Why do you think Sony did not provide review copies of the PC version of TLOU Part 1?

I think that's a first. All of their other games had copies sent to reviewers before release and we generally had reviews on the same day or the day before. This game has been out for a bit over 3 days and the reviews on Metacritic just started coming in. It currently sits at 56% after 6 reviews.

No doubt based on what Xbox, Nintendo and Bethesda are bringing for 2023. They'll probably end up 1,2 @ 3. This game might bring down Sony's score a bit. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Isn't it obvious?

The game is a mess. They were hoping they could sneak it out and get people to drop money on preorders.

Nothing else to it. This shit has been done a million times before and Sony ain't saints.
But it sounds counter-productive? Naughty Dog is one of the most admired and respected developers in the industry. There was really no reason to rush it out the door. They even delayed it by 3 weeks from its initial release date to polish and then this? This is just bizarre. Tarnishing your reputation and blowing up in the gaming community for all the wrong reasons seems like a horrible trade-off to sneak in a few pre-orders that would result in at most a couple of millions of dollars.

They have lost a lot of goodwill and need to redeem themselves now.

You're right there was no reason to rush it out. It's going to be 10 years old soon. If PC gamers have gone this long without playing it then they could wait another year. The reason they probably put it out now was because of the show. Delaying it 3 weeks isn't going to do anything (as we now know...Imagine if it had released 3 weeks earlier). If they had delayed it any longer they'd lose out on the TV show hype. They probably wanted to get Part 1 out around Season 1 and we'll no doubt get Part 2 on PC whenever season 2-3 comes out.

You can praise Naughty Dog all day but at the end of the day they are still owned by Sony and it's them that call the shots.

I also thought about them wanting to ride the hype of the TV show but told myself that Sony can't be that dumb. This is the kind of stuff I would expect from EA or Ubisoft.

It's also the 4th release of this game. Most reviews now would just be on the technical side and even then the results would vary depending on the author's setup.

Exactly. The relatively small number of reviews even today is a giveaway.

I'd also add that Sony obviously benefit more from selling the title on PS5 than on PC, so its not like its a priority for them.

As to user scores, well the PS5 version has its fair share of "protest" entries (there's a zero on the front page, despite a critic's average at 88), so you can basically disregard them regardless.

So you are saying they gave it a half effort and called it good.

Is'nt that obvious? Because of the shitty state they knew the port would be at launch and they would'nt want that to hurt pre-order numbers.

They could've delayed the game again until they fix it, but that means bigger development costs and they knew most people still would buy the game even with its problems.

They just do that (No just Sony/Naughty Dog, EVERYONE) because the consumer accepts it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I think the bigger question is why Sony/ND allowed the release of arguably their most valued IP to get botched this bad.

And why didn't they let Nixxess, the studio *MADE* for quality conversions, handle this.

Imagine coming in hot after a beloved TV series and you could make bank with the game being on a new platform

But even after a delay, they still fumble it

If publisher doesn’t provide a review copy then 99% of the time it is bad news. They released it knowing this game performance is bad. It is not like they are surprised by it.

They knew

Of course they did. Media reviews isn’t the only way publishers know their game is going to be shit. They can review it internally and get testers feedback. They knew it is in a terrible state but released it anyway.

Wow, I had Naughty dog on a pedestal after the Uncharted ports. What the hell happened here?. It got outsourced or given to the students?. Even amateur modders are more consistent that this.

Rush it out and Also make a trash port to convert more PC players to PS5. There’s a reason why Jim Ryan said that he didn’t want the Call of duty series to go through with Microsoft because PS5 would also get trash ports. Sony seems like they want to make money off PC but at the same time butcher the ports on purpose to get more players to buy a PS5.

Well, clearly they knew the port was a disaster, but instead of delaying and making it work, they put it out anyway to hit the market post HBO show, counting on enough idiots to pre-order.
