The way the Switch is still selling at such high numbers consistently, Nintendo might as well hold off the Switch 2 until 2025 to give Switch a chance to over take the PS2 as the #1 total sales of all-times.

Nah man. They'll be limping into 2025 if they do that.

I do not think Nintendo cares about that lol

But more than that, I do not believe, nor do I think Nintendo believes, that launching the Switch 2 will kill off the Switch sales completely. I think they are counting on a 2 years(give or take) buffer to use the Switch as a safety net(financially speaking) while the Switch 2 gains traction, much like they did with the 3DS, or Sony did with the PS4. So even if the Switch 2 launches next year, the Switch should beat both the PS2 and the DS to become the best selling console of all time.

I actually think waiting to 2025 would hurt the switch's total as well, Nintendo has probably already shifted most staff to switch 2 development (except game freak, they'll be working on pokemon electric bugaloo/ the revenge for switch 1 and deliver a product not much betterthan sword and shield but will still sell millions,)
2024 will be dead for switch news and everything will be about wait for switch 2! Killing interest
If the switch 2 is out and they drop the price they have low cost option/ upgrade when ready/ and if they're smart with full back compatibility, keep your existing games

Switch 2 is not coming until 2027 my friends Nintendos don't care

It's not that important. They already have it with the DS. That PS2 figure is very inflated. It overlaps two different accounting systems, there were several PS2 sales that were counted twice. The DS is ahead in reality. Don't ask me to explain it, it's complicated..

I doubt Nintendo is gonna stop their next console just to upstage PS2, I don't think they care.

I think it would make sense while Switch is still hot to release another console 7 YEARS LATER. which is a long time.

There's nothing traditional about the switch. Traditionally home consoles would not also act as a handheld or even had a portable only version.
Of course they would. Since the Switch is a hybrid, it can both as as an exclusive, and thus traditional, handheld console. Or as an exclusive, and thus tradicional, home console. Playing exactly the same way as a PS5 would or vice versa. Minus the power disparencies.

And at the end of the day, both are consoles. And both being consoles, they both directly compete with each other. So even if the Switch didn't have the power to play as a tradicional home console, which it does, they would still compete directly with each other. And thus making any distinction between them as if they don't compete is silly to put it lightly.

so what feature is it missing a "traditional" home console should have? multiple controllers connecting to 1 console, check, tv out by default and not that weird windowed non-sense of the psp? check, lacking features makes a product worse not better,
also, there have been 2 other consoles with handheld variants in the past, face it, Sony just doesn't have the engineering skill to make proper power-smart consoles, they somehow lucked out on the ps1, but really the ps2 was super pathetic as it needed a 75 watts 2 years after the slim efficient 27 watts Dreamcast, sony just couldn't compete so they had to get wasteful and lose money like a bullying mega corp against smaller companies tend to , microsoft is just as bad, 100 watt xbox and they just got worse from there,
plus ehhhh I'm stuck on the tv with both, practically dinosaurs , only the steamdeck is a proper modern device, versatile, efficient,
I buy xbox and playstation because they offer compelling software, but I wish they would get out of the wasteful dinosaur game and get into the efficient versatile hybrid game, mmmmm a 12 watt hybrid playstation , sure a hit in graphics, but a small price to pay for versatility and lower power consumption, that'd be soooooo much better than the current ps5, funny thinking about it , sony and Microsofts failure to produce efficient consoles has wastes billions of barrels of oil a year, kind of gross as it's waste just so mega-corp can bully smaller businesses.

A traditional home console isn't a tablet you carry around. Not only that it's weak ass hardware which traditional home consoles are relatively powerful.

What nonsense is this? You've veered off and are now ranting about efficient consoles. Sony can't engineer a power smart console? Which 12watt console can push 10tf with an
8 core CPU?
Sony a bullying megacorp? It was Nintendo who betrayed Sony like the lowlife backstabbers they are. Nintendo was one of the worse companies for 3rd parties with their restrictive licensing agreements. That's why every developer and his dog ran to Sony ans PSX.
Also no home console has an inbuilt screen, powersupply/battery and controllers attached to the console.

The Switch is designed as a handheld first and a home console after. It's whole power envelope is based on portability.

It can be played exclusively as a home console or a handheld. That's why its a hybrid, regardless if it has a baterry or not.

Phil Spencer, CEO and head honcho of Xbox, the highest authority from xbox, admitted that they compete directly against Nintendo and Sony. Or do you think you know more than him.

Tbh Nintendo shouldn’t release hardware until they see where switch sales fall this Fall/Winter….. if they are outselling ps5 world wide it’s Truely a testimate to how perfectly right they got the handheld hybrid formula…. No wonder Sony is trying to get a handheld out there again.
Nintendo cares that their profits are falling, they won't delay a successor just because they are outselling the PS5 (not that they will do worldwide).
Lets just agree to disagree!
I think we'll have to,but you're going to be disappointed regularly if you always expect new games to result in a hardware boost.
The ps5 takeover continues although it's domination of the traditional home console market is threatened this week due to the massive Xbox increase. Great to finally see some competition.

Sounds like a fire sale to me.
Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all compete together in the console market, and both Sony and Microsoft have said Nintendo is their competitor.
I highly doubt that Street Fighter 6 can't run on Switch. It's a fighting game, they can reduce a lot of the asset quality to get there if they wanted.
The team have said they want to bring the game to Nintendo hardware. I think Japanese publishers are making a mistake by not utilising Switch specialist studios like Western publishers often do.

I really don't think Nintendo cares about that.
Remember when that 🤡 from Install Base Forum Said Ps5 would be selling 10K a week from May onwards 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Peope on Install Base are generally a lot more positive about PS5 hardware than that person is.

I don't expect out of every new release, only of those that have potential. But yeah, being dissapointed now and again is part of analysing and keeping up with sales numbers.

Bingo!
A home console can only be used exclusively as a home console only. Doesn't negate the fact the Switch is a handheld device and was designed that way.
What has this got to do with Phil Spencer and competing? Phil Spencer says all sorts of Bullshit to suit his agenda. They also said Nintendo is for kids.

They are definitely all in the same market. It seems strange to say that they don’t compete.
I almost bought two ps5 games last week. Instead I picked up Zelda for the switch. Sony would have gotten my money but instead it went to Nintendo.

Yes but it has been since the Wii that a home console exclusively only able to be played at home has sold 2 million a year. That was the initial point and quite impressive.

Calling it now, the Switch is an evergreen console.... perhaps no new model until 2025 at the earliest.

I think we are close enough to FF XVI launch that we can now speculate how much it will do physically first week.

COMG numbers as of today for XVI is at 100 points. Assuming that it ends somewhere near 120 points, I think its fair to assume that XVI should sell somewhere between 120k to 240k physically first week, which would be a disastrous performance for a FF game in Japan, even if you assume that the digital split is 50%. I think the lowest selling mainline FF, and that's physical only, is around 700k.

So what are your guys prediction for the first week sales of XVI?
COMG is Fucking irrelevant.

Zelda sold over 2M units in Japan but physical was only 1.2M.

'Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has reportedly sold over 1,119,502 physical copies in Japan during its first week after launch.'

'It sold over 2.24 million units counting the digital sales.'

50% Digital on Switch, PlayStation is very likely more Digital oriented so anyone concern trolling over COMG should be warned by mods.

PS5 hardware sales are good. But the fact you can't take it on the go doesn't make its sales more impressive. Just like Switch's lack of power doesn't make its sales more impressive.
Exactly. The ps5 is an expensive and powerful home console. The ps3/4/2/1 was this also. It's not some cheap hybrid.
Switch OLED has a similar price to PS4, and sold more last year than PS4 did in any year. So its not a "cheap hybrid" that makes it successful. Its games.

Zelda had a very high digital ratio due to its price and the vouchers. Most Switch games have lower digital ratios.

A 50% digital split for FFXVI will be about what to expect. We will have to see how indicative COMG is of its physical sales. So far COMG is indicating that the demo is having a very positive impact.

You're talking about a buffed switch Vs a last Gen console. You boys are trying way too hard to convince us the switch is a traditional home console. A hybrid will never be that.

Even the Wii despite it's drastic differences was way more traditional then a switch. Not seen the GameCube has Nintendo had the balls to take on Sony head to head.

It does make it more impressive because of the culture there and because of the market for those being in decline until now.

Was funny when PS5 outsold it in Japan that one week or so and everyone here was talking like it's dead and there was no way Switch was also affected by chip shortages and how now (then) that PS5 no longer has major shortages it will reign supreme in Japan forever and ever... And here we are ~7 months later with Switch still able to perform like this on its 7th year without even a new release bump. Though I do expect the drop will be swift and major when it happens so they shouldn't wait for it to happen before gearing up for the successor folks were definitely 110% wrong back then.

Correct, I'm proving that price is not the reason PS4 didn't sell over 2 million in a single year, and is not the reason that Switch did.

Even the Wii despite it's drastic differences was way more traditional then a switch. Not seen the GameCube has Nintendo had the balls to take on Sony head to head.

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all recognize each other as their main competitors, and try different strategies to effectively compete with each other and be successful.

When Sony decided to make the PS2 and game console / DVD player combo, it wasn't because they didn't "have the balls" to go with face to face with Nintendo with a traditional dedicated console. It was because they knew it would deliver extra value for customers and help them with sales. Same with what Nintendo did with motion controls and touch screens, what Microsoft did with online gaming and gamepass etc. etc.

PS2 still competed with GameCube even though the GameCube was more traditional. PS3 still competed with the Wii even though the PS3 was more traditional.

It does make it more impressive because of the culture there and because of the market for those being in decline until now.
It is selling faster than PS3, PS4 and PS Vita so Sony is moving in the right direction hardware wise.

If ps4 was 50$ cheaper the year it sold 1.9m it would have. Price matter's. It really helped the weak ass Wii and hurt the powerful ps3.

I never said value wasn't more important but price most certainly is a barrier.
And that barrier is much higher than what the PS4 did. That's why trying to explain PS4's sales an "expensive console" and Switch's sales as a "cheap hybrid" doesn't work.

Mate you're on cloud cuckoo land. For every 50usd cheaper the ps4 would have been it would have sold more. And like I said it would have sold over 2m the year it did 1.9m.

The fact ps5 is going to do over 2M at such a high price is incredible.

I'm not saying PS4 wouldnt have sold more. I'm saying it is possible for something the price of PS4 to do over 2 million in a year, since Switch OLED costs more than a PS4 did and it did over 2 million in a year.

That's not cloud cuckoo land. That's reality

It's not possible in Japan with the games ps4 had and that was proven. However with those games it could have done it if slightly cheaper.

The biggest factor is the fact it's a traditional home console and not either a portable device or hybrid in a market like Japan where portability is key.

Ps5 this year gonna break some nice record's. It will be the first traditional home console since the ps2 to sell over 2M. Can't wait to see it.
