God of War: Laufey Announced

I was thinking here and a spinoff that would made ppl really jump into the hype train would be a GoW Deimos, Kratos brothers life from Ares kidnaping till Tanathos imprisonment.

That would be a great GoW spinoff

They just showed the intro to the game, they did exactly the same with 2018. They'll show more gameplay and story trailers at a later date. But by now I would have thought most people know what God of War games play like. Well, kinda, this one is slightly different
I guess that was kind of my point though - right now we're more or less left guessing that this game will play similarly and have the same type of game mechanics as the other games in the series. We assume it will (and that's probably a safe assumption) but we don't know for sure, especially since it's a spin-off game.

Will this game have loot? Armor upgrades? Cosmetics? Skill upgrades paths? Unlockable move sets for more combat variety? Will it have metroidvania elements? Compelling puzzles? Maybe!

geary geary 's original question was essentially "What I saw showed very little actual gameplay or player agency, why do people like these games?" and darthkarki darthkarki just fired back with "Well, it's a God of War game so it'll have tons of other stuff they didn't show". Which may be true, but we don't actually know yet.

All I'm saying is I would have loved a short sizzle reel after this introduction that showed off some of the game's elements from later in the game to assure me that this game isn't just going to be one long Disney film.

Not a spin off so it will be just as big as the other games. I was saying similar because it's a sword, magic, she's faster, lighter, jump button so aerial attacks/juggles. I'm pretty 100% sure it will have armour upgrades, sword upgrades (they hinted at that with the guy that was rescued), magic upgrades etc. I'd say anything that was in 2018/Ragnarok in relation to skills, upgrades etc will be in this game.

Genuine question here... Watching the Wolverine and GoW trailers, do people actually enjoy these kinds of games? There's almost no player agency, everything feels like cutscenes and elaborate animations triggered by pressing a single button.
They worked with gow '18 and spiderman due to them having a great story, and being fresh new game style at the time.

Now they are starting to outstay their welcome, as all the sequels play the same. It doesn't help the stories are feminized and lame.

Sure, the target audience of this is the normies whose favorite movies are some Marvel slop, Fast and Furious or the Emoji movie.

However, that's not enough of an audience to make it profitable. The sales drop from previous games is going to be huge once the clips and memes after launch start going around. Word of mouth won't do this any favor, just like the recent Saros.

The cycle of media cope, SSM stans insulting true GOW fans and the fake sales projections will be hilarious.

Sometimes I'm not so sure about there being a target audience in these situations. This (inane, obnoxious Marvel-type quips) might just be all the writing team is capable of. There's also a certain shallowness that may think - hey, it worked for all those movies so it should work for a GoW game, right? Right? :lollipop_unamused:

Not piling on the hate train, im actually looking forward to this and thought it looked awesome just wanted to point out.
This Start Screen (which I havent seen uncompressed) is so far the least impressive one in the series.

The best is still the God of War 3 one when you start a new game.
That shit blew me away, from that screen straight into realizing ohh shit thats his game model.....to ohh shit this is one of if not the hardest openings to a video game ever.

Me thinks im just getting jaded with age but I really wanna recapture that feeling of believing im watching something prerendered and it goes into gameplay straight.
Honorable mention to Lost Odyssey for it actually being a damn transition.

I really should replay this game so I can get a good capture of this transition.

The "it's just a spin-off bro calm down" folks from earlier in the thread are in shambles

Neat I wish they would have shown any of that, but I guess I'll look forward to seeing that (or not) sometime down the line.

The problem is - they showed almost none of what makes the other games in the series great in this reveal. The few combat segments that were shown all featured that dumb flying-pirouette-while-holding-a-sword move spammed over and over again without showcasing the build depth that's present in the 2018 game. They showed zero exploration, no puzzles (unless you count "walk over to door and press L2" as a puzzle), no treasure or loot gathering. Everything was linear without any hint of alternative paths. No Breath of the Wild moment like "see that mountain, you can go there". Not even a hint of maybe a treasure box off to the side as a tease. At no point during the 20 minute "gameplay" segment did I feel like if I played this game myself that I would be able to make any choices at all that mattered, even in the slightest.

They chose to feature this first 20 minute segment of the game, instead of creating a sizzle real or an actual trailer that showed off the game's good qualities. Hell, they could have even done both.
The biggest WTF? is that Jello cube, lol.

Not inaccurate at all. I already proved it intergalactic thread. It's not 100% but very close and has the biggest number of users.
It's not close at all, you do know how these work right? They only record people who have the app then extrapolate all data based on that. The problem is, many people who have that app have it because they are likely to dislike something and so they want to see how many others disliked it also.

You can find any article online, most claim it is inaccurate. It has around 6 mil users on Chrome store page. YouTube has 2 billion users. It's around 0.4- 0.5% of youtubes userbase. It's highly inaccurate

32% dislikes, yikes!!

And as I said before, it shows different for me on my app and various other apps. All of which are inaccurate. None of the apps have even 1% of youtubes userbase. Most people with such apps are also more likely to dislike, which inherently skews the ratio. You can keep trying though, good luck:)

An entire generation of boys in the West grew up watching anime because it hasn't succumbed to the cultural inversion and still has strong male role models and stories about the hero's journey, personal development, strength and virtue.

I'm so thankful for that refusal to succumb. I've seen the efforts (bullying, threats, etc.) made to shape anime and manga into the trash we have here and also seen the flat refusal of Japanese authors, animators, etc. to go along with it. As a long time fan, I've been cheering those creators on and supporting them with my dollars by buying their works.

Cry more. Nobody cares what you think either. I'm allowed an opinion as you are. I won't be gaslit into thinking this slop being pushed on to us is OK. Don't like me? I dont give a shit. Hit the ignore button on my user name and move on.
It's not pushed onto you you clown. Sony hasn't put a gun to your head and forced you to pre-order it. It's not your cup of tea we get it. Why waste your time in this thread then?
There's games I don't like but I don't go into those threads and shit on them.

this one also closer to my number, seems like your crappy app that's wrong

You tried this with Ghost of Yotei, and now the game is outpacing Ghost of Tsushima within the same time frame. It didn't

It didn't work for the PlayStation 5 Pro or the PlayStation Portal. It didn't work for The Last of Us Part II

You're talking about a small portion of dislikes from people compared to millions who purchased these items.

Franchises can tell stories from the POV of any character in said universe. Its called expanding the lore.
This doesn't address what I said.

If a person's enjoyment of a franchise is significantly motivated by the titular character the entire franchise revolved around until now, it would be perfectly reasonable to not be interested in an entry which minimises that character.

It will be exactly another Yotei case. Decent sales but nowhere near expectations while media and plastic fans cope about it. Unlike Yotei, this game has a huge budget so I wouldn't bet it will ever be profitable.
Plus the damage done can extend well beyond just that single entry.

I think we've seen this a lot with all the dog shit tier entries in MCU and Star Wars that nobody cares about. All they do is create off-ramps for fans to nope out of the franchise and become ex-fans. It is then much harder to get those people to come back later vs if they had done nothing.

Bloody losers. This is the definition of how insignificant these internet dwellers are to the actual general public. Ghost of Yotei was ratio'd way worse than Faye. And it still sold on par with Tsushima. Shit don't matter. Faye going sell crazy when 95 metacritic drops
