Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is getting slammed on Metacritic (story spoilers)

I did not expect to see this as the reason for anger at the DLC. I haven't played the base game or the DLC, I clicked on the thread because I was just curious what the outrage was about.

I mean, for me at least, it's eye rolling at worst to see focus on someone's sexual orientation in a game and this doesn't sound like a focus. Modern gaming narratives put way too much focus on this stuff but I don't really care and it won't stop me from, picking up the DLC at some point. I'd be more concerned on the quality of the DLC and if I felt I was getting my money's worth.

First of all yes. Every character has to be gay from a corporate perspective. That's the in thing right now amongst common folk, white girls in their mid 20's and of course game critics and journalists.

Second, here's a wild thought, how about she's just Asexual because she has better things to do. That's the feeling she gives off the entirety of the beginning of Forbidden West when Aaron keep tring to talk to her after they had some sort of falling out.
Just a reminder. We are talking about only western based corporations. Woke politics are not part of chinas, India’s, Russia's etc way of doing things :)

Just make a badass Killzone but don’t call it Killzone. Make it open world, dark and immersive as shit.

But are fans ready to have a gay romance flourish in the battlefield?

I just think it's funny the people complaining about her preference in partners must have picked the "love" option at the end, so I'm not sure what they expected?!? lol

There are literally two other options, one to tell her you arent sure, and one to tell her you're staright up not interested, but no, the hate crowd picked the option that would enrage them the most it seems
Playing devil's advocate, but this story blew up on Twitter because the annoying other side started celebrating Aloy being LGBT as canon.

This problem is not one-sided, there's a side pushing for this stuff to be more present in-game, and there's another side that goes against it. I, for one, wish they just wrote better characters.

Like in TLOU2. Sue me.

On the topic it really throws what’s wrong in the world into something tangible.

If your kids are too young to process a gay experience then YOU as a parent should not allow them to play the game. If it’s the majority who do not buy the game then companies will stop making those games.
This is different than other situations Where they can’t avoid it.

If your kids are old enough then they should be able to process and move on. Sure teens buy into every fad imaginable when trying to find themselves but again that’s why YOU AS PARENT need to guide them and set limits.

Maybe you don’t have kids and just don’t like it. Don’t buy the next one. Don’t support the company. Just bitching about something then turn around and still throw money at them means nothing.

So to sum up, be better parents and have some principles. 🤷‍♂️

16 is a child.
Yeah, everyone knows that 16 year olds are bastions of purity and would never dream of kissing each other.

Look I'm not a fan of Aloy being a Lesbian (as they were not exactly being subtle about it, and its cliché as fuck) but two girls kissing in a game is not going to corrupt the youth or anything like that.

And? There are also plenty of Sony fanboys doing the same* and also fanboys who rate games 10/10 and never played or ever will play it. But that`s all just stupid fanboy business as usual and nothing that get's a game into red scores.

*Took me 1 MS game and 2 minutes:

I bet very few of those low scores are meant to be a symbol against certain sexual orientations. I suspect it's more like a protest against excessive political activist pandering and shoehorning.
Nowadays people just go onto places like this just to try to make something out of nothing. Paid for outrage is real thing. So you never really know. 🤷‍♂️

Wasn't Ellie enough? Does everyone has to be gay in Sony games?
I'm gay and I'm disappointed because it's just to tick a box.
It would feel more natural to the game if she was straight since she had plenty of male suiters in both games and then they shove a lesbian interest in a short dlc that not everybody will play.
So what about Jin, Kratos, Peter Parker, Ratchet, Deacon, Joel and Delsin? Or is two gay characters just too much?

It's like if something is gay it is automically propaganda/politics. USA residents have too much politics living in their heads rent free.

She was never interested in guys

Because is BRAVE. And you would care too, and if you don't, we gonna make all characters gays until you care.
I dont care if video game characters are gay or straight, it has no bearing on the product for me. Kratos could have mouth kissed mimir at the end of god of war ragnarok and it wouldn't have made it a worse game.

Really Sony!? You're going to have not one, but two gay characters in your games! Is everyone gay now besides..*checks notes*...oh literally every other Sony main character?

Relationships are part of any story. Your complaint is absurd.
You poor thing! Imagine going through life without the ability to recognise hyperbole!

?!?
I'm in Portugal (in case you don't know, it is in EU!) and I'm gay...

I didnt get that impression from the games. I felt the only reason she didn't try to pursue a relationship with any of the interested male suiters was because she didn't have time for that, her mission was too important. I never felt that she lacked interest in them.

Havent played the DLC but loved the main game, it's my goty. If what I read is right, there are a ton of issues with this...she became colder and more calculated, more detached from everyone, it's how they build her character in parallel with Sobek and I loved that about her, which many did not, yet all I see in the DLC is the complete opposite of her character. I'm gonna go ahead and agree that this was an agenda for both the people that complained that she was lacking personality/being cold in the main game and to get lgbt points. Eh, guess I'll skip it.

Ooof I love how everyone assumes stuff without playing the DLC (you). No wonder people call the game bland (not you).

user review scores are meaningless. reporting/giving attention to them is what they want.

edit: but i have a joke:
why something so woke make you fall asleep so damn hard?

In a nutshell, for me at least....

The tech for the Horizon games is fantastic! They should can all of their writers though and character designers as all of that is butt ass ugly.

I imagine this will be Aloy for part 3, except with an even fatter face as they continue to make her more repulsive as to not look even remotely attractive at all:

I can’t imagine being offended or upset by this.

1. Gay people exist in the real world
2. A vast majority of Sony characters are not gay
3. A vast majority of video game characters are not gay
4. Anyone paying attention during the second game saw this coming from a mile away

No one should give a fuck about MC user scores. Literally every first party game on all consoles get their share of console warrior reviews.

Lastly, it’s fucking Horizon. The writing and characters are so terrible, why waste any emotion on it. It’s very telling that more than a few posters in the thread reference characters from either of the games and have no idea what their names are. It’s all trash writing and forgettable characters. Who cares if someone is gay. It doesn’t matter.

Show some empathy for a change. As a straight white man, none of this diversity stuff bothers me because there are literally ENDLESS options for me if I want only consume entertainment where straight white men are the focus. Gay people and minorities sure as shit don’t have those options.

So it's alright to compare 3rd party games with a PS 1st party games from the production value PoV as the PS 1st party are outliers in the industry and require the same standard for 3rd parties, but when asking a 1st party DLC to have the same production value as a 3rd party DLC which is also an outlier is not ok?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I never made any comparisons in the first place, just replied to someone that did.

Ellie and Alloy. That's it, it's a vast minority of the heros in Sony games.

Don't like sexuality in games, don't need that, but i'm also not offended by it, TLOU2 was perfect and i didn't feel nothing wrong about it... still haven't played Burning Shores but sounds a bit ridiculous that Aloy is suddenly gay? why even introduce this? oh well any how it's not something that will bother me to a degree i will get mad about it.

Aloy = not political
Aloy kissing = not political
Aloy kissing a = not political
Aloy kissing a man = not political
Aloy kissing a woman = KEEP POLITICS OUT OF MY GAMES

And I don't even care about Horizon. Graphically incredibly, but I don't vibe with the art direction, especially the costume design. It's theme park level of ridiculousness.

Imagine needing to resort to hyperbolic statements upon finding out that a Publisher has more than one gay main character.

Hiding behind “it's just hyperbolic” would have made more sense if it wasn't followed right after “Isn't Ellie enough?”,Which in itself is a very questionable statement to begin with, and then followed by “it's just to tick a box”.

Feels to me that the Horizon franchise in its current form has kinda run its course anyway. I'd suspect a soft-reboot is next because I don't think the buzz is still there beyond the graphics. So even if some people are unhappy with the creative, I doubt it's going to matter in the long-haul.

The actress for Aloy is queer / pansexual, that seems less of a reach in logic for a reason tbh.

Anyway, Forbidden West was already a bland open world game, not shocked the DLC is also bland. Seems the review slams are more because of some silly controvery though and it's time metacritic starts doing something about unbiased / single issue review bombing.
I still don't understand the difference between bi sexual and queer/pansexual is there any?

If you genuinely think the recent appearance of this stuff in games is apolitical you really must be dense.

Just a complete coincidence!!! Sure.

She is not suddenly gay, her clone is gay, why would she not be gay? did you play FW? seems like the answer is no.

I do think a lot of these games were made in a time where sexuality was discussed and openly pushed to normalize it and the franchises made during that time still exist today.

I do think it'll pass, but don't be surprised if more trans people start showing up in games, i feel like that will get more outrage than simply putting gay or lesbian people in games.

Personally, I don't care......it's not like it's player made character RPG. I am simply playing a character and enjoying the story.

OK yes i didn't play the DLC yet, only the main game, i thought that Aloy is gay in the DLC? no?
Sorry, she is the clone of Elisabet Sobeck, who was confirmed in the main game, not the dlc, to be lesbian and in a relationship with
Tilda

That makes no sense.
Twins are clones genetically and it's rare when both are gay/lesbians. Usually it's only one of them.

Oh, so its explicity said on the DLC? Shame.

It was clearly hinted in the main game, and god I can't stand this trend of every character having to have a sexual preference, and have them say "I am gay/bi/straight/etc". It adds nothing to the game, most of the time detracts from the main story/plot, because time needs to be spend to show how much gay/bi/straight/etc that character is, and 99% of the time that happens is just feels like pandering, like someone put there out of personal interest, rather than in service to the story.

Why can't characters of a game just be great dads, or great action heroes, or just an unfortunate dude in a horrible situation, and not also happens to be gay and say so while that person tries to fight for his life?
Personally, when I first heard Solid Snake hit on Mei Ling in Metal Gear Solid in 1998, I broke my PlayStation in half and threw it at my Dalmatian named Charles…so I get what you’re saying.

technically true, but we don't have human cloning do we? lol.

Also, identical twins are not perfectly identical genetically whereas clones supposedly are.
