The Capcom sweep continues

Nah, all Capcom can do now are sequels, ports and remakes. The Capcom from the 90's and 00's is gone, they play extremely safe now.
I'm excited for the near future. They're about out of safe runway.
  • Safe remakes are nearly exhausted
  • Street Fighter is out, Monster Hunter will continue with the World model.
  • 1st person RE has been done twice now, not sure how much they can do the same thing.
  • DMC seems finished finally
Seems to me like RE9 will have to be some kind of reinvention. Pragmata is something new. Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to dethrone Elden Ring, and will likely be pretty different from the 1st one. I don't know if they have a choice but to innovate soon.

Give me a break. You guys act like Resident Evil 2 and 3 are just an HD paint job and framerate boost.

These are, in actuality, completely new games. They're based on stories and settings of the PS1 games, but after that they are complete re-imaginings.

how's it a shit argument when every game i listed was critically acclaimed and well recieved? What's so bad about the games i posted?

You linked a 15 year old game (from a time when they weren't hated) as evidence of some artificial "sweep" of their recent releases. Dragons' Dogma also came out when their reputation was about to decline, but you linked it. You don't even know how to make the point you're trying to make. Brain dead.

Hated among whom? Even when they released Dark Void, my opinion of Capcom never changed. They will always be one of the best publishers in the business.
then you were simply just one of the people with a based opinion. doesn't change the fact that people were ripping on Capcom a decade ago

Meanwhile RE4 Remake (based on the demo) is barely different from the original and it feels outdated.

it's still an amazing game and hence why i put it up there

and the sweep still exists. all the games i listed besides Dragon's Dogma and SF4 came out within the last 6 years

Yeah, I don't remember them being hated.

2012 was when they were considered to be at their anti-consumer peak due to the triple dose of DmC, SFxT on-disc DLC and Mega Man Legends 3 being scrapped, but unless you happened to be a Devil May Cry or Mega Man fan, they were still putting out good stuff elsewhere and pleasing their fanbase. They've always been a highly regarded and respected developer since they began in the industry, and that's never changed.

A hated publisher is the kind of description you rightly reserve for the Activisions, EAs and Ubisofts of the world, not one which frequently and consistently makes some of the most beloved and highest quality games in the industry.

Ea has been putting out a ton of good shit latley though, i dont think they deserve that moniker necessarily unless your talking about fifa and the bf 2042 blunder

I'm not, nostalgia has nothing to do with it, these remakes are just really fucking good games and there's only 3 of them so far.

The Silent Hill 2 remake on the other hand will be nothing but nostalgia.
c'mon bruh. Is not about you. is about RE's cultural significance.

I remember RE2 being played at a booth in the street market, with people gathered around watching the television.

i tried to play it just after Millas Jovovich's First Movie. (i had a nightmare that night). and I only played like 30 minutes, i didn't even put the memory card.

my cousins played RE3 without sound.

The points is: RE was everywhere even if you weren't a gamer or fell out of the hobby at the time of these remakes you could imagine someone say:

"Oh, I remember that was a thing".

So let me get this straight, i post a thread about the recent sweep that one of my favorite game developers has been on, you run in and point out that 2 of the (still critically acclaimed) games i posted were a bit old, then proceed to insult and shit on me because of that mistake. I'M the autistic one here???

I'm not gonna stop posting about my favorite game developer, if you don't like the thread you can leave or put it on ignore, troll.

Eh, a few jackasses on the internet doesn’t really prove that they were hated. The vast majority of gamers weren’t hating Capcom.

Capcom made the very first game I asked for to go along with my NES and it's nice that there's at least enough continuity in gaming that they can still deliver. You can be a fan of Capcom with very few periods of shame or neglect which is pretty insane in all of entertainment media.

I can only speak for the RE franchise but the only truly great game Nu Capcom managed to produce there has been RE2 Remake to me. I've been buying and playing them all, usually multiple times, and quality and direction wise, I feel like they're just fumbling around wildly and sometimes some cool elements stick. Like we just went from RE2 Remake to Shadows Of Rose, which is some of the worst shit I've played in the entire franchise and I bought the damn lightgun games and everything. The entire final stretch of RE8 is mindbogglingly bad on every level to the point I had one of those "what the fuck are they doing" moments and just quit out of the game the first time around.

Then there's the cosmic joke of RE3 Remake which...no point in beating a dead horse.

Let's hope they can keep it going with SF6.
some people may not like the changes they made to the character designs but honestly i like them, it's been so long since street fighter felt like a STREET, Urban fighter.
plus SF had been pretty stagnant when it came to character designs, changing it up entirely for the new game was honestly one of the best things they could do.

Tekken 7 looks dope as well

‘90s Sega would give them a fight. But it’s legit hard to argue against this.
I'd actually say Modern Sega's a great runner up to 2nd best publisher. Pretend Sonic* doesn't exist for a moment and then you realize that everything they've been making for the past 6 years, just like Capcom, has been propelling them to new heights... Persona and Yakuza especially. Their output and game design have been amazing so far and the fact they're dabbling in their older IPs gives me hope that we might see a return to the glory of the Genesis and Dreamcast. if it weren't for Sonic dragging their image down i'm sure people would like them a lot more
*(though even with that, they've been really expanding on Sonic with many TV shows, merchandise and marketing. it feels like he's going to become a general mascot rather than just a videogame mascot, which makes sense IMO)

remember crapcom? remember SFxTekken? Remember SFV? Remember Resi 5 and 6?

people fucking hated capcom back then and they still make a few blunders today like MVC infinite. but they've gone from one of the most reviled to one of the most beloved in just a decade. I can't think of a turn around story better than that
People liked RE5 though...

Only game most people hate is RE6, and even that is dumb fun.

Don't call it a comeback, they've been here for years.

In that period you're saying they were down, Capcom released Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Shadow Of Rome, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil 5 (the best seller of the franchise). If that's being down, then if only all publishers could go so low. :messenger_grinning:

The marketing for SF6 hasn't done much for me personally, but I have zero doubt the game will be phenomenal. Years ago they said they were going for an immersive experience, which is something that has been missing since the Alpha trilogy.

Actually, looks like they reiterated that last year.

Meanwhile, World Tour is described as “an immersive single-player story experience” that “pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows players to leave their own legacy with their player avatar”.

I just wish they didn't go woke for SF6 but I'm going to buy it anyway because it's Street Fighter.
I didn't get MM11 because I wasn't feeling the art style or music but hopefully MM12 is better imho.

Just a reminder you say this even though it hasn't been like that since 3S, but you put SF4 in OP. Keep up the good work.

The worst one was the first one. Extremely bugged and with terrible AI.
Mechanically sure, but the original Dead Rising was the most interesting and it launched the franchise. Gotta respect it.

Loved the vibe in the first game, something that got lost in the western ones. You'd peel back the layers in the story with each playthrough, slowly finding out the truth. Brilliant stuff at the time.

This still never guaranteed Capcom's success with the remakes though. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD 2012 was diabolical and that franchise is probably bigger than RE. They just did an outstanding job, at least so far.

They have a bunch of stuff to remake still. 1, CV and maybe 5. But also they can starr remaking dino crisis and DMC 1-3. But I agree with the rest.
