Considering that very, and I mean very few people I know who have kids, drink enough to get drunk multiple times a week (if your behavior changes, that means you're drunk, don't dance around that) I wouldn't say what you do is standard. It's for the best you decided to change.
Hello gaf, i'm 32 and i have a drinking problem.
You might say my drinking habits are quite standard, i drink maybe twice a week at the most, almost never get drunk but hammered enough to behave in a way i normally wouldn't when sober.
Recently, i've been feeling quite bad the next day after having even just a few drinks, not physically but mentally. Like this guilt and regret that what i'm doing is just not right, i don't like the person i become when i drink too much, my wife hates it too.
I've decided that i want to quit drinking, it is something(drinking) that doesn't make me a better person, not drinking will, as it will allow me to be more focused 24/7 in the things that i care about the most which is my wife and children. I think i have the will power to quit it by myself but i'm going to join an AA group anyway or at least give it a shot and see how i feel there, hell i might even help me work on some other issues i have in my life.
So fellow gaffers, anyone here been through this or considering something like this?
This. I'm 22 and never had a drink in my life. Good luck to you.Never understood the appeal of drinking, so never even started.
Good luck though.

I was like you, kind of.
Went to schoolies (end of your schooling years massive party) and drank 1 beer over the whole week.
Everyone else around me was having a fun time. I was just the boring guy in the back. To have that time of my life come round again with what I know now would be amazing.
Live it up while you can.
Was it a problem that you were less fun because you didn't drink? I doubt it.
More likely a problem in that people who do drink consider people who don't to be less fun.
Sounds like their problem...not yours.
sounds to me like everyone was having a great time drunk and he was in a shell being unwild.
Basic fact of life = things are better intoxicated.
I've been to a few parties but I still don't see the appeal of drinking. I am usually the boring guy but that's fine with me. Then again I ended up driving some people home. I'm not really a social person in general. I have a good job now, still just starting out in the working world, I see my friends on weekends, saving money, I don't need to start blowing money at bars and clubs and such on drinks or anything else. It's just not my scene. At least that's how I feel. My friends do drink but I've never felt pressured to just start. Just not interested.I was like you, kind of.

I should add, my oldest son is 5 and he's used to seeing me drink often at the house while watching football and the like, i don't want to set a bad example for him, i'm sure it'll save me a lot of headaches if he never starts drinking.

I'll have to take your word for it. Drunk people are annoying as fuck imo.
Sorry, not a fan of not being something I really am not. Call me boring or anything but that's just how I was raised and I've been doing good so far.turns situations into one big fun playground

ever noticed when your walking in a busy place when everyone's sober no one every really gives you eye contact or sparks up a chat ? Well in a bar/concert/club/party with alcohol everyone turns into a social butterfly lubed up for open up.

As with any drug its an escape from the normal and a chance to live a completely different life while under the intoxication
also the drunker you get the better music sounds.
Do you ever get so drunk that you wake up all tangled up in your ipod headphones because you passed out with your ipod still playing?
No thanks. Don't drag me into quitting something I enjoy because you can't handle it.

Plus, I don't need alcohol to appear drunk. I've witnessed it with my friends a couple of times as I get just as nuts as the people drinking. The only difference is that I remember everything the next day.
.Hell no
Hell no
I'm honestly, sincerely not trying to start anything, but God do I find this sentiment annoying in its naivete. It displays a complete misunderstanding of what alcohol does to an individual while feigning superiority that inexperience in this regard is a good thing. I don't care if you ever have a drink, personally, but you might want to consider that maybe, just maybe, there's something to it that you've yet to experience. Not saying it's a wonder drug that will make your life infinitely better without any bit of downside. However, keep an open mind that maybe the reason that lots of people like to drink is that there's something to it that can't be described as "they do it because they're not as awesome as me; they need this poison but I don't because I'm rad like that."Sorry, not a fan of not being something I really am not.
