13./00. [WII] Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games <SPT> (Nintendo) {2011.12.08} (¥5.800) - 30.222 / NEW

These mini-game compilations are losing their luster in Japan even with the 2 biggest gaming mascots attatched. Good news for most gamers.

Not really... there are at least 3 new ones on the market right now, and Wii Party is a bundled game this year.

To be fair, it's not 2012 yet.

Eeeh, the fact is that Winning Eleven is not so big on Nintendo consoles due to Konami's policy during these last years.
DS and Wii definitely haven't been the top WE machines, but the 3DS launch game seems to have done better than "hide me!"

Sonic is dead in Japan? Is he at least more relevant than Alan or Crash Bandicoot?

Who?

Also, I think at their peaks Crash was bigger than Sonic ever was. I've only been really following Media Create sales since like 2007 or so, and don't recall ever seeing a Sonic title over 50k.

First few GCN/GBA releases did decent, then he ran off a cliff.

The four lines that sold anything in recent years are the Olympic games.

It's crazy too, since from what I remember, SEGA does full effort translations (this is a very weird thing to say given Sonic is a game developed in Japan) even though the sales kind of don't support that.

I meant the blue slime guy off of Dragon quest. I read nintendo power back in the day so I thought his name was Alan haha

LTTP discussion?
We saw this trend with Twilight Princess! Japan is just tired of the main series if it's not an innovative HH spin-off! It's current sales aren't that compelling within Europe either. The series remains today as a mostly American beloved series where the series always sells what it deserves and that puts a warm feeling in my heart. :D
Aonuma/Miyamoto must be heartbroken (again!) that the series can no longer get the love it deserves in the homeland.

If I may, I will try and 'graph-age' the series sales back to the original; US vs. Japan to see this transition...

SOnic was never that big in Japan even the original Mega Drive titles which were million sellers each in the States were far from overseas. I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Adventure (original DC) is their highest selling title.

Crash 2 and 3 were million sellers in Japan.

Vita's backwards compatibility with digital psp titles (and eventual ps1 titles) is most assuredly helping me with my purchase decision. In Japan I think it's a little different though (could be wrong here and correct me if needs be) as digital adoption is less prevalent.

I love the fact that I can play Peacewalker on the Vita with twin thumbsticks. Or MonHun. Or Phantasy Star Portable 2. And I think Dissidia is going to look pretty sexy on that screen. So while all of the above is great for me I don't know that it's going to help much in Japan.

I still think the Vita could top the PSP's first year sales if the games continue to get released at a decent rate. And that leaves me to wonder what, if anything, Sony has in the way of announcements for the Vita as we head into 2012 that is Japan centric.

I could see stuff like Unit 13 or Dust 514 (didn't they say they were doing a Vita version?) taking off elsewhere but I don't see Japan taking a shine to either one of them.

So what's the difference between regular Dynasty Warriors and the Vs game? What kind of numbers can we expect?

A whole bunch of bombas in that list, not to mention likely C-tier or worse quality games. This is why list threads are silly. 3DS doesn't need people defending it with shovelware titles to justify that, yes 3DS is doing great and will continue to do fantastic like its predecessor in 2012.

I agree that's a great lineup. Personally I am getting:

- Ace Combat
- Bio Hazard Revelations
- Labyrinth
- Threatrhythm Final Fantasy
- Hatsune Miku
- Metal Gear Solid 3

Damn Minish Cap sold like crap for a handheld zelda.

The only bombs I see are Rhythm Thief, and that Fatal Frame spin-off (do we know anything about that game? I don't think there's even been a trailer...).

Hatsune Miku and RE:R will do mighty fine, Dynasty Warriors will do okay-ish at worst, and Love Plus will probably sell quite well.

I don't know about Labyrinth or Tekken, they might do okay they might do meh. MGS 3D will probably end up doing better than MGS HD despite being a janky mess.

The 999 sequel and Harvest Moon are rather niche so it's obvious they'll do lower number, but I doubt they'll be outright bombs.

Has there ever been a good cumulative Nintendo japan sales chart? Covering all their big and moderate successes?

I think it is going to be important to see how long it will take Nintendo to release a successful original in-house game for the 3DS. The DS had Brain-Age, English Training, Nintendogs, and Tomodachi Collection all become million sellers.

Wow@that list, the only thing I see selling decently is Love Plus and Threatrhythm (I hope this bombs hard tho), the rest go from bomba to megabomba.

It's pretty much a completely new Dynasty Warriors game, but one heavily reusing assets from a past main game, in this case, DW 6. It's very similar to SW Chronicles (which used assets from SW3) in that sense. It's not just a new version of DW 6 with additions, but it's clearly a cheaper product than a new main entry. SW Chronicles barely reached 100k in the end, I think. DW Vs will be released to a larger userbase though so it could do better.

I really don't want RE:R to bomb. I preordered it weeks ago on Amazon. It deserves to sell very well - it looks awesome.

Have you seen that game? full price for that? it deserves to bomb IMO.

Did Elite Beat Agents and the Ouendan games deserve to bomb? Besides, Theatrhythm seems to be full of fan-service, unlockables and stuff. Hopefully it'll sell loads so that the West can taste it too.

I don't remember Ouendan 2 bombing, did it?

PuzZelda Bombathon.... Hahahahahahahahah! I love it. The boycott is working! How long until Aonuma "retires"? Hahahaha. I won't be happy until he is fired. He has no business making video games. Zelda: Shizzleward Sword.

This will be the Zelda game to end the almost two decades of suck. No more OoT! Ding-dong that shit is dead, open your eyes, get out of bed!
