I asked this before but didnt get an answer, but what is causing those weird shadow textures coming from sources like candles or fire? Can i fix it? It's terrible. It's not always there either. I can have those ugly textures from a candle light, and the fire in the next room is just fine.

Okay after messing with the HD texture ground mod, it gives GREAT resolution detail (crisper look) with zero performance hit.

And kudos to the guy who said turn off controller [X] in the settings, HUGE boost to FPS and stuttering issues because of it!

The mods were disabled, you're right. I had to double check to see for myself. I took these 2 now and I thought they were definitely better but honestly, I don't spend a lot of time staring at the ground in this game. I took the other 4 down as they're not needed. And again, no performance hit.

So after loading these myself I don't like them.
I am not sure why but they don't seem to gel well with items in the terrain. For example your first pic, and when I was playing, made the rocks look like they are floating on the texture almost like it is water. They don't meld well together either. I am not sure why, perhaps they didn't follow the vanilla textures mixing as well as they should have. But its a most definite pass for me now. Its an amazing texture, but that isn't the only thing that makes it look good in the game.

I also got crashes, and haven't in days, the moment I installed them but that seems normal looking at the comments so far. Hopefully he looks into getting them to all meld better.

This is a good example of the issues

This is what inevitably happens with texture mods unless everything is updated at once.

Hi-res bread looks out of place on a low-res table; hi-res ground textures look out of place next to low-res rocks; etcetera.

And in addition those new ground textures clearly need further testing to avoid the problems shown above.

I've searched the thread and didn't see this question, but I've noticed that I can't give my items to followers on the PC version of Skyrim. On Xbox 360 it works just fine. I assume this is a bug, but do anyone of all the computer savvy people on Neogaf know a workaround?

If you're using a 360 pad on your PC, that could be a 1.2 thing -- I couldn't store items in chests after 1.2. You could try rolling back your exe and interface.bsa files to the old version -- links are somewhere in this thread.

Try editing these values in skyrimprefs.ini:

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=1024
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048
iShadowMapResolution=4096

I would think the first value would help most.

Sorry Enco, but that Earth looks so out of place that it should be nuked from orbit.
Haha it's definitely a love it or hate it type thing. Personally I think it looks fine. I don't mind it breaking lore or anything like that.

I'll give those textures a shot.

The HD retex is pretty sweet. Haven't seen all of the new textures but the snow and forest ground are stunning.

Definitely keeping it for now. Think I've settled on how the game looks now.

Set Gamma under the ini, 8x AA, HD retex, some other graphics mods, improved shadows under ini and Oblivion quality AO.

All of a sudden yesterday,around the western parts of the map,I was getting trees appearing like if they where light purple glowing colors,near a Giant you have to kill for a quest(he slaughtered me by the way,level 17 now so I i'll come back to this quest later lol)....I had to do the Steam verify data and cache thing,then the game did the auto detect thing,changed a few things back and disabled the occlusion stuff in nvidia inspector and now everything looks great again at 1080p,8x AA and AF with no FXAA(560Ti) on high...runs super smooth now.

I still have the companion chain quest glitch,just a few more days till I can try the console command or the resurrect option to make it start again.

It's a random bug where the game shows you the normal maps instead of the textures. A simple game restart should fix it normally.

I think we should have a 'Mod of the Week' section in the OP near the top. Maybe 2-3 mods per week.

This was in the road map that I had put in briefly last week. I asked for a volunteer if possible but seeing as there are maybe 4-5 truly good mods then I can put something up later. I know I don't have all the pics I need yet but I can cook something up later when I'm on my PC.

This is a good example of the issues

That particular texture is pretty jarring, but you can just delete or move it (fallforestleaves01 and fallforestleaves01_n) and have the vanilla texture which blends in much better.

I think the whole set could use more contrast, at medium distances they look kind of uniform and flat.

Oh my god. MINDBLOWN.
Also, press ALT to stamina sprint (or rebind to a better key, I set it to SHIFT as you rarely need to walk). On horses too :p

Funny how the game doesn't teach you basics like that, not even when you're running away from a dragon in the tutorial...

1.
4GB Skyrim- Skyrim4GB is a tool to load Skyrim with the Large Address Aware
executable flag set so the entire 4GB Virtual Memory Address Space can be used
by the game.

2.
Vurts Skyrim Flora Overhaul- Skyrim Flora Overhaul is a WIP mod project dedicated to overhauling the Skyrim flora.

3.
Serious HD Retexture Landscape Skyrim- Roughly 80% total conversion of land/ground textures. Fairly newer and in WIP status but impressive none the less.

4.
Realistic Water Textures by GAF's own isoku- Divides Skyrim's water into three categories: puddles, rivers, oceans and gives each of them their own high resolution texture. Waterfalls, foam, and blacksmith's trough have also been replaced. To see the comparison images better, right click the thumbnail and open the image in a new tab/window. Files that reduce the splashing of objects in water have been provided as an optional download. Make sure all water reflections are enabled whether or not this mod is installed for the biggest difference in water quality.

World map in full 3D- This mod changes camera controls in ingame map view so it becomes possible to zoom in almost to the ground.

I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS ON IMPROVING THIS.

Being this is the first time I did this, I know the banner could be a little better and these aren't all exactly new from this week but it's a start.

Don't suggest stuff with obvious issues like the ground textures, use links for pics since many people have already seen the stuff by being thread regulars and thus seeing nothing new in the post to begin with... People who haven't seen it can just click... My 2 cents.

Also, I'll ask again, none of you get the night lights issue with the 4GB launcher where as you get closer they sort of get an obvious little bump in intensity or something? Only the switch is obvious, not the before or after. I thought it was another game LOD issue but it went away after I stopped using it, and I didn't see much benefit anyway.

I find those good even with issues. It's more or less opinion based anyways so based on my own readings and findings, I could have chosen several others. The ground textures are more than worthy of having despite the blending issues which can be fixed by removing specific parts of the mod as noted on the mod page. I understand the sentiment though. This format is WIP as it is. We'll see where it goes from here.

Alright.. .I WANT to install the 3d map deal... i installed it's lesser version.. but i don't know if i could deal with losing the city maps in the process...

Can anyone who has it installed tell me if they are annoyed by this or it becomes no problem later on?

Yeah found out about the sprinting through the menu. I remember reading in the thread about hotkeys but I thought it just meant the Q menu. Damn this will make things so much better.

Smaller images is the only thing that can be changed.

The ground textures are brilliant. Not perfect but still very good. The snow is out of this world. Either way, no way everyone will agree with all mods posted. Also, the header should be shrunk down. I can try make one if you like liquid.

I've tried for a month to get that to work... doesn't work.... I have the no clouds command line in my ini file and it won't work either.

I'm currently stuck with the shitty PS3 port, and I'm looking to switch over to the PC version. Anyway, my wife's computer has these specs.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.70ghz

RAM: 4GB

Graphics Card: NVIDA GeForce 9500GT

About how will the game run. I don't want to throw down (another) $60 only to have the game run like shit (not as bad as the PS3 version, though).

It won't run. The 9500GT is absolutely ancient. Sorry dude.

Don't think I've had that issue. At least I haven't noticed something that made me think there's something wrong.

Not a fan of the mod personally. Takes out some of the fun of exploring. I can see it helping with getting through mountains though.

What jubbly said. You could probably just about run it but it won't be smooth.

Alright, thanks guys.

Guess, I'll hope (and pray) that Bethesda can fix the PS3 version (although I think there's a better chance of the Colts winning the Super Bowl this year then that happening).

So under landscape you have all the files? Or another folder?

There's no necessary activation.

I'm running on a 9600 GT and a 2.4ghz C2D and getting 40-60 average. He'll be fine if it performs similarly in play and not graphs.
LOD set pretty high, textures set to high, and passable shadows. Running at ~720 (res cropped down for overscan on my TV)
