spiral swords best dhc after storms, amirite?
I'd rather DHC into a trenchcoat than a blizzard.

Spiral Swords, Hailstorm and Spell of Vishanti are the 3 best DHCs in the game.
Definitely.

Speaking of DHCs, my favorite DHC duo has to be Strider's Legion > Dante's Devil Trigger. Free, safe 50/50 into a full combo that is only avoidable with a super jump. So good. Shame I only get it when I run Strider on point.

Speaking of Spell of Vishanti, my special tech for it works with my new team. When I was playing Strange when the game came out, I'd try to time Vishanti so that I'd get hit right when it comes out so I could cross counter it and combo another one into it. With that idea in mind, I applied it to Wesker. Since random Phantom Dance is super shitty and won't beat anything, I figured I'd try it with THCs.

Yup, I can THC against any move from 3/4ths screen(maybe more) and Wesker gets tagged, lazer arrow tracks and BIONI AHHHGH is invincible and causes spinning knockdown that I can then follow up with OTG gunshot for around one million damage for 3 bars. Considering how great of a meter builder Wesker is and I almost never use hyper meter with him, it's a cool situational tool to have on hand.

I've been working on my defensive tools with Wesker a lot lately, I'm hoping that more aggressive counters along with a few unique resets and approaches will set me apart from other Weskers. I'm probably the only Wesker that uses low shot as a poke.

Someone using Karst's team, figured out some Soul Fist mid screen combo:

Yeah, I know BMeister from the forums. I'm glad he's finding some good stuff. Relaunching with Morrigan via that method just hit the forums about a week ago. I haven't had time to mess with it. I was so proud of finally mastering my new Morrigan bnb...

Wolverine's Berserker Slash doesn't have the priority that it appears to have. It's actually well within the arc of his slash that shows up graphically.

Max was at EVO, got eliminated by Floe and ClakeyD. Max has been at WNF several times.

I don't know why you have to be a top player to put out instructional videos. If you are a top player... you don't need instructional videos it's for those who actually need it. It's also difficult enough participating in tournaments regularly, training and playing the game while also putting out video content (with high productions as well). I guess props to Jago as he finds the balance in everything.
Yeah, every now and then someone tries to give me shit for not playing in tournaments yet trying to teach people Dormammu. It's not like the guide is for the JWongs of the world, it's for people trying to understand what he has available to him. I don't think you need to be a great player to share what's out there.

Marriage, work and editing. Putting on productions like 'Assist Me' can take upwards of weeks in advance to prepare, then execute over the span of several days and weekends. I don't even want to go into detail about the post work. Weekends are also my primary source of time when editing. I'm not sure if people realize that I'm the one editing, sound mixing, doing special effects, writing, capturing, commentating and playing in all the videos I make.

It's not that I don't dislike going to tournaments by any means, I actually thoroughly enjoy it and placed top 8 at WNF early in MVC3 and won a local tournament with Jint, LLND and Hugo101 earlier in the MVC3 season.

Things just had to take priority after a while. It was either, 'edit this fight sequence between Wesker and Doom' or 'Go to WNF tonight' and I take the prior. I don't really value myself as being a top player, and avidly mention in videos of the past that I'm not a tournament spectacle and don't really wish to be. I'm just a guy, like any of you reading, who has been following fighting games for over half his life and eventually chose to do something with it.

I don't find getting wins to be extremely valuable. I find that the one person that never touched a fighting game before, or the person who played only SF4 and took a chance with 3rd Strike/MVC/older games because he/she saw a video of mine is what I value. Teachers don't have to be Vincent Van Gough to teach art, Coaches don't have to be Michael Jordan to coach basketball, and fighting game advocates don't have to be Justin Wong to make tutorials. It's about sharing passion for something, the love of the game, with others and hoping that passion spreads.

Holy shit that was long, done with the rant.
Nice post.

Played a lot of games today.

I started with a 75% win ratio, and ended with a 60% win ratio. I had times I was going on a 5+ win streak, but ultimately I kept going down bit by it. How come? Lack of knowledge for match ups? Nope the only character that I feel inexperienced with in the cast is good Spiderman players. Was it getting happy birthdayed or level 3 x factor cheapness of some sorts? Nope. Laggy games then? No only had maybe 5 of those the whole day.

So what contributed to these losses? The games awful matchmaking. I pick same skill, same region or any region, but CONSTANTLY get matched up with with 5th and 4th ranked individuals when I'm still just a 7th lord myself. I'm fine and proud to admit that that is where I deserve to be, and am currently not better than a 7th lord material. I'd win a few lose a few I feel if I actually got matched up with 7th ranked opponents, but that's just not the case.

Trying to find similar ranked lobbies is impossible for me. Takes way too long and my gaming time is already limited.

I wish Capcom would just get their heads out of their asses with online features. Let me see my opponents rank before I accept and ready up. I don't want to get bodied free by a 4th Lord who leaves like 1 frame of open room for me to punish him or create an opportunity for myself.

Oh and the one character that constantly gave me troubles today was Taskmaster. Like seriously. I'd push block for days, but I can never find an opening. He's ridiculous.

Yes! Taskmaster is much better now due to the swing cancel. I like doing the swing>m.Arrow>to c.M. Its not really a mix up or anything, but its really quick way to get across the screen. Really effective for switching up from zoning to rush down.
How damaging are your combos? I've been able to get around 750k with one meter so far.

Sorry for the slowness, been partying. When do you do the swing to get across the screen? Just not sure when I'd do it over just dashing to a poke. However, swing > h.arrow seems quite dangerous in that it forces a quick landing.

Using my vanilla B&B for now - chain > swings > charging star > launch > call assist + j.qcf+H > charging star > super > DHC broke 800k, IIRC. Does TM have new combos?

Do you play Ryu too? :O

Whats your team ATM, Shao?

I mained Ryu in Vanilla remember? I had point character trouble. I roll Iron Fist/Ryu/Sentinel and keep checking other cast to see if there is anyone other than Sent I do well with to provide coverage for them. I'd considered working in Spencer somehow since I had put Sent on point and Spencer on anchor for Ryu in Vanilla, but that meant I was playing without good protection and I'm no Justin Wong so I can't afford to be without. Your team has better approaches with Iron Man IMO. I just suck with him. Considering Hawkeye testing with greyhound for this, but yeah team I've Waited 15 years to put Iron Fist on point was always intended to be Iron Fist/Ryu/??? and I've never really stopped using Sent to anchor my Ryu since Vanilla. Dem Crescent heels to extend Ryu and those Denjin tatsus make this team slick.

I thought you knew about me and Ryu in vanilla when I suggested Iron Fist/Ryu as a possible team up to your Iron Man back in the day, but its been awhile. Seeing someone who used Iron Man made me hope you'd take Iron Fist/Ryu seriously since his Unibeam is something I coveted because it'd solve my ground approach issues. Too bad I could never click with his playstyle. IMO youre team has superior tech than with Sent anchoring. Unibeam is just a better assist for what those two need to do out there.

Guys I'm toying with when I play around some are:

Rocket Raccoon a lot. I like his dig,log and traps a lot
Nova. Long combos, big damage...easy to read though
Chun Li. Used her some before and shes better now IMO. Would enjoy using her + Sent again soon.
Spencer. Had just picked him up again pre-launch and now his zipline speed allows for easier links.
Haggar. Used him for about half or more of my time in Vanilla and would like to put him on point with Chun/Sent. Chun for kicks to work like Bum's Chris assist and hold them after OTG, and Sent drones to see if I can't pull off a murphagator trick or two sometime (i'm hoping drones will hold someone in air after Chun air series and that upon landing they'll be low enough that her hyper kikosho connects.). Team sound good to me for coverage and extension and all synergize well.

I don't get Capcom's logic for MvC3 to UMvC3 with regards to Dante and Vergil.

"Dante's true to DMC3 plus he has a bullshit Hammer, but his combos are too long because he ignores hitstun deterioration. Let's make it actually scale in Ultimate."

"Hey, let's put Vergil in Ultimate. But how can we make him true to DMC3?"

"Let him ignore hitstun deterioration!"

Summon Swords is ridiculous. It is one bar Soul Satellite and a million times more BS, hahaha.

Look, people really don't want me to articulate how I really feel about Max's early sentiments, so I'll just say this: I appreciate what Max does as well as the passion he displays for it. That said, only the small-minded try to define what a pipe dream is for other people. Not to sound all preachy. Tell Ultradavid and the LU crew their pipedreamers.

This is literally a godsend compared to Vanilla Mahvel. Were you there at launch? We were regularly getting paired up against 3rd and 1st lords as begginers and amateurs. This was fucking terrible compared to the experience I had with Hsien-Ko being bad. I got pounded over and over by people who had twenty times the experience I did. This and the lack of spectator(making packed player lobbies boring) did a lot more to discourage people from playing the game for an extended period of time.

The game would've been a joke had it not had the Mahvel name attached to it. Well... a lot of people actually did and do feel that it is a joke I guess.

Gotta make him good for the legions of fans who will inevitably use him. It gets a little problematic when they go overboard but whatever. Vergil doesn't seem as stupid as other characters(his sword range is ridic though).

spell of vishanti does poor damage though, doesn't it?
It's not about the damage it's about the instant tracking property along with the area of effect which can grab happy birthdays in an instant AND the combo you get after it. You read the button and the assist call, DHC into SoV -> X factor -> Teleport -> Impact Palm both characters to death. That's a powerful tool to have in the bag. Can be done from his projectile counter hyper as well but that has less overall utility.

Gimlet is good for DHCs but it doesn't always hit both characters and it doesn't lead into as much potential damage as SoV.

yeah i'll take a zero nerf but only if they nerf dahbomb's character in return.
What's the criteria for nerfing Vergil? I have already listed various reasons why Zero should veritably be nerfed. I really haven't seen anything on Vergil that is broken, they probably need to fix that Round Trip charge glitch though because that may have potential for something stupid.

Spiral Swords, Hailstorm and Spell of Vishanti are the 3 best DHCs in the game.

Ammy's element hyper too.

Lets look at this the other way, what are the best hypers which can lead to the highest amount of DHCs? Like Nemesis, his rocket hyper puts everyone in the corner, and the last hit causes a SLOW bounce just in case your DHC needs a special height.

Worst for this is Doom's Sphere Flame, only the best DHC's can add to that.

Grabbity Squeege is a pretty good DHC if you want to flat out kill someone.

I'd also like to nominate the Dr. Strange mirror match as the best in the game. It's frigging amazing because of all the counter hyper bullshit you can pull, especially with X-Factor

What is the glitch?
When you are charging Round Trip, release the charge and immediately start charging again before it even leaves Vergil's hand. His hands will keep glowing even with the RT released. I have done this a few times but it's not consistent, there is a particular timing to it. It essentially allows you to string together RT continuously as long as you are making contact with the opponent with st.H (not hard to do with the range). You can special cancel then st.H when they block it into RT to make a fairly long lockdown with assists + Spiral swords.

Aside from this there isn't anything absurdly OP about Vergil. His sword normals are the best in the game but he can't whiff cancel them so his strength comes at a cost plus all of them are - on block. His teleports are great with assist like all teleports but easy to punish without assists. His damage is solid but not the best. His assists are good and work on many teams but they don't control the pace of the match like a god tier assist. His air options are limited but decent enough for what he needs since he's mostly about controlling the ground space. One of his best tools the Round Trip requires charge. His mix ups/resets are solid but not the best. His most powerful tools are only available to him at the cost of meter. Rapid Slash is a reliable cross up move but if you know it's coming you can always block the opposite way.

3 things Vergil is the best at in this game... Getting obscene amounts of happy birthdays, shutting down or locking down opposite anchor play with Storm Swords and DHCing into hypers to add absurd damage (300K+ even after maximum damage scaling). So as you can see a lot of his tools are situational but he has many tools for various situations so you have to know when to use what. He is a good team player and works on many teams as long as he has a good horizontal assist to work with... which is essential to him. He is a strong character but ultimately balanced at this point in time... unless more tech is developed on him like a potential lockdown sequence.

Karst getting blown up by fchamp on his stream

get crunched karst! looool

though I do agree that Dorm's greatest strength on anchor is chip.
About what? Dormammu not being a good anchor? It's just bad reading by everyone. After I laid out why I was saying what I was saying, chat was agreeing with me. I didn't have sound on, so no clue what Champ was saying.

The fact is that Dormammu can't open up turtlers well at all. The sole reason not to superjump spam against an XF3 anchor is the danger of under-character cross-ups. Every Marvel player knows how irritating it is to have Wesker dash under you and 50/50 because you can't tell if he's slightly in front or behind you, and then you die from a naked s.S into a full combo.

Lots of characters have this threat, and they're generally the good anchors. You can chicken block Dormammu all day during his XF3 without worry because he doesn't have the ground dash speed/ambiguity to make you want to stay grounded. He has no way to open you up if you're just chicken blocking all day. Thus, he pretty much has to resort to chip damage.

If Champ disagreed with that perspective, then he's just flat out wrong.

Again, that doesn't mean Dormammu can't make XF3 comebacks. In fact, when people snap Dormammu back for Morrigan and kill her, I actually smile to myself, because I know that they're about to lose. That's not because Dormammu is a great anchor though, it's because I know how to use the character, and my opponent doesn't understand what he should be doing, or he has been a fool and already burnt X-Factor.

Plus, Dormammu doesn't have a good enough assist to justify holding him back there, which ought to be one of the main criteria for placing a character last unless that character is so incredible at making comebacks that it overrides the downside of having an assist. Dormammu is clearly not one of those characters.

So, to summarize, if Dormammu:
-Isn't great at opening characters up alone when they want to turtle.
-Doesn't have a great assist to hold back with.
-Gains a lot from having assists to back him.

Why the hell would anyone think it's a great idea to anchor him? Heck, if people are so impressed by "omg Dormammu with lots of meter and X-Factor", those people should give Phoenix a try - I heard she makes great comebacks with those attributes, too!
