ellie
  • After they meet Ellie, Tess convinces Joel to transport Ellie, at that point they split up which was Tess idea.

These YouTubers never played the game. They just see the show as ammo in their smooth brained culture war stupidity that's making people dumber by the minute.

thats how low the standards have fallen.

but thats what they wanted all along.

Love how none of the men look disfigured or broken down. Pedro looks pretty much the same. Just with grey hair. The checkpoint guard looks like he just took a warm shower. But hey, lets disfigure the only attractive actress we've hired.

It's a running theme for ND who have no qualms about making their male characters look like models, but women must either look fugly or disfigured or both.

Whats their endgoal here?

ND want to make you gay by making women uglier and guys prettier?

Of all things I've seem people complaining, this is the most stupid yet. It doesnt make any fucking sense.

Why? Just why?

The probably part is what I thought, they did say they liked the game accurate parts so maybe I misunderstood and they were talking parts that weren't in the game.

Well, I'll just list the wokeisms I saw:
- global warming in the first five minutes, recycle your shit or there's gonna be plant Zombies. Subtle as a brick.
- Sarah caught a severe case of being black.
- Tommy is established as an in and out of jail redneck pain in the ass.
- The Fireflies aren't terrorists, they're a militia supporting liberation and democracy. Mostly peaceful random building explosions.

Other than that, was super solid. Nice cinematography, several shots that made me instinctively want to press buttons on my controller because they were so spot on. Sarah's last scene wasn't as impactful as the game to me because of the editing of the scene, but overall, I thought the actors fit the roles, Ramsey's forehead didn't look like the fucking Death Star the whole episode, which was honestly my biggest fear. Will keep watching.

The Left Behind section will likely add more context to that.
What's left behind? Is it like that post show thing they did for walking dead?

TV shows are so much better when it’s once a week though.

A good show works regardless of how it's distributed. Watching on a weekly cadence masks flaws like pacing or repetition that you don't perceive when there's a week between each episode. I definitely prefer when shows launch at once so I can view them over the course of a week.

It was an okay first episode, pretty faithful adaptation of the game. The talkshow bit was fantastic. The setup of the world prior to everything descending into chaos was quite eerie, and I loved it.
Sarah's death wasn't as effective as in the game I thought. Troy Baker's performance was more gut wrenching

I liked the post apocalypse depiction of the world, it feels very realistic. Ellie by Bella Ramsey feels a bit more angrier? Don't really like it.

These seemed to have picked up on some wokeness with how they changed Joel's character(more docile, Sarah doing everything for Joel since it seems Joel can't do it himself)

They liked the game parts but not all the added stuff which felt more like padding and ruining the pace than adding anything meaningful.

Also global warming is now a factor in the virus' existence.

Do you guys honestly not see how cringeworthy you are calling everything woke?

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
I expect her to look better than the extra behind her who travel back in time to do his hair and steal make-up I guess.
You expect her to look better than him after she just got beaten and tortured? These arguments are absolutely stupid.
It's curious that in the same world Joel or Marlene don't look that bad. The same people were complaining about her looks in the remake as well.

Now as soon as the show releases, suddenly they pretend they liked her looks in the remake. Make up your minds. Just watch the show and stop trying to get off to female characters in a zombie apocolypse.

You want an attractive lead in a Zombie show? Then go watch the Resident Evil movies. That corny ass shit.

Im sure you'd all like that corny shit better. Women kicking zombie ass in high-heels and shit. Ridiculous.

resident_evil_out.jpg

She literally wears make up. And it looks fucking dumb.

All this "everything is woke" nonsense is ridiculous now and is now worse than the actual wokeness. You sound just as insane as the Reeetards honestly.

Trailer on HBO Max is over 17 million views, will eventually overtake the teaser for House of the Dragon and take 5th all time on the hbo max youtube page.

Watched it with my daughter. I've played both the games, but for some reason I never noticed that Druckman wrote the most basic teen fiction imaginable. I guess I was distracted by the terrible A.I and the constant drawer opening. Anyways, I really liked the dog.

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
Rewatching it now. In the time jump forward.

They cast the right actor with Pascal. He does Joel really well. I get why some might be turned off by his accent, but IMO it's hardly noticeable and you forget it after a minute or two.

Can't remember who, but the other day somebody said people in NeoGaf cry as much as people in Resetera, the only difference is they cry about opposite thing. I totally agree with that.

The difference is that it's only like five or six people here, and they always predictably complain about the same shit ("wokeness"). So it's easy to either ignore them or just gloss past their comments.

On Ree though? It's like 99% of the users, going hard in the paint 24/7, and if you disagree with them they will contact your employer.

So not the same.

Intro was amazing. Actress for Ellie I wasnt sure about at first but not anymore. Crazy how these british teens pull off american accents so well.

Only thing to nitpick was wtf at Marlene. Her hair and makeup is like early season GoT bad. All I could look at was that beet red lipstick thats apparently really plentiful in this post apocalyptic world.

Seems like they are just retelling the games story, not sure how it’s going to fill 9 episodes, I’m guessing lots of flashbacks and filler content. Wife liked it, but complained it was another zombie tv show,

Elle actress was a bit shit, but did anyone like Elle in the game. Not sure why she was main in part 2.

Part 2 story was so bad, so at least I don’t have wait for season 2 😂

Ok I watched the whole episode. I thought it was an 8/10, pretty solid start. My criticisms would be:

  • The reveal of Ellie's immunity was better in the game. In the show it felt rushed.
  • Episode was too long. I don't have an issue with length, so long as it's minutes are used well. I liked most of the added stuff to the story, but there was a lot of fat they could've easily trimmed out. Could've made it a 70 minute episode instead of 80 imo.
  • Pedro as Joel is fantastic so far, but I'm not sold on Bella Ramsay as Ellie just yet. She's just has a bit more of a firecracker personality than Game Ellie did when we first met her and I'm not sure if it's the writing or the actress. There's 7 more episodes to go, so I'm not passing judgement at this point. But as we all know, eventually when Season 2 rolls around it's going to be Bella Ramsay carrying this show, not Pedro Pascal. So I hope she gets better.

Wow! Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I would even go so far as to say it outdid its source material. The intro sets everything up so nicely and the family next door had the creepiest parts of the show. The way they showed the old lady slowly twitching and transforming was a master stoke.

It was pretty good.
Imo the acting was really solid all around, the production values are nice too (though I wish the darker scenes looked less grey).

Also props for embracing the music, I don't know why other shows (lile Halo) shy away from using the music of the games more.

I just... found it slightly boring? It's just the last of us, except without the whole interactive aspect.

It was great overall. Shit gave me an adrenaline rush the second they hopped in the truck. One criticism I have is hopefully there aren't many other scenes of Marlene getting that frustrated like the part where she tells her crew to follow orders, the acting was a bit cringe. She's more convincing when she speaks in a calmer manner. I also agree with the way they got caught sneaking out of the zone and the reveal of Ellie's immunity being done better in the game but I'm sure the latter will get more time in the spotlight in the next episode. And while I was really skeptical about Bella Ramsey as Ellie, she wasn't half-bad in her debut. Still has a lot to live up to, if there's any hope of her coming close to the game version of course, but I'll give her a chance. But one thing that has bugged me ever since the first potatocam images were revealed, and was unfortunately never addressed, is that I wish they put more effort into translating her game hairstyle to live-action. I think that would've done wonders for her appearance, at least on a personal level. In fact I would've probably settled for any sort effort at all for that matter because it seems like they put zero thought into it and said eh just style it however you want, bummer.

I'm ok with it so far. I'm not a fan of Zombie post-apocalyptic worlds in general because they are all so similar, and this is no different. This looks like HBO's The Walking Dead. Thankfully it runs at a much faster pace, because I think I gave up on TWD after the first season or the second, it was treading water.

I liked the shots in the car, I didn't get the weird separation between Tommy and Joel because of a two cars that burn... maybe they should've shown how it blocked them off.

Overall interesting.
