It didn't hit that elusive 90 rating but who cares it's clearly not a turd if it's 87 and settles around 85 probably.

I dont get his issue either.

I actually stopped going back and forth with him and he seems to be an obvious troll at this point

"Stop misquoting"

"I didn't"

"You clicked reply!"

No shit. That's how replies work. I was referring to you saying "Lets stop misquoting please."

Kill Me Smh GIF
When you quote someone, but turn their words into something else than what was actually said, thats misquoting lolll but enough of this you and the other guy have made it clear you will not budge on being certain of your feelings for this game despite having not played a second. So have at it 👍

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Give me that tool you're using to measure the amount of hype.

You in particle were showering both of them with praise even before you got your hands on them. Equal treatment and love for both of them I'd say. I guess your hype for all games from MS are the same :p

And now the games are out and Starfield has universal acclaim.

Glad we got that out of the way.

Outlets giving this lower scores than FFXVI is amusing to me.

I think the scores are fine, IGN US giving it a 7 while the international IGN sites were giving it 10/10 is expected from such a low-rent publication.

I bought a Series S just for this game, so I’ll be jumping in to experience it myself but have to say I’m a little disappointed that the exploration is sub-par compared other Bethesda games.

A good game gets good reviews. Even a good game has its flaws, always. And there will always be someone for whom these flaws will be particularly important and will evaluate the game worse than others. The rest will just enjoy the shit out of it for weeks to come. Does exploration suck? Ok, as long as there are more interesting things to focus on, one can live with that. Overhyped? If someone hasn't learned how to deal with marketing, it's his problem, it's not like we don't deal with it every day.

It seems like everything that could be said has already been said, is it that hard to move on already?
I mean, some people here spin so hard they'll soon see the back of their own heads.

Everything indicates that Bethesda delivered, whether the average score is 88, 87 or who the fuck cares, it's here and it's good enough, get over it.

Can someone explain to me the exploration criticism? I was gonna watch a Alanah Pearce video on it but I can't find it anymore lol
You can’t fly around solar systems basically ala Elite Dangerous or NMS.

But it was already known fact about the game for a long time…It’s been shouted from the the rooftops for months that it’s not a space sim, that it’s not No Man’s Sky; it’s a Bethesda RPG through and through that has some space sections.

It’s like Cyberpunk: ‘oh my god it’s got driving, so it’s obviously cyberpunk genre GTA!’ then get surprised pikachu face when it’s actually open-world RPG in the vein of Deus Ex….when that was basically what they were showing the whole time up to it other than the flashy cinematic trailers.

Some of the criticisms I've seen about "space exploration" have been a little ridiculous. Some were complaining that you don't have the ability to traverse an entire solar system, but why would you want to spend hours flying through nothing? They'd complain about that too.

So after 8 years of waiting, Bethesda created the most challenging job for modders ever. Seems like they should have never mess with anything space and just do fallout 5 with vehicle combat.

I admit that I was hoping for it to be like MS flight sim but I never considered that there will be nothing to look at

A well it's a good game after all. You can gather resources, explore, build, ... but you don't have to do it. That's actually great 👍

The couple I read say it’s the procedural generation that hits it. Doesn’t have the same impact as a crafted, planned world. Not a huge bother I’m sure it’ll be fun all the same, the vibes this game gives me with the “NASApunk” theme are right up my alley.

This thread should embrace the fact that 2 things can be true, before people start losing their accounts.

A) Starfield was overhyped and has things about it that are super disappointing.

B) Starfield is still a good/great game, that does things that people will still enjoy.

Even with the disappointment elements I'm still excited to experience it for myself and decide what I think about it.

I just cancelled my Constellation Edition pre-order from BB. I've spent the better part of the day watching YouTube reviews and playthroughs. The game looks decent enough, but not spectacular. The planet surfaces appear to be very same, same and I honestly think they look more barren than those in the PS4 launch edition of No Man's Sky from seven years ago. I will definitely pick up the standard edition in a week so I can finally play the game, but I can't justify spending $300 on an edition that's main feature is a bare-bones, (semi) smartwatch with what appears to be very limited functionality. Even a basic, entry level Apple Watch boasts more features than this thing. I'm really digging the Starfield controller I got from Microsoft and I am still going to get the Series X Starfield wrap. However, a $300 edition with a gimmicky watch? I'd rather save my money and buy more games. As always, YMMV.

But you're totally right.

Same dude said Elden Ring was trash and only plays COD. Meaningless post and youtuber lol.
Actually this guy is more like a comedian / well known troll.

He is playing character.... he has been at it for years and its not supposed to be taken serious. Its parody lol.

I've watched more of the negative reviews and I think a common thread with its problems is the old janky Gamebryo engine underneath it all.

Bethesda really need to move away from that engine that has its roots in their games from 10 years ago for the next Elder Scrolls. Competing with Larian and what they are doing with BG3's engine is also an unenviable task.

I agree that flying through space for any long duration would be boring because space is devoid of anything. I think people are upset that you can't fly in the atmosphere of planets and land. In a perfect world you could "hyper speed" from planet to planet and choose where to land. Instead players are geared toward fast traveling from planet to planet without ever taking flight. It erases the larger grandeur Starfield tries to convey

Yeah I was surprised by their approach, but the game is fundamentally an RPG, not an exploration sim, so I'm not too disappointed.

I think it's a lot to ask of a game of this amount of content at this fidelity though, look at the state of Star Citizen lol.

Its what I have been told as well without asking why

Blast through main story line then get into New Game +. its well worth it so its likely what I will do

I guess there’s something important story related to getting to NG+? Something that changes/improves the game a lot?

Open world space games are really begging to be picked apart by critiques.

"Are the planets earth sized?" so bigger than every open world game combined x1000, and that's just for one planet!
"Can you space walk?" well the physics and gameplay would have to be nuanced enough for it to be it's own game.
"Can you fly continuously from planet surface to deep space?" How much procedural generation can you withstand before you fall asleep?

It's like trying to make a good Superman game. Just impossible because of the scope of the source material. Bad idea. Seems like Todd did about as good as you could hope with console the restrictions he had. The reviews hit all the notes I was afraid of, so at least I don't have to buy the SE. I'll grab it next weekend though. Gives me time to polish off Armored Core.

Ground to sky flight in Battlefront 2 was superb and from what I’ve seen of NMS ground to space flight looks excellent. It’s definitely an aspect to video games that has always excited me. It’s a very rare thing.

Jesus Christ that's so fucking stupid.

If it's as impactful as people say it should be a story mechanic where it resets you back to beginning for story reasons.

People who don't follow gaming media closely aren't going to know to do this (it's still a stupid thing to need to do). I know my wife will be super pissed when she finds out that half of the game is locked behind NG+.

Beelining the main quest is now how Bethesda games are supposed to work.

I guess I'll try it too. But I must say, I get a 'vibe' from a game after I've seen credits roll that makes me much less interested in going back for more. And I can see the same happening here.

Going back through on ng+ with some extra powers or something is all well and good, but if I already saw the 'epic' story conclusion, which supposedly is the best stuff in the game. It's hard for me to be interested in going to talk to random NPC's for side quests after I've already experienced the 'peak' of the game. And I'll still have unbeaten BG3 and AC6 to get back to as well.

As a decade long RPG space simulator I guess it doesn't matter in the end. But I now feel like regardless of how I play I'm selling my first playthrough short.
