Alright I think I have my final launch tally. I think.

- 3G First Edition bundle (which I'm going to reserve tonight).
- Hot Shots Golf World Invitational ($30 preorder at Amazon)
- Uncharted: Golden Abyss ($40 preorder at GameStop)
- Pink Hori PS Vita Hard Pouch + Hori screen protector (en route from Play-Asia)

I'll likely end up buying Ridge Racer or Lumines as well. I was going to get WipEout too, but I'm going to pass. I should love the series, but every time I play one of the games I feel pretty disappointed.

It is a similar situation when trying to sell Tetris. Lumines is great, but it is already out on multiple systems. Unless there is something substantional new (which most people, including myself, are not aware) it is hard to sell by full price.

If it was $ 20 I would pick it up. In fact, I will wait until it is US$ 20.

You have seen the videos I imagine. It is obviously still Lumines no matter how you slice it but it is not exactly just more Lumines 1, 2, or Supernova. Includes two new special blocks and now is fully rendered in 3D.

That may get a roll of the eyes from some but for any Lumines lover it should be a day 1.

In fact it is my only game until March 6th...(MLB '12).

Edit: Beaten due to tablet typing.

I thought there was a program where you can transfer umds for a price over to the vita.

You don't literally transfer them, you just get the UMD's unique ID registered and are able to get the PSN version of the game for like $10 or something.

Don't think this transfer program has been announced for outside Japan yet though.

I'm juggling the idea of the Amazon 3g bundle for $300. I wanted the WiFi model with with a 16 gig card, but that would be $10 more expensive than the bundle. I doubt I'll ever use the 3g outside of the 250 mb that the bundle ships with, however, you never know what they could come up with down the line.

It basically comes down to saving $10 for 3g and having 8 less gigs of storage.

Remember everyone : if the JP Store is of any indication, there will be a LOT of demos at launch.
I want Gravity Daze and Sumioni demos. I know JP PSN has them already so maybe NA isnt too far behind.

I hope the US gets something better but they wont.
Im a sucker for XSEED LEs so I had to buy Ys and LoH:TitS on UMD for PSP. Id love to have the digital release on my Vita but cant justify spending more money on them.

Same boat. I'm debating, but right now I still favor the Wifi model and large memory stick. I doubt I'd use the 3G function outside of the free month. The 3G bundle is a hard sell for me because I NEED a 32gb card. I prefer digital, unless the retail version offers a pre-order bonuses, or is priced cheaper.

The future possibilities of 3G functionality is definitely something to consider. However, in the short term Wifi makes more sense for my situation. 8GB isn't nearly enough for HSG, UMvsC and Wipeout. All games I'd rather boot from the card, rather than stick swapping. Not to mention, I usually use my PSP for music.

This honestly should be their first $69.99 bundled game for the Consortium promotion.
I really, really agree with this. I'm kind of hoping there's a $20 coupon for the Vita version in the PS3 case and vice versa. I'm far more likely to play on my Vita, but I'd like the option to have it at home too.

3G Vita Pre-ordered.

For the basically 10 dollar difference in price when you take into account that the 8gb memory card is 40 bucks its kinda silly to not get the 3g.

I mentioned this in the MLB thread today but I really want to get both versions of the Show this year. They better have some kind of deal for people that want both.

I'm surprised people don't value the GPS on the 3G model? I do, for $20. I have no use for the 3g data

What is it use for? If it's for driving or maps, already have GPS and iPhone for that.

And, where are people getting uncharted for $40? I only see it for $50 in USA.

Why would I value GPS if I don't care about using 3G?

I decided to keep my $20 and stay on Wi-Fi and 8 GB. The 3G activation thing to get the free PSN game killed my interest

Already have a Garmin in the car. Also with a netbook., blackberry, and playbook, there really is no need for 3G Vita for me. Factor in unlimited data plan and free tethering with Verizon and that seals the deal.

Added features later you say? Well surely a year'ish away. By then will start gearing up for revision with 4G and other stuff if my WiFi unit was lacking.

Yeah, that'd be wonderful. I'm going to ultimately get both versions, but I'll start off with one or the other and wait for a price drop on the one I end up getting later. I love the show, but I can't justify dropping $100 on two versions of the same game simultaneously.

I think I'll start with the Vita version to further justify my purchase. That, plus it'll be a lot easier to play whenever I want that way.

Can you do league games and cross platform play on the Vita? One issue I've had with the gaf league is waiting around for opponents to show up, but if league play is available and cross platform it'd make the league more fun and less of a hassle.

Anybody else think the post-launch sales in Japan would have been A LOT better if PSVita had launched with something like this available day-one?

I wrote an article about it on Bitmob.

This PSP game backwards compatibility model is just so frustrating to me, I had to create an entire alternate universe in protest.

Who cares, really? A more relevant article would be to talk about a theoretical alternate reality where Sony managed to advertise the Vita properly and create a buzz around the upcoming western release. That's the biggest problem facing the Vita right now..

Nobody liked UMD, the best thing Sony could do was just drop it. people can still keep their old PSP's to play their UMD games. People would have complained more if the Vita still had a UMD drive.

At least Sony sold their games on PSN too.. so it's not like everything has just been cut off.

I believe the idea here is an optional UMD drive add-on, so people can play their UMD-only games (like: KH:BbS) on Vita.

I know.. and I wouldn't be opposed to such a device. But in the end its not in Sony's interest to sell such a device. They want customers to buy the new Vita releases, not play their already purchased UMD games.

That's a valid point.

Either way, had they released a UMD add-on, I myself probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway. More weight + More battery drain + I still will have my PSP = no thanks.

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally don't like or prefer UMD. I just like the selection of titles for UMD compared to what they're selling on PSN. What I hate is how limited the selection of PSP games on PSN is. There is a serious lack of RPGs on the PSN store, and this may just be my opinion but the line up of RPGs on the PSP is what makes the system great. Yet there are games even from big publishers severely lacking on PSN for the PSP. I heard Kingdom Hearts wasn't on PSN because of Square-Enix's contract with Disney or something...ok, fine...They have an excuse, but why the hell haven't Square-Enix put Crisis Core on there then? It's not like any contracts are limiting them from doing that.

I don't know who's fault it is, Sony or the third party publishers, but if they want people to buy their games, they should be making them available as many ways as possible. The number of games should be increasing, but it seems like no publishers are making any effort to redistribute older PSP games on PSN, and with the launch of the Vita, new life could easily be breathed into some older titles. We shouldn't be removing titles like XSEED did. I know at least one game I would have bought has actually been removed from PSN. Brave Story was on there at one time, and it no longer is a title available when I searched.

The other problem I have is how inconsistent pricing of digital distribution can be for consoles. I really hate the half-assed approach Sony (and microsoft) do with their DD services. It's not like Steam where the prices usually stay up to date with the latest MSRP. One title I'd like to get on PSN for my PSP is Hot Shots Tennis, but it's hard to justify the $20 price they're charging, when I go to my work, and I see a PSP bundle they have which includes Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, and Hot Shots Tennis bundled together for $14.99! Not a sale price, not a clearance price, but the usual retail price. It's nonsense, it's like they put the games up for sale on the service, and then just forget that it exists and let the price stay the same forever. There have been a few exceptions, but not enough. Prices don't frequently go on sale like Steam either.

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a rant. Maybe the PSP Go wouldn't have been such a flop if they were on top of this shit. I want to support Sony, and make the give them all my money with the Vita, but they need to get their head out of their ass.

I'm definitely holding off on purchasing launch titles and waiting for inevitable reactionary price drops/promotions. There's dat GKH and other PSP titles that can keep me occupied for the time being.

I'm considering holding off on the system altogether. I know I want one, but I don't think it'll perform well enough for Sony not to press the fire sale button.

Vita is already selling to a niche user base. A UMD add on would sell to an even smaller niche, tiny really. It's a complete waste of money and time for Sony to even consider such a thing.

Phone GPS signals work with no plan.

It is a separate network. If a gps app needed to download data it would not work.
If the maps are in the app or can be cached on wi-fi it could work.

Yes but GPS shares some tech/antennas with 3G. That is why only Vita 3G models have GPS. But you do not need a plan neither a 3G signal/coverage for GPS to work.

I think there were licensing issues with Brave Story when Game Republic went under. In fact the only things I know of that have been removed from PSN are due to companies going out of business. Not to say there are things that have been removed for other reasons, but I don't know of any.

Availability is a big deal though, I still don't get why a lot of earlier PSP games aren't available on PSN, especially those from bigger companies where there aren't any licensing questions. Maybe a while after the Vita is out we'll see some more PSP games popping up, unless there is some bullshit involved with putting or keeping games on the service there's no reason not to have them available.

But there's still the issue of pricing and I've brought that up quite a few times. Console DD services suck because publishers don't seem to think they have any incentive to drop prices - there's no competing services on the platform and no shelf space to worry about, so why drop the price? Apparently no sales are better than some sales at 75% or half of the original MSRP.

It really seems like most of this is on publishers unless Sony has some ridiculous fine print in their PSN contracts, but it doesn't seem like that's the case as far as I can tell, otherwise publishers wouldn't be considering PSN only releases (actually I can only think of one now), and some publishers have been dropping the price on their PSN games.

Edit: I wonder if this has anything to do with Amazon taking down their PSN stuff. Curious now.

Why not just carry a psp with you as well at that point? It's not like your PSP suddenly explodes when the vita is released.

People are too obsessed with backwards compatibility. I'm not buying a $300 piece of hardware to play old psp games. I already have a psp for that.

Just rebuy the handful of psp games that you simply have to have, and deal with it.

I cancelled my 16gig memory card preorder. After careful deliberation, I realized that I won't need the card for a while, so there's no need to buy it day one.

I'm buying retail for everything that I can get it on, and the few titles I'm downloading on day one aren't going to eat up my 8 gigs.

Even better, is that instead of paying for an overpriced memory card, I can now purchase two more games for my Vita on day one if I desire. Which games I'm not sure about, though. I'm

3G/Wi Fi Vita: $299.99
Uncharted: GA: $39.99 (Amazon pre-order lock, so no $49.99 for me!)
Rayman Origins: $39.99 (I think it's worth $39.99, and I never bought the console version)
Super Stardust Delta: $9.99 (I'm pretty sure it won't be priced over $15)
Escape Plan: $9.99 (ditto)
Hori Screen Protector: $6.99
Vita case: $19.99 (although I saw a nice cheap one for $6.99; I don't need a big case, because I already have a bag I carry my stuff around it. It's mostly to protect the front and back screen from scratches)
Corpse Party: $19.99
Gladiatory Begins: $9.99

Total: $456.91

I had budgeted to spend about $500-$530 on my Vita, so I still have $70 left over to spend. On what, I have no idea. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards Wipeout and Shinobido 2, but I'm hoping for Gravity Daze to make a surprise appearance around launch. I could easily hold onto the $70 and wait the two weeks for Unit 13 and Gravity Daze to release in March.

Can anyone answer this......

I want to pre-order the wifi/3g Vita and called Gamestop and they informed me that it comes with an 8GB card, the 250mb free 3G data and a PSN game voucher. Which PSN game or is it PSN funds and can I just walk in day 1 and buy it without pre-ordering?

No one knows yet. So far the only PSN game confirmed to be $15 is Plants vs Zombies.
