Halo 4 Wish List

I'm sure people would agree with this list.

-I want strafing to be back to the way it was in at least Halo 2.
-I want the kill time to be around halo 2... currently zero bloom (right idea) is a tad faster if it is a 4 shot, but the hitboxes are huge, so it makes it easier than Halo 2.
-Keep the single shot mid range gun.
-Good Arena maps!
-Movement speed back to Halo 2 levels.
-Grenades being powerful was a good choice, but they explode too fast in reach which makes it overpowered. For example, CE had strong nades, but they gave you time to react. Either do it the Halo 3 way or CE way. Don't do it like Reach.
-Make the SMG like the shadowrun SMG.
-Option to turn off/on fall damage. Fall damage is good if it's done like CE. In Reach, you don't get punished all that much (damage taken is too low). This is why the vertical maps don't work as well as in CE. You either go all in or out. No half assing it.

I welcome new additions to spice up Halo, so long as it doesn't slow the game/kill times down (I'm looking at you Halo 3 equip and Reach). Also, no get out of jail free cards.

I really like what they have shown as far as concept art, I want MC in this massive strange world all alone for a large part of the game, with new enemies and competent story telling. Preferably with none of the previous game's enemies.

mp
run no longer an armor ability, click to run like most modern shooters
new alien weapons and the continued evolution of human weapons we saw in Reach
bloooooommmmm - seriously I love it, and also SWAT gametype
very few classic maps, build new maps from the ground up with the character that has been missing since Halo 2's maps
if they keep Forge I think there needs to be a better way of sharing map variants

I've given a lot of thought on how Halo 4 should keep the fundamentals of Halo intact but still open enough freedom in its basic combat system to allow the expansion of gameplay.

To me Halo gameplay at its base is:

No movement penalty (aka circle strafe all you want)
Instant offensive spells in the form of grenades
Instant Melee
Precision Aiming
Run and gun
Little to no randomness

To me the additions that have not been welcomed in the community have been the ones that messes with any of the above. I.E. Equipment, bloom, armor lock, etc.

Conversely, AA such a sprint, jetpack, roll, hologram has been more or less accepted.

Going forward, any addition to the halo gameplay that respects the above basic characteristics is fine by me.

It would be okay if every weapon had iron sights that's just a cosmetic zoom.
It would be okay if every weapons had secondaries fires. (Although the controller would probably be out of buttons). It'll also be a bitch to balance.

AA should be expanded upon. Maybe a single AA can have different modes of use?

Some AA ideas.

Blast shields: Sacrifice some shields to negate explosive damage.
Force glove: Push away objects / Pull in objects? Probably should be tweaked for CTF, Skulls, etc.
Smoke grenade: Drop a smoke to conceal your retreat.
EMP field: A emp field around the user that stops vehicles and does dps to enemy shields.
Power jump: Self explanatory

The AA that your equipped with should have some heavy visual change to your FPS hud. Otherwise users would be forced to recall what AA they have before using it. Dying because you thought you had equipped a different AA equipped would be worst feeling the world.

I suggest that the entire left gauntlet / arm armor be changed to reflect what AA you have. I.E. Smoke canisters on form arm for Smoke grenade AA.

RADICAL IDEA:
Scrap AA for secondary fires on weapons. Probably would work better in the long run.

i really do appreciate what Bungie has done, but I am glad they moved on, I think the franchise is in great hands at 343i some continued foundation from the former Bungie folks that jumped over, I think this is by far whats best for the franchise at this point

I'm okay with sprint being included as a standard ability, but please don't put it on a stick. I hate how that feels. Besides, it'd mess with the classic click-to-crouch/zoom scheme. Unless they add a third stick to the 360 controller, à la 3DS. :lol

  • More Advanced Invasion Gametype
  • New features/gametypes/whatever
  • Custom Game Browser
  • Better ranking system of Halo 3 & Reach
  • Halo Waypoint Intergration
  • Better Forge Mode (heck I'll even take Reach's but the ability to change the color/style of forge pieces

No Flood, Covenant, or Forerunner tech gone mad. Instead, spaniards with a parasite.

Chief can't move and shoot at the same time, nor can he strafe.

You have to buy weapons and upgrades.

Escort missions intermittently spread throughout.

Only a passing mention of the events in the previous games.

Write Chief to be a huge goober.

Cortana is there for the first 5 minutes and the last 2. Completely disappears the rest of the time.

Switch to an inventory screen to equip and throw grenades. Enemies wait for you to finish playing around in your inventory before they resume attacking.

C'mon. It'll be the greatest game ever!

PC-exclusive turn-based top-down (/isometric/bird's eye view, whatever) RPG. See how console players like it, for once.

keep the art direction/color palette.

bring back the battle rifle. make it like the resistance 3 marksman.

optional 3rd person mode, with over the shoulder zoom. like the 3rd person in theater mode or with turrets. i always thought movement between 1st and 3rd person fit halo.

shields. handheld energy shields like the authority has in rage. make it a sword/rocket counter.

won't happen but it's a wish list..

A part of me wants to see a Halo game with a scale similar to ArmA - hundreds of NPCs fighting in one sandbox battle with different roles.

The more that I think about it, the more it makes sense for AA to be replaced by secondary fires on weapons.

BR should have the hologram ability, sniper should have the cloak ability, shotgun should have armor lock, etc.

Jetpacks should be a vehicle.

Can we get a good campaign at least? Every campaign since 3 has been god awful.

ODST was phenominal, and Reach was pretty damn good, too. Both are better than 3.

Yeah that spartan teammate AI was glorious in Reach. Hey emil, use that shotgun at range some more! Lol. Double Lol at ODST's lovey dovey ending.

Halo 2's map design

Halo 2's updated ranking system

Halo 3's control/weapon mechanics

Halo Reach's hit detection ...and jetpacks

Increased player count

new Master Chief chest armor with nipple spots

I disagree very strongly, ODST had a great setting but never capitalized on it with the HUB world being essentially lifeless and the transition to the missions being sometimes jarring.

Nothing in Reach really impacted me. Hey this character died...but I had zero investment in almost all of them other then 6. As good as Reach looks and the change up in art direction it felt very bland. Tsavo Highway alone, with its rib cage like debris architecture beats anything in either ODST or Reach. Not that Halo 3 was perfect, it's far from it but I prefer the story in 3 over any other Halo sans CE

I want the Halo 4 that Ryan Payton wanted to make.

Also:

-Less health
-No more starting every MP round with a useless weapon
-Kill cam
- an emp grenade that automatically takes down a shield of any sort
- better enemy design; this game has zero memorable enemies
- better AI; Bungie's AI might be good by xbox 1 standards but having enemies with lots of health constantly charge me isn't what I'd consider complex enemy behavior

The lifelessness was intentional; it was an abandoned city in the aftermath of a warzone. I would have liked to see more evidence of the destruction than "there's nobody here," but the general ambiance and mood of the hub was top-notch. I agree about sometimes jarring mission transitions.

Reach...Reach. Except for Jorge, who I really liked and had an awesome death with a great player punch, I didn't really like any of the rest of Noble- Emile and Kat didn't do anything to win the audience over and had laughable in-game AI, while Carter is about as interesting as toast. The plot and sequence of events doesn't make sense and contradicts previous canon when it didn't really need to. You should have SEEN Halo.bungie.org the few weeks after Reach dropped. It was hilarious, and that's coming from someone with far more in-depth knowledge of the Halo canon than any human being should have.

I disagree on the art direction, outside of some of the early missions in Reach (Winter Contingency was just boring to look at, even though the houses were fun to explore. Finding all these unique props in buildings most players wouldn't even notice was cool) New Alexandria was especially cool, and Reach had even more amazing skyboxes than the previous games. ODST had some great vistas and events going on outside the play area, such as the elevator collapsing and Downtown being glassed.

I was thinking purely in terms of campaign gameplay. Well, and general atmosphere, too. I'll agree that the plot of ODST and Reach left things to be desired, but both had pretty damn good atmosphere. They each had their distinct mood, and they played to it well.

Tsavo Highway is great, yeah, but overall the Halo 3 campaign felt pretty blah to me. Felt like I was just running through the motions... I dunno, I can't explain it well right now. Brain is fried from homework.

If Halo 4 were basically a mash up of Metroid Prime and Halo 3, my life would be so fucking complete. The story telling and exploration/atmosphere of Metroid Prime mixed with the gameplay of Halo would be utterly fantastic.

In fact, that would be too good to be true. Oh well, maybe within the next lifetime :/
