Plus is PSN+ gonna change to SEN+ as well?

It was never called PSN+, it's called PS+...

It's called PlayStation Plus.
Ugh... :/
PS-SEN sounds like PSN if you say it fast enough. No change!
Mindblown, really...
Urgh PSN rolled off the tongue.

Still gonna call my future "S-E-N" account a PSN account, because i'm a stubborn rubberman.
You don't spell it out, you say it like Sen... :/

Also, people are completely missing the point of this change... -_-

"Sen" means "late" in Swedish. It seems fittingly ironic.

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who thought of this :lol

Point 1 to disassociating with the PlayStation name after the disastrous PS3, Vita launch and PSP flub in NA

PS4 to be named Sony Entertainment System confirmed

My thoughts too. So when they've been saying that we wont see the "PS4", or "a new Playstation" at E3, they're correct. My bet is they show this new system under the new name.

There is a point?

Sony has been focusing on SEN for its other products for sometime now. Perhaps they will come to Playstation someday: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...Id=10551&langId=-1&cmsId=STATICS_BIV_showcase

As you can see, some of these widgets/apps, like College Football, have already made it to PSN.

I remember the Bravia Internet Video Link is a streaming video service. So it may come to Playstation 3 and Vita also. The PSN Video store is a download video service.

I do wonder sometimes what goes on in some of these marketing departments....don't they even Google their ideas to check for "unfortunate" matches before picking them??

SEN = Special Educational Needs (commonly used in UK education organisations)

They deliberately picked the SEN acronym. Where do you think SCEE finds their execs?

Probably why they decide to spell out the words. If they were to use a short form, they can always choose a different one like SoEN or Sony EN.

Sony: "We'll never charge for PSN.
But we will charge for SEN.
"

And, jeez, leave it up to a Japanese company to come up with the worst branding imaginable. I sure hope I can do transfarring on SEN! Kaz really knows how to reinvigorate a brand.

Nah, they said they will never charge to play online.

And I got my email this morning for 2 of my account.

y'all should be ashamed
PSN still exists. The logo will still exist. This is a change for account branding only. Not sure why this is so hard to understand. :p

Exactly all that's mentioned in the email is that your account is getting a name change and will be aligned with SEN. Just like Video and Music Unlimited still exist under SEN.

I guess they will remove "PlayStation Network" from PS3 games covers as well, and replace it with the SEN one. Which is taller than the PSN one...

A new *Bigger* logo on covers?

they need to keep PSN on there with "Formerly Known As PlayStation Network" printed on future game boxes.

once again PSN is staying it's just the account name that's changing. Really people, it's not that hard to understand.

What do you mean by account name?

Oh I see, you mean

Video Unlimited
Music Unlimited
PlayStation Network

All of the above powered by the Sony Entertainment Network.

So the PlayStation Network would exist a sub-network of the Sony Entertainment Network? I dunno, it doesn't sound right.

There are just too many networks :/

This will confuse Anonymous to no end.

Good change -- hopefully this is a signal they're starting to think outside their stupid silo company culture.

EDIT (because I see you've written more): basically yes this is what will happen. The SEN offers services like those you've listed or the PlayMemories that will soon come. I agree it could be a bit confusing but that's only because they're not really using a common name particle in all of the network titles. If it were Sony Online Unlimited and you'd have Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and Playstation Unlimited it would have been neater.

Though this change is simply there so that you can have one account to access everything Sony has to offer. Kinda like Google Accounts with GMail, Google Docs, Google Plus etc

Damn, so now in Qore they're going to say "brought to you by Qore, presented by the PlayStation Network, powered by the Sony Entertainment Network"?

Really the bigger news from the email is the firmware update that is planned.

What about the pre-order thing. Ain't that new as well? I don't think you can pre-order on the PS Store (unless I'm reading that SCEA email wrong)

the name is not ringing it for me... sounds too much like Ottawa Senators aka the Sens

they forget that the name Playstation has longer lasting brand name recognition than just Sony

they're only quoting and drawing conclusions from the same email thats been discussed here. I mean we'll see tomorrow, but the email does not mention the rebranding of the service itself. In fact it only refers to the account name change. Maybe I'm being nitpicky but as a law student one of the first things they teach you is to pick up on this sort of detail.

I haven't even noticed that until you pointed it out. They say they will update the Terms and Conditions with pre-ordering info so maybe the firmware update will have something to do with that or maybe they'll just allow it on ps store ( i think they had this sort of a set up for the Play promotion in August).

So per eurogamer...the PSN name is actually going in a more general way, not just for accounts?

That will be...interesting.

Well, I guess we'll know for sure if/when there's a firmware change. I expect the Playstation Store will still be called that, but the top level PSN icon? We'll see.

Still Alive
As an old time gamer and PS3/PSN lover, I just wanted to pop in here and say I find it awesome that my short name will now be the official network acronym. Sweet.

PS4 = Sony Entertainment System (SES™) Calling it.

[edit] also nice to see the old timers like go freak, cubigans, TTP etc. still kicking in here, cool.

Well, not really.

SEN account would give you access to the "PlayStation Store" (that's the service you access to via your SEN account, just like GMail, Google Docs, Google Plus are services you access to with the Google one).
