FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Chapter 5 spoilers ...
Dying World...saving Noel from the dream was fantastic....truly epic, emotional and satisfying

I'm only on Chapter 5 but from what I gather Caius probably has the worst motivations as a villain in the history of FF imo...very disappointing.

Edit: Having trouble in Academia AF 500...only on one or two enemies not all...should I still proceed?

i just finished the story...
Woah whar happenned ?
You had the peeeeeeeerfect way to do it.But why ?

Why this ?.Gonna talk about it later after i process this ending

They want to motivate you to go back and get all 160 fragments in hopes of changing the future.
When that fails, they want you to spend money on DLC in hopes of changing the future.
When that fails, they'll want you to buy the next game in hopes of changing the future.
When that fails...

Just finished the main story and it was AWESOME.

I'm not afraid to say I had way more fun with this than FFXIII. And while it was quite short, I'm totally looking forward to getting the 90 or so fragments I'm missing, because the whole game looks really engaging.

Quick question about the ending (no real spoilers) :
Is there a resolution for it in the secret-or-whatever ending you get at 160/160? Or is it a genuine "To be continued..."?

Nope, just makes it more confusing really.

i Was genuily happy to see the new project , that the new home worked... and then serah had her vision and died and i though "oh well , tragic but expected it's still a finish with hope for humanity" and then noel remembering caius words and then a " it can't be" came from my mind ..and they did it ..i WASN'T expecting something like this as a ending .

That said i enjoyed toying the timeline a solving anomalies .. there is a genius world to have fun with , finding secrets. On that aspect it's well done.

Now i love the music the lyrics on many songs did their job pretty well .. awesome soundtrack..

A very good experience overall ..i'm missing 90 fragments so i'll get back to get them all I'll take a dlc to correct this horrible twist
Because i choose to not kill caius and he died anyway resulting on this mess of a ending.

And god dammn it what happenned to alyssa ?

And who designed academia 500AF ? this level is garbage ..The only good thing about it is that it's better than orphan cradle.

Huh. I just realized there's no Cid in XIII-2! I'm almost finished with the game and haven't heard the name once! Have I missed him somewhere?

And I know
Raines is dead
, but figured they'd fit in a Cid anyway. It's tradition!

So. I ran out of wild artifacts, and need more to unlock some important areas. Please tell me there's an easy way to see which areas still have some.

No. Its just more Caius talking. Not even 2 minutes worth. I'd youtube it if I were you.

Alright, thanks folks. I'm not planning to do the side stuff before some time so it's good to know I'm not missing on anything relevant.

Nice ride anyway. I understand why people would hate it, but my low, low expectations combined to the very strange "hype" it's been getting eventually contributed in making this game a very pleasant experience, as imperfect as it may be.

Your question about Alyssa gets answered in a Paradox ending.

I heard you had to have a certain number of fragments by the end of the game for something. Is that true? It was in the GameFaqs guide - saying something like needing 100 fragments.

160 fragments for the paradox ending that takes place after the credits.

It's 2 minutes long, and isn't really worth it unless you want to get all of the fragments/paradox endings.

Listening to more Liam O' Caius it's always worth boy!
What a truly epic villain he is. Definitely my favorite in the series... probably I just want XIII-3 to be able to see him again, as much as I wanted Crisis Core because of Sephiroth's involvement.

Square, a DLC Episode with him playable and its past would not be bad you know?

Uhhh... going for the bestiary fragment, missed a few in Academia 500. Was getting encounters for the first bit, but they've completely stopped in the areas I need to farm. Do you not get random encounters after you hit the last cactaur, or what? I need the one treeguy you ride and the mages. Going for the tree guy, and, there aren't any more monsters spawns... anywhere.

Just checked, they're a one time spawn per time reversal. For fucks sake.

Yes, it's terrible. Took me 5 tries to get the one time spawn guy I needed at the end of the zone. I got really good at avoiding trash in that place though, really good. That said the rest of the bestiary was fairly easy to fill in and makes you encounter all the toughest side bosses before it's complete so I actually appreciated it for that.

Eh, took me like 4 hours to play cleanup.

So, uh, do you need the
paradox scope
on to get the
secret ending
? Cause I just ran through it to get the last achievement, and uh, nothing. Ugh.

Got the final achievement.

Who in their right mind would play this thing manually for hours and hours and hours and hours hoping to luck out?

I won quite a sum of coins after trying this method... but it took a while and I didn't really care since I left the PS3 on while I did readings or graded.

That is probably my favourite part of the game. Not because it involves Noel or anything, but because the narrative, mood, emotion, and atmosphere was communicated quite well through retrospection.

Sorry but, automatic didnt work out for me.

I got the trophy playing manually in around 20-30 minutes.

After the shock ending I just went to sleep I had had enough of XIII-2 for a day.

I woke up and went to the ffxiii forums and read through their 28 page FFXIII-2 ending thread.

The ending and events and everything makes much more sense as does where the story might go on from here...my emotions on the ending is like I don't even know, I can see sparks of genius and trollism in it both at the same time.

Anyway time to move to the FFXIII-2 spoiler thread I guess.

Oh and I know I made fun of Caius' motivation but
before the final battle when he says, "a Yeul who liked to travel, a Yeul who liked books"...etc. I really felt for his character...a great way of "showing" his love for Yeul rather than "telling"...I still think the motivations overall are lolzy but that scene was excellently executed
..anyone else agree?

That said I found Barthandelus a better villain, probably the most underrated villain in the series, I'll go to the grave with that opinion. lol

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Just finished up all the Paradox Endings, now to take on the bestiary challenge, get the 7777 coins in the slot machine, run around like an idiot on the Chocobo for a while and then get the super secret ending. Hope to have that all done some time before ME3 comes out, but we'll see.

Awesome game, I enjoyed this a helluva lot more than 13, 12, well any FF since 9 or 10. It's got its share of flaws (mainly in the lack of difficulty for 90% of the main game, annoying/repetitive puzzles, and a few dull fetch quest side quests) but the storyline and music really worked for me.

Ending was fantastic, even if it's just an excuse for DLC/FFXIII-3. I wish the game would stay with that though, since I love those kind of "shock twist" endings (favorite game ending is Phantasy Star 2).

Why FFXIII-2 is really, really, really good and miles better than FFXIII:

- Noel
- new Hope is boss
- mini games (Casino, Chocobo Racing)
- puzzles (Clock, Connect the Dots, Collect Crystals)
- open maps
- you can go back to every map ever visited
- challenging bosses (hello Rasputil)
- amazing ending and...
- amazing last boss fights (lots of them with no saves in between)
- Mario-like level
- impeccable combat system that is fast, fluid and furious
- save anywhere
- City of Academia
- Monster Hunter aspect
- Flan Musketeers

What keeps FFXIII-2 from being perfect:

- Mog's voice
- Serah
- no map as big as Gran Pulse from FFXIII
- 80% of maps are locations from FFXIII
- not enough new music tracks and overall a very weak OST
- not enough diversity between same places in different times (just different texture color) for example Oerba looks the same while it should turn to desert after 400 years
- not enough glorious CGI
- even dumber Snow
- too short

Overall I'd rate this entry in the FF franchise as 9+/10 (FF13 is 4/10). Very happy with my purchase. I hope we will get FFXIII-3 (take my money!) instead of 5 pieces of shitty DLC content.

- puzzles (Clock, Connect the Dots, Collect Crystals) - No, they're okay the first few times, but screw Oerba and those damn clock puzzles. Connect the dots wouldn't be bad if they didn't have 5 or 6 stages per paradox sometimes
- Mario-like level - Reading the guide, the creators say they wanted to implement jumping because they thought it was an interesting mechanic....The last level is NOT where you implement these types of things.

Save (before spawning enemy) -> Reload (if enemy you want isnt there)

Oerba and Vile Peaks are taken straight from FFXIII, but I think they're the only ones. Yaschas is similar but not quite the same.

New Bodhum is just like Bodhum + new short area with boss Gogmagog. I mean it looks absolutely the same (cause Gadot build it to look like Bodhum).

StoppedInTracks has a lot of good points, but I would disagree with how he "scores" the games. That being said, I feel scores are mostly meaningless as long as we can discuss on actual issues. Whether someone feels XIII is a 4/10 or a 7/10 or a 1/10 doesn't really matter if there is an actual argument to discuss about the game itself.

That being said, I <3 Serah and Mog. They make the game for me. I'm much less taken by Noel because he reminds me of a young Tom Cruise. I hate Tom Cruise. >_<

I don't understand why this is an example of an improvement over XIII.

It's the same thing. >_>

If anything it's more restrictive because slot #3 can only be set up to three separate paradigms and the two permanent characters have some crappy setups.

Unless it's the Mog clock, yuck. :-/

It's not I just had to put it somewhere :) I am really fond of FF13/13-2 combat system.

Ahh - fair enough. I will say that I prefer the way XIII handled the difficulty balance - since XIII-2 wasn't clear (on purpose of course) on where you should go next, I thought it was too easy to become overpowered. This would make the next chapter in the game pretty boring battle-wise, something that did not happen during the main story of XIII.

Well it is the same thing and it is not the same thing. Pros are lack of animation for Paradigm Shifts and immensively richer pool of that 3rd member talent. Cons can be lack of good Haste spell character and lack of the aerosols you could spray before battle for Haste/ Protect/ Shell but that was basically cheating.

Mog clock is I dunno... a metagame? I mean it doesn't work for bosses.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
If FFXIII-2 had an actual 3rd party member and they had summons, I would have liked it much much more than FFXIII's. Right now they're on par.

Well you can always get one of the DLC characters as your "monster" party member. But yeah I am definitely disappointed at the lack of summons.
