Cross Assault Thread: Get Cross, taste Salt (SFxT Reality Show)

What's your opinion on Filipino Champ now?

I think he's hilarious and a cool dude. I have no shame in admitting that I too was over-sensitive, but I'm definitely over it now. I realized that it's all in good fun and it's better to just sit back and watch it happen then get all worked up over stuff that is in jest and means nothing in the long run.

Man this thread got very serious very quickly... Anyway JWong is going to be random selecting the SS2K12 Marvel tournament soon, that should be entertaining.. Right?

This is what I have to wonder, how many of you are actually talking about in-person behavior? How many have you have actually been to tournaments and see bigotry, racism, or sexism in action?

If you're just talking about stream monsters then this entire argument is pointless, because stream monsters just exploit people for what they are, if you're fat, you get blown up for it, if you're bald, you get blown up for it, and so on and so forth. It's just a melting pot of stupidity that you aren't supposed to take seriously.

Given some of Aris' behavior on stream it's not hard to imagine that people trying to make a blanket defense of all of what the fighting community does are probably also defending some behavior that most people wouldn't find acceptable.

This assumption was only made worse by some of the things that Aris said on Jared's stream.

Watching the offcast stream and i'm getting depressed at how much better Noah is at playing fighting games even though i have like 20+ years of experience on him

:(

Yo, I think it'd be hilarious if FGC hype turned into golf claps.

I'd laugh every single time. Like every single time I see NerdJosh in that Cross Assault intro.

We'd have to go all the way if that was the case. But I can't imagine Yipes and the others commentating with hushed tones, I'd think I'd lose my shit.

Don't worry, it's old news, we already moved to another drama.
So then what's happening now?!

People are really twisting Jared's words.

Tell me about it. Nothing new about this.

Why did Frame Trap end: Long story short, when I assumed my current position at Twitch, a lot of organizers in the community decided it was best to start avoiding me. It turns out, a lot of them naturally assumed that since I was with iPlayWinner, I would be giving preferential treatment to IPW and there was no chance that they would be featured, so no one should even bother. That is ridiculous.

To remedy this, I left IPW and sacrificed Frame Trap so that I could focus on growing the FGC as a whole and not just my own pursuits. Since then, a lot of them have come back to the table and I've been able to do a lot of great things for the fighting game community in the background (sponsored events, ect). I also did this so that no one could question the integrity of IPW and everything we've built up around it. Haunts hates me. C'est la vie.

I want to sanitize the FGC: This is a case of people seeing things black or white. I think LevelUp has already proved that it's very much possible to retain the spirit of the FGC while making it palatable for both the hardcore audience, as well as the people who want to watch fighting games but are turned off by the scene in general. That's great. I'd also love to see more insightful commentary come out of this. Insightful does not equal "censorship." I don't know where that came from.

I want commentary to be more like SC2 commentary in that it's like sports commentary. I want people to actually learn something while they watch. No, this does not mean you have to explain what an FADC every match (this is a bizarre, common straw man). In fact, you hardly ever have to explain things at all. It's about crafting a narrative about the game. We have amazing players whose storylines change from tournament to tournament and from match to match. We have a game that is extremely easy to understand but hardly anyone that can actually explain it, as bizarre as that is.

When I'm watching a match, I want to hear the play-by-play as it makes for a more enjoyable experience. I don't want to hear some dude orgasm into a mic at every major engagement. That doesn't do anyone any favors. Tell me why this is amazing. Put into words and into feelings why this is so great.

As for censorship or whatever.. At the end of the day, I want to see the FGC grow and the players rewarded. That's it. If the community itself wants to sabotage this by continuing to promote rape culture and actively work towards excluding anyone who doesn't enjoy treating those around them like shit, then there's nothing I can do. This extends to "stream monsters" as well. The out of control ugliness is very much starting to hamper people's impressions of the scene as well. On Twitch, I've gone on record that non-malicious trolling is fine. It can be pretty cute and mostly harmless. Cross Assault leads me to believe I should reevaluate that and take a firmer line. People can treat me like I'm the eSports Devil, and that's fine.

"That Jared, he respects women. What scumbag."

I can live with that.

Belittling =/= Invalidation
I don't have a horse in the FGC vs E-sports debate. I didn't even quote the rest of his post since its valid. Don't be a dick.

Not being a dick at all. But you could have pointed out his mistake with making it seem like his point was worthless because of it. I'm also not seeing where the "Gaf is sensitive" stuff is coming from. People can't have opinions about not like hearing certain things when they are trying to enjoy something completely unrelated to any of those subjects? This thread is going around in circles now.

It's all a bit silly.

So before we go in further, is there an Aris Defense Force here?

This is unrelated to the e-sports question.

When Aris said "that guy is so gay" on stream i knew that this was going to go downhill really fast. I was right.

I am sorry, am still confused a bit here. Community/Tournament organizers avoided you because they thought you would give preferential treatment to IPW, but how does that translate to you not showing their content/streams?

What were people scared of exactly if they were avoiding you? Not having their content featured on IPW, or that IPW would be one to pick and choose who would be shown on IPW?

You're belittling your post by referring to Kayopolice using 'he'. She was born a man, but now identifies herself as a woman, so referring to her as a he or calling her a man is harassment too, or at least disrespectful.

Honest mistake. But really, are you going to call that harassment?

Huh, most people are positive towards Kayo I believe. LOL I think you are confusing STREAM MONSTERS random trolling and the actual people at the events and on scene. THERE IS NO EXCUSING the shit aris does though LOL that's just feeding the stream monsters

The fact that there are people who are defending Aris implies that this isn't just an isolated case.

Also, having someone like KayoPolice play on stage and having her be bombarded with "YO SHE HAS A DICK" "WATCH OUT FOR HER DICK" by people in the crowd isn't something that should be acceptable either. Stream monsters are stream monsters, but you have to realize that there are real people posting those comments behind the veil of anonymity, and that that comment had to have originated from some form of beliefs.

I stream monster all the time, but not once have I done any trolling just because that person was a chick/transsexual/different than me. Team Miranda's thighs and stuff like that doesn't really need to be there. This of course applies to the world in general because sexism exists in a lot of places, but I think moving forward away from that would be a net benefit.

A reasonable man chimes in.

Dude I want that title, it means you are like the ultimate and no one can compare the womenz love youLOL :P Just put a positive spin on things when people try to talk shit about you. Makes them turn full derp in seconds.

Let's make this shit happen. Now.

Stop trying to play like a saint dude.

There's a lot of people in the FGC that respect women. Are you serious?

Having females in Cross Assault alone shows that we don't alienate.
Valle respecting Sherry and treating her well while Aris harassed her and Miranda all day shows that NOT everyone in the FGC are like, gasp! Aris.
Oh, god, I don't even have to point out the holy white knights (like Justin Wong) which you're clearly trying to do now.

The day some pro-player just straight up ACTUALLY rapes a female player... for just being a female, then, maybe then, I'll agree with you.

Until then? Just shut up, man.
Yeah, we are immature bastards, who knows how to have "fun," but you're just making it seem like the FGC are ruthless, killin' and drillin', scums of the Earth. So sorry we don't play eSports games, bro.

We need the re rebirth

GunbladeZ Kai?

Say what? That's messed. :lol

He tried to call me a traitor and saying shit like, "KingofCocks and NeoFAGs." Some stupid shit.

Guess he couldn't get in. /shrug

You hate to see this type of thing happen

While I agree that most in the community are not sexist. Thats a really bad defense.

This is one of those monumental threads on GAF as it actually unfolds isn't it?

Like one notch below the Too Human developer blow up.

I think the Illuminati are setting up all this drama to distract us from the real problem at hand:

Why is no one fucking playing Jin? :(
