That sucks Raw, there's always people around here if you want to talk to complete strangers who have no vested interest in the situation.

I'm just unbelievably depressed that he had to go out like this. Honestly, we didn't end on the best of terms, but I'll always think of him as my buddy.

Only at the I-Courthouse!

Edit: And GameplayWhore... you clearly didn't look at the group photo that Tence drew. You'll clearly see Beef in there and he looks nothing like Cena.

The group photo had everything I would need to figure out who Beef is in the picture except for labels that say who's who. Best I could tell, he's not you and he's not Lissar. Is he the guy with the happy smile up in the clouds?

Is Metadata admissible evidence?

According to my lawyer, yes. It will be enough to get them to drop the claim that the document was fabricated after I was served.

The shitty thing is I can't sign over the title to the new owners until I get this lien taken care of. Which essentially means I can't get my money because some assholes have decided they want more money for fucking up.

Either they will withdraw this quietly or I am going to nail them to the wall.

Nail them then throw a GAF party with the extra earnings. I'd show up

My condolences Raw. I too lost a childhood friend last week. The feeling is indescribably awful. *hug*
So sorry to hear that, too.

It isn't much of course, but know that I've taken a solemn moment or two out of my day to regard the loss you and Raw must be experiencing. I am lucky enough to have not experienced untimely death in my life so far and I can only offer my sincerest sympathies.

RawPower, I'm glad you're able to remember your friend fondly despite anything that went on.

Thanks, my boy.

And nintendoll, condolences to you as well. I feel like a dick for not saying that earlier. :(

It wasn't even a big thing. I was just reading someone say, "Do you prefer a modern or fantasy setting?" which is pretty innocuous, but my fantasy geek brain flared up. In my mind I started going on and on about how fantasy and modern are not mutually exclusive, how fantasy has a whole range of possibilities beyond "medieval with magic" that so many people would like to believe. You'd think after Harry Potter people would get that. But no!

... and then I realized I was arguing with no one and I needed to step back for a minute and examine my behavior.

There is something adorable about that, I have to admit

Why does everyone have to point out that I have Japanese games :< Is it that bad?

Non-nerdy people also have books  Probably not as many FANTASY and SCI-FI books, but books nonetheless.

I can confirm that this is in fact not the case. Non-nerdy people have some reading material, but they don't need bookcases.

How many books do you have?

It is not bad, but it is geeky. My house is filled with Smurfs, Lego, Japanese stuffed toys, SMB crap, Zoids, a tiny Cthulhu............ so yeah my friends and family also consider me and my wife a bit geeky..so what... I can live with that.

As long as your not sleeping in the basement of your parents house with a waifu pillow (or in your case a husbandu pillow) I think you'll be fine.

Speaking of nerdy things, I picked up the first volume of I, Zombie and now I'm desperate for more! I had first only sort of wanted the comic, but when I found out it was set in my hometown? Well, I had to have it. I don't think there were any specific landmarks in this first volume, but there was a definite Eugene-ness to the landscape that was very familiar and homey to me.

My only gripe is the main character is a little TOO gorgeous. I mean, I don't have any problem with beautiful characters, but her face is so beautiful that it lacks personality. She's just a pretty face (the left side is how you normally see her. Occasionally she goes all zombie, but I think that's just supposed to be what she feels like inside rather than her actual outside looks. While I like the contrast between beautiful girl and inner zombie, I just wish that her face had more personality to it.

I did find this cover quite inspiring.

I can confirm that this is in fact not the case. Non-nerdy people have some reading material, but they don't need bookcases.

How many books do you have?

Probably 400 physical English books. This does not count my collection on my Kindle. Or my 4 shelves of novels in Japanese. Or my comic collection...

Speaking of my Kindle. When I finished the last chapter I read in Cryptnomicon (Yes, I'm reading it slow) This little guy showed up on my screen and I thought of March-Pic GAF.

Agreed. You don't have to specifically like a particular genre of some media to be a nerd, even. If you obsessively collect and read a shit-ton of romance novels, then you're a nerd or geek of that interest. I mean, I was a gym nerd -- I read all over the place and did tons of research concerning weights and calories and such things. None of my reading material had even a single unicorn or mecha therein.

Mechacorn!

I've been too lazy to put custom backgrounds on my current Kindle. It was nice having all my art on my last one though. Maybe sometime soon I'll do it again. It's out of warranty now, anyway.

Hey, I'm not saying it's BAD being a nerd. Don't get me wrong. There are just DEGREES. Arguing pointless details with no one but yourself is sort of a bad thing.

I need a better way to display my comics, or a way at all. Longboxes suck, I want them on a shelf like the rest of our books.

Also, the fact that you post in a gaming forum...that alone is a qualifier for nerdom.
I embrace my nerdyness.

I always considered that geeky rather than nerdy... however I am not a native English speaker so I might be wrong.

In my perception:
Geek: Likes games or comics or funny toys, stuff a bit out of the ordinary. His/her interest might make a 'regular' person smile and think..why the fuck do you collect that.
Nerd: The above but also tends to take it to the next level. Often a bit socially inept.. regards his 'weird' hobbies far more important than normal socail interactions etc.

Again, I might be really wrong... English is not my first language.

You can be a nerd about anything, the word doesn't hold the same connotation that it used to. As long as you are passionate enough about something I'd say you're a nerd for that particular thing.

That's overthinking it a bit.

I use them interchangeably.

I dont know, it seems about the same way in Swahili.

How I heard it was geeks tend to be passionate about a few particular things and they get far more into it than average. Nerds are more about academics. But I too use them interchangeably. People understand what you mean regardless.

And I just like the word NERD better than GEEK. They both sound like strange alien creatures, but the geek sounds annoying.

The terms are really subjective and change a lot depending on the time period, geographical location or even within particular interests (in pro wrestling, a "nerd" is someone who doesn't eat animal products and doesn't own a television set). Here's how I learned them while growing up...

Geek: Highly enthusiastic and involved in a subject matter but able to properly socialize outside the realm of their particular interests.

Nerd: Highly enthusiastic and involved in a subject matter but not able to properly socialize outside the realm of their particular interests.

Dork: No particular noteworthy interests and not able to properly socialize.

That is to say: Nerd = dork with interest/talent. Geek = nerd with social skills.

I blew my daughter's mind.

She had come home from school talking about how this one kid in her class was such a nerd, and going on about how he acts, etc.

I told her two things and she was quiet for the entire car trip.

1. Nerds make the world run. Some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world were nerds in school and..

2. Her father is a nerd.

Sadly, she trumped me about 30 minutes later when she asked. "Then why aren't we rich?"

Well, to be fair you did only say SOME nerds. Not everyone can have the brilliant ideas that make them rich. Most nerds I know are not rich but still quite important to society  Hell, most teachers and librarians are probably nerds on some level, and they're helping and teaching her :D She should be thankful for the nerds in the world.

More adventure game nerd time. I love these guys. I wish I could afford the new rewards for the $100 donation tier.

My daughter and I are going to have nerd time together tomorrow. I'm taking her to the library so she can pick out a manga volume to read.

She came home from school with one and was suuuuuuper excited to read it. She blasted through it in about 2 days and was thirsty for more. As an anime/manga geek myself, this made me very proud. She and I are going to go on an expedition to find the niche she likes to read about tomorrow. I'm almost as excited as she is.
