Guess Atlus USA's next game reveal

Well, technically Gungnir would be the 4th release in the Dept. Heaven series as well ;)
I figured that to be the case. Golfham, these clues just keep being ambiguous. If it had put series in quotes that would automatically point to Gungnir, but they didn't. >_<

Also we need a status update on NichM's arm(s?).

I'm guessing tomorrow's going to be sent via an Atlus Faithful email or something.

I wonder if they'll announce the title tomorrow in the email. Maybe they'll wait until next Friday to tell everyone what it is so it can be a Christmas present to everyone.

Nah they'll just say something like it's a game published by Atlus in Japan.

Since a few people are still a bit confused, the "next clue" picture at the bottom right refers to where the next clue will be posted.

I'll shit myself if it's both.

Kidding. But I will shit myself if Persona 4 The Golden isn't localized next year.

Atlus USA localized Overclocked really quickly so my guess is that they'll do the same for P4. It's probably beneficial to them to have these games release close to the system launch since there wouldn't be many RPGs a potential buyer can choose from.

Overclocked came out in August... quite a ways beyond when it should have. :\

Yeah, but I don't think Overclocked worked out too well for them. Hopefully Persona 4: The Golden will do better.

Did sell out fairly quickly though, even though it seems to have gotten an extra two print runs. Still, I imagine P4 would dwarf Devil Survivor Overclocked, plus the DD route ensures people can still get it years from now (unless the Vita is the most spectacular failure ever... but it's really hard to top the Virtual Boy there.)

Hmm, I didn't realize that. Was it delayed? For some reason I remember Atlus announcing it as a launch title.
Probably just launch window, you stretch it to within the first half year and it still applies. Certainly moreso than Kid Icarus, which seems timed to be celebrating being a year old instead.

Oh right, I think they outright said it was going to be a small print run, so maybe it has been profitable for them. Unfortunately, I don't think they will ever have anything ever top Trauma Center: Second Opinion, in terms of launch window releases.

Dept Heaven uses Roman Numerals too.
That's true, but if we are going by what specific roman numeral Gungnir uses, that would be IX, considering it's the ninth "episode" of Dept. Heaven. (ie. It's the forth game in the Dept. Heaven series, but not the IVth, if that makes any sesne.)

And usually, people wouldn't use roman numerals to refer to somethings release order, so I think this clue actually leans more towards Growlanser. Plus, if we are counting spin-off games, Gungnir isn't even the forth release.

Growlanser IV on the other hand is the forth release in the series, and it uses the roman numeral IV. So, c'mon Growlanser!
/both!

They'd pretty much have to have P4 out on launch day or a week or two later. That WOULD trump it, I'm sure, especially with how Trauma Center seems to have faded into irrelevance while Persona definitely hasn't.

Point, so it's a curve ball in that regard. I wouldn't qualify the spin-offs, if only because they aren't numbered under Dept Heaven, much like how those Ewok Star Wars movies aren't given Episode numbers (let along the plethora of EU works...)

I'm really hoping that it's Gungnir, unless there's an upcoming 3DS version of the game they're going to be bringing over or something... I know they've passed on all three Yggdra spinoffs, which is quite frustrating even if Yggdra is my least favorite Dept. Heaven game, but come on, we should at least get the main titles. :(

Well, it isn't even a launch title in Japan, so I don't see that happening.

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere....

I hope it's both game or that at least it's Growlanser IV because the hints point to "G____r IV" and it would be unforgivable trolling if it's not GL IV.

My GIFs are ready for all possible outcomes

I kinda hope it's not Growlanser just to see your reaction.

So idle curiosity, is there even a third possible title to fit this? SRPG kind of nixes Fsteak Persona 4: The Golden name shuffling and the IV clue kind of limits us otherwise.

Just want to make sure there isn't some mysterious third possibility we're all overlooking in our expected disappointment.

If it's Growlanser IV, that'd be amazing. But there's a 95% chance it isn't.

It's probably Gungnir though. As indicated, it is a 4th game in its "series". Additionally, Atlus brought all of STING's games over.

However, this is pretty cruel to those who have been asking Atlus for a long time for Growlanser games. Wonder how long they plan on stringing them along like this.

Let's wait until the reveal before accusing Atlus of anything.

Well, to be fair they're currently stringing along both fanbases. So the accusation is not totally baseless.

Right, but you have to think they're doing that on purpose. It might just be an elaborate Growlanser troll, but there's always the chance that they're making the clues deliberately vague to surprise us with a double announcement.

I wouldn't be surprised if, in the event it's not a double reveal, that the brains behind this game just forgot about Growlanser IV or Gungnir fitting the bill as well.

With how carefully the clues have been worded to support both titles, I cannot believe that.

I wonder if packing two psp games together as a collection let's them sell it as a retail vita product

Seperate downloads on psn for the psp/vita but retail as vita only. I wonder if sony would allow that

I don't necessarily think they're that carefully constructed; take the solution and start working backwards to build clues. Blinders on as you know the answer already so you're not really searching for possible solutions to fit your own clues.

That said, I do agree that a double reveal makes a lot of sense and it seems to keep pointing at it. "Coincidences don't exist" and all. Just saying that I can see how someone got to those four clues from the answer they started with without it being an elaborate troll.

...though, I was trying to think up another similar scenario with the same four clues (entry, genre, final letter, first letter) and couldn't so :/

All of Sting's games you say ?
Where are my Gloria Union and Blaze Union then ?

Unless it is a double reveal, there's really no way this can end in any way other than ugly. One of the two fanbases is gonna be mad.

On the flipside a double reveal would get Atlus a lot of niche dollars, that's for sure.
