PAL Charts - Week 8, 2012

Would it be correct to interpret these two statements:

Ubisoft’s ‘Rayman Origins’ climbs 31 places to No5 (+197%), powered by a new Vita version, No4 on the Vita Top 20.

The next new entry at No11 is Sony’s Vita ‘Wipeout 2048’, actually No3 on the Vita Top 20.

To imply that the spread in absolute units between position 5 and 11 on the chart isn't particularly large?

Not necessarily, 5 could be nearly double 11

I'm glad Vita owners are taking a shine to Rayman. It is marvelous on Vita.

The Rayman figures include the PS3 and 360 as well, right?

Still, it's interesting to see that the Vita version seems to have caused a spike in the sales. Even though the game is heavily discounted on consoles, I'm still fairly ambivalent toward picking it up. On the other hand, the Vita version is pretty damn appealing, even though it's currently at full price.

Obviously you can't say much from an ordinal scale, but I would be really interested to see how the Vita, and 3DS, versions compare to the home consoles.

It seems that PS Vita had a decent launch, though without numbers we can't have a clear picture. Watching these weekly charts I have always felt that the UK market is extremely hostile towards portable console gaming.

The Last Story debuted 10th in the individual chart, ¿how is it doing comparing it with Xenoblade?

Without numbers there really is no way to say that, its obviously a very slow week for other formats with no big releases (unlike the 3ds which launched against crysis 2 and Lego star wars 3)

Probably low numbers overall (I read about 21K for Unchy), but generally speaking I'm glad to see Vita so "vital" :p for the UK launch!
And I'm happy also about TLS at number 10 of the individual charts!

:)

Woah! Ten - count them, TEN - Vita titles in the Top 40. Four in the Top 10 alone.

The Brits sure do love Sony. Not even the 3DS managed ANYTHING close to this kind of software "dominance" in it's opening weeks. And, notwithstanding the astronomical price of the hardware.

As has already been pointed out its a slow week

The neo geo pocket could probably have launched this week and got 10 games in the chart

21k is the lowest limit for uncharted its probably a little higher. 3DS launched in a week were there was some bigger release on home consoles so its softwares chart positions can;t really be compared.

Licorice-flavoured booze?
Perhaps, but in reality those sales numbers are very low across the entire chart.

low or not I'm still surprised to see psv software at the top of the chart, even with low numbers across the board I don't think we would of been surprised if psv titles didn't even break the top ten, I think things could of been a lot worse.

Also we don't have the download figures.

Even so, just three starring-Mario 3DS titles (two by Nintendo itself) compared to ten for Vita.

I'm sure even Sony will be just a little shocked but very pleasantly surprised at this outcome.

3ds had 10 games in the chart on its launch week too and that was a much busier week

Despite the fact that this is a 'quiet' week (aren't they all nowadays?), I agree. 10 titles in the top 40 is excellent and seemingly points to a much stronger start than the 3DS. I'm sure a few of those titles will disappear off the top 40 next week but, who knows? For now, I'm just impressed that they're there.

10? Are you sure? I seem to remember the running "When is 3DS launching in Europe" gag due to the poor performance on the charts.

Well, there was 10 3ds titles in the top 40:
http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index....p&ct=110032&arch=t&lyr=2011&year=2011&week=12

In lower position, but we know that both SSFIV, Pilotwings and Rayman had a debut over 15K (ReRevelation few weeks ago), so very similar (we don't know the exact numbers) to what we are seeing here for Unchy, Fifa and Wipeout.

Probably the lower position in the chart was due just to Crysis 2 (Ps360 and PC) and Lego Star wars debuts

There are 10 there.

Interesting, I must have missed the launch week and only been around for the 'dead' period (launch -> Mario) as I remember the 3DS barely even registering on the UK charts for weeks.

It will be interesting to watch as time goes on.

Wow fantastic to see Rayman so far up.

Glad to see Uncharted at the top, but i have to say i was expecting FIFA to be number 1.

Licorice-flavoured booze?

Things get quite scarce the following week though, I think after that they drop off the chart, people started to joke asking when the 3ds was being released in the UK for a while then like SmokeyDave remembers, next week will be very telling, if you want to play 3ds vs psv we're have to see how the chart looks over the next few weeks.

I'm not.

Uncharted and FIFA are the 2 most expensive games of the launch lineup and still sold more than any other game. I fear this will lead to publishers thinking that "we" don't mind paying 40 pounds for a Vita game.

However I'm glad to see that Vita didn't bombed like so many wished for. It's a fantastic piece of hardware with great software available at launch.

Virtually no consumer puts down 600 euros for a phone. They take a contract and pay a monthly amount, like 40 euro's or something.

Maybe not in the US but in Germany/Europe it's not totally uncommon. I bought my HTC Desire HD for 520€ in the releaseweek. But now with the Smartphone hype it's not clever to buy it early because the prices fall very fast.
Good to see the Vita love in the UK. But like some said, they should input DD sales somehow. Would be interesting to see the German Charts with Steam sales integrated.

actually the 3ds managed 7 games in the chart the week after, though yes the week after that they went missing for months

It naturally, like the Vita, opened pretty strong. Did anyone believe the hardcore wouldn't pickup a Vita? The question is, will it have legs?

I'm glad Rayman and Fifa are doing well.
I want a full companion version to the PS3 Fifa 13 on Vita and decent sales should help, especially considering that the price for Fifa Football is higher than for some most other games.

The gap between Syndicate 360 and PS3 position wise is huge. Guess Vita is to blame for that, money was spent in other places for people invested in Sony.

most games could be found cheaper than their official price. PLus one of the points of the vita is being able to replicate full console experiences, so i am glad that those games sold well. I haven't bought UGA yet but i do own FIFA and it is amazing to play an almost PS3 quality game anywhere. I want more of those games. I want fifa 13 , and more uncharted, and resident evil and the like.
